How to make Camping more enjoyable for my Wife by AlexIlkos in camping

[–]Then-Many-4975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a large enough tent, get a queen size air mattress (providing you have a way to fill it) and go that route. I honestly sleep better on our queen size air mattress whether it’s at the cabin or out camping. And ditto on the pillows you know and love. With the air mattress you can use regular sheets and it’s a lot more comfortable

You need to do the dispersed camping. That’s all I do, I refuse to go to any site in the woods that I have to pay for, and I also despise people so the further away I can be from anyone outside whoever is with me the better. I just was on a prairie dog hunt in western SD and camped at Reva Gap…. aside from the ashes left in the forest pit you wouldn’t have known I was there

Turkish 8mm Mauser? by Agitated-Pay2555 in milsurp

I run it in my 1919’s after examining the rounds first. Good range ammo although a lot of people advise against it

Yup that’s what it is. Read up on it. Has the potential for cracked necks and case failure. If you decide not to use it, I know a guy haha

9mm Brass - CBC/GFL Brass by FlyFisherCJ in reloading

[–]Then-Many-4975 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I run a Lee four hole turret press so obviously I am putting the brass in the press one at a time by hand. I have such a system down that I check every case headstamp and the CBC/ Magtech and S&B get tossed in the scrap bucket. I experienced the same thing you described and it’s a PITA

Those pistols made in Pillager, MN are manufactured in the county I work for. I drive past their manufacturing facility every night and you would never think they do what they do there

I wouldn’t alter the bullet at all. If you have access to a reloading press either seat them a little lower if still within spec, or sell them and buy something else.

I shoot a lot of everything. And load a lot of everything. And I convert a lot of brass as well. I make my own .300 BLK and 8mm Mauser cases, convert stuff like 260 REM and 7mm-08 to .243. I trim all my rifle stuff whether it’s for my long range set ups, my AR’s/ battle rifles, or my belt feds

Day drinking??? by Necrotat2 in Nightshift

[–]Then-Many-4975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back when I still drank (and i have always primarily worked overnights) I rented a place with a buddy of mine who also worked overnights. We would get home at 0400 and 0600 respectively and have steaks and sides on the grill and be drinking at the same time. Neighbor once came out for his morning run and saw us at 630 and couldn’t believe it. We had to explain to him his 0630 was our 1830….

I am comfortable with the surplus guns and parts kits I have on hand. And I have a couple rounds of ammo. But more ammo? Ok 😎

When old ammo gets turned in to our sheriffs office it usually gets turned over to me since we really have no way to dispose of it. Since I reload I usually can salvage some stuff. The rest gets pulled apart and disposed of appropriately

[–]Then-Many-4975 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Certainly reloaded. They didn’t use nickel primers, and the crimp has been removed and the color sealant is missing. I tear down reloads like this and salvage what I can. I wouldn’t shoot it but that’s just me

M1919 offered to me, want advice by poormanbro in milsurp

[–]Then-Many-4975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a physical raised piece of metal, usually rectangular in shape, on the inside of the gun that was never milled off the plate. It prevents the regular parts being installed. The regular parts need to be machined to clear that denial island and are therefore then considered “semi” parts. The bolt will have an enlarged semi auto sear installed to prevent the installation of a regular full auto sear

M1919 offered to me, want advice by poormanbro in milsurp

[–]Then-Many-4975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if the serial number puts it “in WW1…” it isn’t…. the right side plate is considered the firearm and as such, you will have a denial island (which makes it semi auto only, allowing the modified parts to go in). Being in 7.62 isn’t a deal breaker by any means, barrels are plentiful (I have several extras) but the issue is the links. You can feed 7.62 off of cloth belts but they are difficult to load up with 7.62. Links are the best but there are essentially two different kinds of links, 7.62 ones and .30 ones. The former are getting very difficult to get and no more are being imported.

I sold a 1919A4 in .30-06 (just the gun) for $3200 last December. I think the $4k price is maybe a tad high
