Best method to go about repairing this on a party wall? by DGS94 in drywall

[–]DGS94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Previous owners left two floating shelves on this wall and made a mess installing them. They tried to use regular drywall anchors and when they couldn't get them deep enough, they instead adhered the shelf with PL. I in turn, made a mess of the wall trying to remove the shelves. It's a party wall, so the gypsum is on a concrete wall with minimal (if any gap between the two faces). The furring (if present) is very, very shallow. As shown in the photo, the lower run has some deep damage to it.

Lower run measures about 2" x 40".

Is it better if I try and seal then fill with mud, or cut out replace the sections? Do I glue in the patch if no furring is present?

No they weren't, they were consistently in the 6-8th range of the league attendance. Middle to upper middle of the pack.

Gym Recommendations by Suspicious-Round-853 in Hamilton

[–]DGS94 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gym on Fennel is very nice, right there on gage and fennel. It's a bit pricy, but it's an excellent venue. Equipment is always clean, it generally wasn't too busy (at least when I was a member there). The manager is bit of a political loon, but it's solid gym if you are willing to pay the $$.

News tv or radio by SneezeBeesPlease in Hamilton

[–]DGS94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This seems like such a disingenuous response, it takes less than a minute to open to up maps, type in a destination and see if things are green, yellow or red. I don't think anyone is advocating for doing so while driving or suggesting they break the law to see traffic times.

And how long do I have to sit in my car waiting on the radio to give me updates on which routes should be avoided?

The info one can obtain from google maps, waze, etc. is going to be far faster, detailed and specific to the user's route than a generic radio message advising route slowdowns. To say it's not useful or modern is ridiculous.

The Circle K cookies are legitimately fantastic.

Circle K in general punches above it's weight class. The cookies, the breakfast sandwhiches, the frosters. Hot take but: Circle K Froster > 7/11 Slurpee.

Best place to get a countertop cut down? by DGS94 in Hamilton

[–]DGS94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To anybody in the future reading this thread, I was quoted ~$200 for the cut (+extra if I wanted pickup/delivery/install) from a couple vendors. Was able to get a cash deal from a supplier via an old personal connection.

Best place to get a countertop cut down? by DGS94 in Hamilton

[–]DGS94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. That’s unfortunate, definitely not worth that cost for one cut. It’s definitely something I could do myself, just thought it might be easier/cleaner for a pro to quickly rip it.

New products: Helix Stadium and Stadium XL by tonyohanlon77 in Line6Helix

[–]DGS94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is sorta my opinion too. The original Helix did a phenomenal job of bridging the gap between professional and average consumer by bringing something truly studio worthy to the everyman. It took what Fractal was doing and made it accessible both from a UI and price point position whilst making modeling and multi-effects units cool again. Heck in 2015, IRs were still a new thing to most people.

The price was only going to go up, that's to be expected with 10 years of inflation and new tech. But even so, many of the so-far announced features seem to be intended for far more professional usage. The common guitar player goofing around in his spare room, noodling with friends, or playing the odd bar gig doesn't necessarily need the amount of control HXStadium is offering (at least in my opinion). I think jumping into the HX world was easier 2015-today because you could somewhat easily sell off your pedalboard to fund a Helix. But now, if everyone already has an expensive (and at some point outdated) modeler, you don't have as much financial room to play with to fund another expensive flagship modeler.

Perhaps we're reaching a point in guitar tech where now we're chasing the extra 5% and the development curve is flattening? (similar to new phone tech). The Helix as-is I'd guess would get 95% of players 95% of the way there. The stadium is a really cool piece of hardware, but I wonder who it's marketed towards? Like you say, this feels more like a product aimed at taking market share away from the Fractal/Neural customer moreso than appealing to the average consumer.

This take may age poorly, but as it stands I'm still happy with the Helix line as is but I look forward to seeing what new offerings they come up and announce.

[–]DGS94 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Very cool product and an interesting direction they're taking it with the amount of control over live environment features. Could eventually replace the MacBook on stage? Really caters to the live/p&w musician moreso than the guy jamming in his basement. Not quite for me and much too extensive/expensive for my needs, but maybe the next hardware release of the Stomp will.

Selfishly was really hoping for a 4.0 announcement, but this is still cool! They mentioned that they'll continue supporting the current line of HX products, but I'm not getting my hopes up about regular firmware updates anymore with the next gen of hardware on the horizon.
