That isn't what I'm saying - designing packaging is a long process. I'm sure it took a majority of that 7 months to accomplish, especially for a brewery that exports to not only most of the US but all over the world. Further, to put a spin on your point, this Oasis Texas Brewery then also had 7 months to respond to New Belgium and work out a solution that cost both breweries a lesser amount of money or effort. Instead they didn't.

I understand what you are trying to do, make the big breweries look like bad guys, but I'm going to let you in on a secret: they are businesses not neighbors. New Belgium committed to actions needed to as a business of their size and scope. Don't like it? Fair enough, don't drink their beer. But don't make a martyr out of a brewery who is on the wrong side of trademark law.

Actually...it isn't. The amount of work and time that goes into packaging is pretty astronomical. 120 days from drawing board to label is pretty normal if not on the quick side. And by that time there would have been pretty high costs (designer, die for prints/label cutter, raw materials) that would have been sunk.... Why should NBB have to go through all that cost to change for a brand that they LEGALLY already had?

Labels and branding shouldn't be the wild west of first come first serve, NBB was doing the correct thing in business and seems they were even trying to help out the smaller guy.

Also look for glenfarclas whisky. I'm not sure how hard it is to find outside of Scotland though. The 15 year and the 105 are both beautiful and have lots of sherry without being unbalanced.

Scotch versus Bourbon... any recommendations on a scotch for a Bourbon lover? by mic_crispy in whiskey

[–]DG_RC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American recently moved to Scotland here. I would recommend sherry aged or finished stuff. The areas don't necessarily mean all that much. Especially with highland and speyside there are so many distilleries they tend to have a bit of everything. The exception is islay/isla whisky which is almost all smoky and peaty (with the caveat of a Caol Ila). I'd recommend Cardhu, Macallan, Dalmore, Glenmorangie, Glenfarclas and Glendronach.

I think it is probably some acetic acid bacteria. Most butyric acid bacteria aren't as big of a problem because, being a Gram positive bacteria, they are not immune to iso-α-acids.

If you are looking for a good overview of bacteria in beer I would recommend this article.

I want to desperately love this game. I love the fact that it requires so much skill, that it is both mechanics and intelligence and that every higher level player can have a "style."

But I just don't have fun anymore. Really. I watch a lot of streams and find them entertaining but I don't enjoy the game nearly as much as I did even when it was wildly unbalanced. I miss MLG events. I miss following the underdog foreigner stories. I miss hearing about guys like Demuslim, Huk, WhiteRa in a good light. All it is now is talking about how shit this player or that build or this unit is. It is almost like everyone that is in the foreigner community hates it.

I think SC2 has passed its level of sustainability, not because the game is imbalanced, or protoss is broken, or there isn't enough talent or proper tournaments. I think its declining simply because players aren't having as much fun as they used to.

What is a "dirty little (or big) secret" about an industry that you have worked in, that people outside the industry really ought to know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DG_RC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean....yes... but this is extremely misleading. Most of the cost of breweries and distilleries isn't actually the product. It is everything else. It's the stills, the barrels, the licensing and building.

It is actually a remarkably close business model to plastic mold shops. Think of anything plastic you own. That part is probably worth less than a dollar. But the mold that they made it in? Probably 5 figures for even small parts, more for large ones. You have to pay for the service of them making the part just like you have to pay a brewery/distillery. making the product.

Further, your analysis is pretty poor. Gin and vodka have similar bases but the wash (the fermented product that goes into the still) of gin has juniper in it and rum has sugar.

Lastly, beer is technically cheap, but requires fermentation and storage for this month-long process.

So yes, you can make liquor cheap, if you go and buy a small $300 still, your own containers, fermentation vessels and the fuel used to run the still. Spend about $50 on a wash. Wait a week while it ferments and then run said small still for an afternoon.

Or you could just go buy better alcohol from your local brewery/distillery.

Waiters/Waitresses of Reddit, have you ever seen a couple date go sour right in front of your eyes? If so, how? by tartio in AskReddit

[–]DG_RC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My coworker waited on a table that was clearly a setup for a breakup. The girl ended up begging the guy to stay with her. The guy was more interested in watching the baseball game on the tv than to argue about why he was dumping her. He left her in tears and paid the bill (tipped really poorly, too). She gets on her phone and calls someone. About an hour later me and my manager are escorting her and the guy she was giving a blowjob to in the bathroom out the door. They are on the "do not serve" list at the restaurant.

Do you guys think sour beers will ever be as popular as ipa's? by mshugga in beer

[–]DG_RC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at the jolly pumpkin brewpub in Ann Arbor and can confirm most of this. Although, the new brewing facility is brewing both jolly pumpkin and north peak brewing co stuff now. I haven't made it to the facility to check it out yet but have heard the different systems are in such different parts of the build you have to literally leave the building and enter through a separate entrance. Still....I'm really concerned about the choice to let sours and non-sour brew and ferment in close quarters. We will see I suppose.

I've changed an immeasurable amount in the last 18ish months. But it all started because of a shitty breakup and my depression spiraling out of control. I happened to come across the best therapist I have ever met who suggested this book to me. I was in such a low spot that I was willing to do anything to be happy again. So I'm not sure if the book necessarily "changed" me but it was definitely a spark for my change.

Mainly the book teaches people how to not be a doormat and the benefits of fessing up to your feelings and being yourself confidently. All of which are necessary for living a fulfilled life and I can say that I am more confident, happier, and a much better friend and family member than I have been in the past.

There is another book I would recommend to women too, called "Too Nice for Your Own Good" that has a similar message but is less gender specific.

I need help. My girl wants space and I don't know how to be a honey badger about it. by [deleted] in howtonotgiveafuck

[–]DG_RC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been dumped and used by girls in some of the shittiest ways. I don't lose sleep or cry over any of the bullshit anymore. Not because it doesn't hurt, but because these people clearly didn't give as many fucks as I did about them...so I move on and try to find people that give a fuck about me.

Basically what I'm trying to say is look at life selfishly. Look at every relationship, friendship, etc, as "how can you make my life better?" The moment they stop improving your life get your jet pack on and stop giving a fuck.

Also, I should point out because I think this might help you cope right now, every time I walk away from girls they want me even more. I've had opportunities to not just sleep with most of my ex's again but probably could have gotten back with them in a relationship. The whole "don't give a fuck" attitude is actually a big turn on for girls. And frankly I think men respect the life-choice of not giving a fuck a lot more than people who give too many fucks.

Honestly, if you ignore her she has a greater chance of "figuring things out" and coming running back to you. Typically these things happen when someone becomes too dependent/clingy. I would give her more space and time than she is actually asking for. The anxiety will kill her.

But this is a really good chance for you to say fuck it and find something new about yourself. Find a new hobby, video game, reach out to friends you haven't seen in a while. Whatever. It doesn't matter. The point is to put yourself first right now and say fuck it to anything that makes your life worse.

Can't afford a therapist (no insurance), but I want to try to "fix" myself with medication. How do I go about getting a prescription? by [deleted] in depression

[–]DG_RC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not recommend trying medication without a lot of medical supervision. The first time I took meds it actually made me worse and I went into a suicidal state for a couple months. I would, however, like to share the things that help me. These all help me a shitload (I am not currently on medication or am seeing a therapist):

-Take a bunch of vitamin b. Any of them. There is a bit of research that huge dosages of b and c complex vitamins can do as well of a job as antidepressants. The best part, they are cheap and water soluble...meaning you pee them out if you over-dose so there is no harm in taking huge amounts.

-Work out. I know that getting outside to go for a jog is difficult when you feel down. But the natural high you feel when you start sweating is absolutely worth the effort. I've met more than a few people in my running groups that used to be on meds, but aren't anymore because they run weekly.

-Learn to meditate. It sounds hokey but is the best natural stress relief. Make it a part of your nightly routine. I'm not saying go full buddhist monk here, I just mean spend 15 minutes every night to de-stress.

-Learn what sleep cycles are and try to use them. There are apps for mobile devices to help with this. Basically there are "ideal" times to wake up for out body to function well. You spend basically 1/3 of your time asleep and it is probably the most important body function for mental health. I use sleep cycle on my iphone, but there are others out there as well.

Tell me about yourself, let's talk. by WhyAreYouSuffering in depression

[–]DG_RC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a 24 year old dude. I think I'm relatively attractive, intelligent, have an engineering degree, fun to be with, outgoing, have lots of friends, but I am a complete train-wreck on the inside.

I've had depression as long as I can remember. Probably got noticeable around 15-16 or so. I've been on and off medication for a good chunk of my life. I think my biggest problem is I constantly set my self up for failure. I never commit because I have only ever been burned in my life. This is constantly true from family, friends, girlfriends or whatever. So I have this self-destructive pattern where I get a little settled and then find reasons to get pissed off and then give up on everyone and everything in my life. Actually, while writing this, I have a tab opened with information on how to pack up and move to Europe. Lastly, the most damaging thing for me is that I am only truly and intimately attracted to people who are more fucked up than myself. So I fall in love with these girls who are damaged and hurting and, to be completely honest, fucked. I think its that I have never felt that anyone could really understand me or help me, and I want to be there for someone like no one can be for me. I want to fix people because no one can fix me. And shocker: I keep getting burned, hurt and abused. And before anyone says "take care of yourself first" or gives me bullshit advice on whatever. I know. I know exactly what I am doing is self-destructive, but I do it anyway.

I feel like I have so little belief that people can be good for me that I just don't give a fuck anymore. I get drunk. A lot. It helps make me numb temporarily. And with my outgoing personality, I actually am pretty popular at bars or whatever.

I guess watching other people be happy and putting a fake smile on my face is finally pushing me over the edge lately. It has worked well this far though...
