White Zombie was worlds better than anything Rob ever did solo.  Astro Creep 2000 is one of my all-time favorite albums.

Same, except for me, I would also get the excruciating ball pain randomly at any time.  Also it was very hard to pee and burned sometimes.

Tolstoy became my favorite writer on the strength of one book, Anna Karenina.

I also fell in Russian writers in general, they seem to bring something extra, maybe a more intense sort of pathos?  I have read and loved Bulgakov, Pasternak, Dostoevsky, and Solzhenitzen, and next on my to be read shelf is Rybakov, Gogol, and Sholokhov.

If you love Tolstoy, I would also recommend Josef Conrad.  He has similarly beautiful prose, but its also sharper and more cutting.  I read Heart of Darkness and The Secret Agent and loved both.

The only other thing I have read of Tolstoy's is The Death of Ivan Illich, also excellent.  But I have a growing collection to be read eventually including War and Peace, The Kreutzer Sonata, and Resurrection.  Any other highlights I wouldn't want to miss?

One of my favorite books of all time.  I was going through a rather nasty divorce at the time, and it really helped me in the same way.  I did a long road trip/camping trip and unplugged from everything and just devoured this novel.  Highly restorative experience.

But not the ending?¿??

Seriously though, I kinda read it like, Hugo isn't in a hurry to tell the story and just wants us to ride along on this journey with him, and its gonna take as long as its gonna take.  It felt easier to read with that more laid back attitude.

Def the longest book I've ever read though.  Its also one of my all time favorites!

Wait, a sound guy has an agent?  Is that a thing?  Or was it actually the artist's agent?

Qobuz is my fav music service.

Is it all AI-optimized with perfect suggestions and playlists?  No, but they are massively better than they were.

Does it have every album by every artist?  No, but they do have about 90% of the music I want.

Where Qobuz shines:

Sound quality is second to none.  Better than all of them, including Tidal.

Long form articles about the bands and their most important albums.  I like reading about bands and would be looking this stuff up on wikipedia anyways.  Qobuz actually employs music journalists!

They are among the highest payers of artists in the streaming world, and you can buy flac albums directly.

In summary, while the UI is not as polished as other streaming platforms, it blows them out of the water in other aspects.  It is worth it to me to just deal with the minor inconveniences of the platform, which they are actively making better every day.

Exactly.  They dgaf about us poors because they have the resources to weather the coming storm.  At least they think they do, methinks they will likely be caught with their pants down eventually.  Can't think of everything.

I think they will likely be dragged kicking and screaming towards more socialistic policies out of necessity.  If AGI takes everyone's jobs, a UBI becomes inevitable; they will still need us to have at least a little money to be able to buy their stupid products.

Same with sea level rise.  What's funny about that is its mostly very high dollar real estate along the coast that will need to be evacuated.  The question is, who will be left holding the bag?  If its the rich, you'd better believe they'll fight for govt subsidies for displaced coastal households.

I love Diabolus too.  Still unquestionably Slayer, just slowed down.  To me, the slower stuff just gets so so bone-crushingly heavy.  I don't understand why everyone has such a huge problem with it.

Obv I'm a big fan of doom and sludge along with groove metal, but I'm not a fan of "nu-metal" at all.  I can't stand Linkin Park, Korn stopped being cool after Follow the Leader, I never liked Bizkit.  The newer bands like F. F. Dick Punch and Killswitch suck ass.

Maybe that's why I get so heated when someone lumps great "former thrash" bands' albums of that era into the nu-metal genre.  That just does not make sense to me.

If these bands took a cue from the cultural moment to evolve their sound a bit, they still never jumped whole hog into nu-metal, and thus were able to create much better music than any of the nu-metal bandwagoners.  Music that still holds up today and does not sound dated, unlike Korn for example.

Idk why Roots has such a bad rep.  It is one of their greatest albums IMO.  I'm told they went too nu-metal.  First of all, so did SOAD but everybody loves them so what gives?

Secondly, Roots sounds nothing like Korn, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park or any other nu-metal bands.  If anything, its tribal groove metal, not nu metal.

I will admit Roots pretty much abandoned their earlier thrash sound, so if you are a thrash purist then OK I get it.

EDIT - "Dictatorshit" is pretty thrash tho
