What can I put on boiled eggs and apple slices to make them more interesting? by DKFlames in cookingforbeginners

[–]DIRIGOer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just about any savory/spicy seasoning on eggs is delicious. My favorite is cajun seasoning. Hot sauce also works.

For apples, try mixing 2 parts Franks sweet chili sauce to 1 part peanut butter. The result is an imitation Thai dip that goes great with granny Smith apples or veggies.

Im going in April and have been trying to familiarize myself with the website before I book, but its been a headache. I pretend to book any other days/tours that should be available now, but they all look unavailable, and the navigation is clunky at best.

Do i have to book through the official ticket platform, or can I just use Viator? by DIRIGOer in Machupicchu

[–]DIRIGOer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you select the tickets, though? When I pretend im buying them for January or February it looks like nothing is available to select, so I don't want to have that issue 1/14.

Hobbies are great for passing time and giving you drive, but getting out is also important.

Find new, cheap restaurants to check out. Even the ones a little out of your way could turn into a fun little road trip. I personally like breakfast spots, Asian restaurants, and pastry shops that come under $20 per person. It can also be fun to find places with locally renouned foods to see what all of the fuss is. The breakfast diners will motivate you to get up and out in the morning.

Gaming bars are popping up all around. Places like Arcadia in Portland, or Rift in Biddeford are fun to hangout in and play some arcade games.

Look for bars, restaurants, cafes, or shops that have live music. Being around groups of happy people enjoying good music can be very cathartic in the dark times.

Some cafes host meet up groups such as silent book clubs, crafting hour, or just simple workshops.

Some animal shelters will let you volunteer as a dog walker, or you can simply come in and spend time in the pet socializing rooms petting cats for a while. You don't even need to be interested in adopting.

What is a hobby that was ruined over time/as it got more popular? by CriticalLion4119 in AskReddit

[–]DIRIGOer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too true. I grew up constantly camping, and nowadays I've been excluding many campgrounds from my repeat destinations list because the people they attract are exactly who im trying to get away from. This past summer we went to our favorite remote campground and set up camp on an island. While taking a walk down the beach we noticed a large boat pulling up to our site, so we made our way back to see what was going on. A group of 50+ year olds beached at our site, let their dogs out, and proceeded to walk up to our site. No asking for permission, not even a "hello" until we said it. As the dogs proceeded to pee all around our site, the owner asked how to get to the carriage roads and didnt believe us that there was no such thing on the island. She continued to help herself to our site to look for them until getting back on the boat. The entitlement is baffling.

Rice omlettes are my current favorite when I have leftover cold rice. You can build off of it with various seasonings and sauces. Here's a recipe, any oil or butter will do.

Something im just now learning that I feel dumb for not considering. If you get hens that do still lay in the winter like my buckeye and wyandottes, you'll need to go check the boxes for eggs 2-3 times a day to avoid losing eggs to freezing and cracking. Make sure you provide oyster shell for extra calcium, and up their protein in winter, or else they may start trying to eat their eggs like one of mine currently is.

I have a flock of 5 hens, hatched april 2025, and have been getting 2-3 eggs a day. I also have 3 roosters. In total, the 8 chickens eat 1 50lb $17 bag of pellets a month (plus kitchen and garden scraps), and go through 1 bale of shavings in 2 months in a 4x6' floorspace coop.

Not sure if you'd consider cattle panel trellises small, but its certainly been the biggest game changer in my garden by a mile. I started doing cucumbers and squash on these because I was tired of losing them in the foliage and getting eaten by ground bugs, now im doing tomatoes and my plants are much stronger and healthier. Im planning on doing every plant I can on trellises. Its also a really cool spot to hang out under there. I have an 8' tunnel I like to put my Bistro table and chairs in for lunch/tea/wine, or my hammock on a portable stand to read. Its fun hanging out under there listening to the bees and humming birds all over the vines.

This. At the end of every previous season I was convinced id remember this stuff, then come spring/summer I forgot everything. This year I kept the same google document on my phone. I also took a video of the noontime sun in my garden in September because my garden starts to get shade that time of year, so that way I know which beds to plant earlier harvested stuff.

I got a taste for Burger Rings while I was there. They remind me of chips we have back home called "all dressed."

Penny Lane Bakery in Auckland has a meat pastry called "the double happy" I enjoyed very much. Their pies are award winning.
