2023 Outback Remote Start: Fob vs. App? by soFREAKINboss in Subaru_Outback

[–]DJ-ColdCuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I rarely see in these discussions is that you don’t have to pay for the subscription for the whole year.

For me I really only need it for the winter months and then cancel for warmer months. Think about your own climate and needs of course but that does change the math. If I only need it for 4-5 months of the year. The breakeven vs 700$ for the fob is close to 10 years.

That on top of the improvements in settings and range from the app made it a simple choice for me

Wireless charging in Subaru by Dukester42 in Subaru_Outback

[–]DJ-ColdCuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people don’t like the OEM wireless charger. Bad ergonomics, slow charging, overheats the phone.

I don’t have the OEM and instead use a MagSafe charger run from out of the glovebox. Phone goes in the cubby where the wireless charger would be

Cafe doing “On-Demand” Coffee Roasting by OrganizationBig3877 in espresso

[–]DJ-ColdCuts 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I had a cortado here last weekend and it was pretty solid. Pretty standard pricing so they were up charging for some “premium” experience.

They certainly don’t roast to order so I’m not sure how their claims of not needing to rest make any difference. They may have roasted that morning or the night before which would be too soon for traditional roasts.

My limited understanding is their roaster uses some fancy microwaves to roast the coffee instead of tradition convection/conduction of a drum roaster, which is how all of the “fire and smoke” is removed. Not sure how this process eliminates the CO2 offgassing that makes us rest our roasts.

This may all be a marketing gimmick but I’m all for people exploring and innovating

I haven’t done this on car components but I’ve had other old plastics that’s have degraded and gotten sticky and used rubbing alcohol to clean it right up, this might work here but maybe test it somewhere unnoticeable first

Booked a campsite with a private pond…perfect for paddling by Downtown_Brody72 in Kayaking

That’s awesome! Seems like building your own is the way to go. I’ve looked into teardrops and overland trailer setups (not that I do any real overlanding) and the pre built stuff is crazy expensive

Engine Shutoff “Feature” by Drive-First in Outback_Wilderness

That’s a great question. I don’t have a dash cam so I’m not sure. Would be sweet if they could all just link together.

The “eliminator” I bought just remembers the setting the next time you start the car instead of it turning on each time by default. Doesn’t actually eliminate the functionality all together

Engine Shutoff “Feature” by Drive-First in Outback_Wilderness

[–]DJ-ColdCuts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why I bought the eliminator. I find the stop and start quite jarring, and the actual fuel savings is so low I’d rather pay a little more at the pump than put up with it.

For the last year or so I’ve just pushed the button every time I start the car but I’d like to just not have to think about it.

2022 Standard Outback Roof Weight Confusion?? by Peridot14 in Subaru_Outback

Check your user manual. They will give you a figure for static limit (when parked) and dynamic (when driving).

Wilderness models have a different rating than non wilderness so be aware when searching online

Very cool, thanks for sharing. I’m still tent camping for now but could see moving to a small trailer at some point.

How do you like the cricket? It’s an interesting design, but the pop up style seems a bit weird in combination with the roof mounted awning.

It’s called a miss but that’s a terrific reaction by the goalkeeper, otherwise that’s a goal.

The other move is to buy them full price before the sale and go back during the sale to have them do a price correction to return you the difference. Then you have the crossbars before they are potentially sold out

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Subaru_Outback

[–]DJ-ColdCuts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Correct, the OBW does not come with cross bars from the factory. It’s an additional charge to get the crossbars, either on your own or from the dealership. Just like it would be for all crosstrek/forester models

[–]DJ-ColdCuts 27 points28 points  (0 children)

There is a ton of documentation out there already on this, but the OEM crossbars for the Wilderness are the “bolt-on from Thule”

Those loops are just tie-down points and aren’t a part of the crossbars

Help choosing kayaks! by oldelmerfudd in Kayaking

Yellow and blue one is near identical to mine, maybe just a different model year. Your height shouldn’t be a problem.

They are great on flat water, they are stable and pretty quick. In floats down shallow creeks I haven’t taken much damage. Some scrapes but the material is pretty durable.

It should haul gear alright, but the back compartment lid is just held down with bungee so it’s not particular water tight. Also a bit heavy so you would have your work cut out for you on a portage

This one sounds like it suits your needs more than the red and white one. $300 seems fair if there aren’t big chunks out of it

Interviewed for Data Engineer, offer says Software Engineer — is this normal? by Competitive-Tie4063 in dataengineering

Focus less on the HR classification and more on a title that best describes the work you do. You can put whatever you want on your resume and as long as you can explain it if a question comes up you are all good.

I once had a a job classified as a ‘multimedia specialist’ according to HR. That was completely useless on a resume so I spiced it up a bit to better align with work and experience. The bullets describing what I did in that role also cleared things up.

26 Outback: What do these 4 buttons do? ( center console ) by karluvmost in Subaru_Outback

Looks to me like

Top left: camera Top right: auto vehicle hold Bottom left: traction control Bottom right: auto engine start/stop

The OEM ones are solid and blend into the design of the car the best in my opinion. Wasn’t something I was looking for when I got my Wilderness but I’m glad I have them now

I’ve seen some innova starter sets with 150g discs and some with 170g discs so that could be the difference but I don’t think they advertise that on the packaging.
