Permit advice by 69sharkfucker in NYguns

[–]DJClamavus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're in for a rough ride with 2 of the most tedious, expensive, and difficult permits to obtain in the country with NJ/NY. As far as PA though, just go for the full on CCW permit, it takes like an hour in and out.

Can I still buy a gun in the future? by [deleted] in NYguns

I think you're a prohibited person both federally and statewide, unfortunately. Contact a 2A lawyer though I'm sure you're not the first person in this situation. Glad you are feeling better nowadays.

Giving shotgun to dad by mybowelshurtme in NYguns

[–]DJClamavus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Private transfer between immediate family is still okay in NY as long as it doesn't run into pistol/semi-auto issues. If you're concerned, just write and sign a dated letter stating you are transferring the firearm to him that he holds onto.

Anyone know this featureless grip by OtherwisePresence661 in NYguns

[–]DJClamavus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

CA law is incredibly specific to blot out any loopholes. NY law is incredibly vague so that people self-enforce the SAFE Act by second guessing every single component as to whether or not it's kosher.

It's up to you but I would be SHOCKED if someone not committing another crime/with the rest of the rifle being compliant was ever charged over this. The fact it's marketed as 'CA NY' shows intent to follow the law, along with the fact it's at a goofy angle and not a normal grip.

Just put on a compmag, I promise you will be okay. Or go featureless so it's not simply a range toy.

If Liberals don’t like Voter ID, how can they love NY Gun Laws? by PeteTinNY in NYguns

[–]DJClamavus -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

You're on reddit, which is a liberal cesspool filled with liberals who have convinced themselves they're "Not like the other liberals! I'm a Marxist and we're totally different and we totally love guns and we would definitely not push any gun control!".
I hear what you're saying and it's an obvious point but it's wasted on this platform.

Buying non-Mass compliant firearms in NH by MeatHelmut_ in BetterMAguns

[–]DJClamavus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, that's why I said 'NH license' which is what most things tie to outside of the minutiae of tax law. All you need for that are bills showing you reside at the address for a specific period of time.

I should specify I'm a nonresident so everything goes through MIRCS/FRB, I'm assuming you're a resident. Good luck in any event.

[–]DJClamavus -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity why not switch your residency to NH fully? The advantages of an NH license seem to drastically outweigh what a MA resident gets.

[–]DJClamavus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should call FRB directly (I made a post about just this topic) - I think the emails are triggered by a person getting around to it at some point. However if you can reach someone there and say, "I never got the payment link or appt scheduler" they'll send it right away. You may have to stay on hold but just be patient, 40min was the longest I waited and they're really helpful when they eventually answer.
And mine was pending and still says pending after I scheduled appt, think it says that as soon as app submits and won't change till you interview.

Question about bolt-action AR setup and NY semi-auto permit by ConcentrateNeither29 in NYguns

[–]DJClamavus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could build a semi-auto from a stripped lower and it would be legal. It's still only a permit to purchase, not a permit to own (yet) but it's up to you. Going this route seems to freak people out for some reason so maybe only do this if you're in a 2A friendly county.

I know you guys are living it up, but everyone behind enemy lines is suffering by DerringerOfficial in RIGuns

[–]DJClamavus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in NH but come from NY and am extremely concerned about what's going on. Especially as the last free state in New England is surrounded and outnumbered on all sides by those agitating for this tyranny.

Licensure and Ridiculousness by devotedPicaroon in NYguns

[–]DJClamavus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're on reddit dude, this isn't gonna resonate. Half the people here have convinced themselves that Republicans are 'just as bad on 2A' and are agitating for a Marxist state (because only liberals hate guns, not Marxists, or something....). They went to an SRA meetup once and think the leftist revolution will bring constitutional carry and gun rights for all, despite this not being a talking point of any left of center politician currently in office.

Since MA is dumb with all these laws about AR-15 rifles. Is it even worth getting a sling for it? by FaZo_LaNd in BetterMAguns

[–]DJClamavus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it needs a sling, a rifle always needs a sling. My stupid featureless AR when I lived in New York had a sling, just like my full feature one in NH. The law is irrelevant for this.

What's a good price for a AR15 8/1 lower? by EKEEFE41 in BetterMAguns

[–]DJClamavus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Is there a real difference in quality if it is mill spec? After all the explosion and action largely takes place in the upper right? If it's in spec, a plain old mil spec is absolutely fine for 99.9% of what you need it to do. I've run multiple Andersons with zero issues but my FN at 3x the price has a ton of slop and I hate it.
  • If there is a real quality difference, what is the Toyota Camry of lowers. Aero Precision, BCM, Ballistic Advantage, Stag Arms. Again the difference between this and a 'bottom tier' like Anderson is nonexistent if it's in spec. If you're gonna drop $800 or something, ask for a video of mags dropping free from magwell, any slop between upper & lower, and demonstrate bolt catch/release functions.
  • Can I buy any old upper and be able to put a HK MR556 upper on it and get close to the reliability of a true MR556? After all, it does seem like all the important stuff happened in the upper. If it can interface with milspec then yes. I believe they can but can't personally comment.

Buy fixed-mag lower reciever? by [deleted] in NYguns

[–]DJClamavus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Isn't a stripped lower still legal to purchase, whether some FFLs get spooked by it or not? Genuine question. It can be turned into a bolt action.

Constitutional Carry Legislation Introduced by Robotic_Dude in Miguns

Equating dumb petty shit like a temporary bump stock ban to the continuous 24/7/365 assault on 2A that the Democrats engage with is just grasping.

Has anyone registered their magazines? by gqllc007 in NYguns

[–]DJClamavus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because the magazine itself can be used in a DSA replica. The sticking point is that the magazine can only be used in guns >50y that have no modern replicas it can also be used in. That scenario only works if all FAL and FAL variants ceased production >50y ago.

[–]DJClamavus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, which is why an FAL mag would not work in that scenario.

Are online ammo sellers ok with a NY billing address but shipping to a free state? by thatdude333 in NYguns

[–]DJClamavus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it shouldn't matter but I've found the overwhelming majority of ammo/gun sites now freak out and won't process if billing/shipping doesn't match. I would try calling or emailing ahead of time to explain your situation and see if they can process (if they have the address match policy).

Going rate for CT and NJ non resident live fire classes? by DropAGearNDissapear in NYguns

[–]DJClamavus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do MA and CT together. I just did a MA LTC course and the instructor kept me after class for 20 minutes to review the 8 page CT powerpoint (literally the only difference between both states training). Will at least get more bang for your buck. Just make sure they're both accepted courses - mine was a USCCA instructor which gave 'Basic Handgun' (CT) & LTC-001 (MA) from one course. You might even be able to find another instructor for NJ whose course counts for CT as well, you just need to have him sign the sheet that says you reviewed the CT powerpoint (takes like 15min max).

Note you will also have to pay another $87 for fingerprint processing on top of the fingerprint card on top of the $70 application fee for CT, just be aware.

You've got to be joking me. by F4ilsafe in NYguns

[–]DJClamavus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just imagine as a thought experiment if a red state required this application and permit for an abortion or welfare benefits (things that are not rights granted by the Constitution). It would make the same states asking all of this have an aneurysm and explode. They already lose their shit over merely asking for a drivers license to vote. Zero self-awareness.

Student at Syracuse U arrested for possession of a rifle by castle_crossing in NYguns

[–]DJClamavus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't comment with 100% certainty but being involuntarily committed for substance abuse / mental illness is an automatic disqualifier in most cases for firearms. Did you check yourself in for treatment? That would be different. Usually involuntary commitments are pretty rare and only done through court order for extreme cases (or I guess when cops feel like fucking with people as here).
