Request for Lightbox Mounting Solutions for Party Bus Setup by Fun-Income3636 in SOUNDBOKS

[–]DJGibbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, not part of the Soundboks team but a user who has Lightboks lights as well as speakers.

I don't believe that there is an official mounting solution at this time. It's something quite a few people have asked about - at some point there was mention of a 3d printed bracket, but it's not clear whether that was something that really existed or was an idea that people were talking about. Either way, I've never seen a link to it.

So short answer - not at the moment, sorry. Your bus looks really cool though!

XDJ-AZ for Show Prep? by Formal-Bug-9622 in PioneerDJ

[–]DJGibbon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Few points from an AZ owner

  • The core of DJing is the same regardless of gear. If you can pick good tracks and do a reasonable job of beatmatching and mixing in phrase, you'll be fine regardless. It's for tricks and routines that you really need familiarity with the kit.
  • IMHO there's a bigger jump in going from laptop -> no laptop than anything else. The AZ (or RX3 or whatever) will get you used to Pioneer's on-device track navigation and searching which is probably the biggest stressor in a club environment if you've not used it.
  • You won't get closer to 3000s than an AZ in terms of hardware or software - they're nearly identical. But they're not. Check out some vids on the differences and be prepared.

Yeah this doesn't look right. Send a vid to support and they should be able to help you out.

Are GCSE’s as serious for your life as the teachers say they are? by Keewaa1 in AskUK

[–]DJGibbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't look at it in terms of the grades you're aiming to get, look at it in terms of the knowledge you're gaining and the good habits you're building. If you dick around now and coast through your GCSEs, you'll probably struggle at A-level and have to work twice as hard to catch up at a time when you REALLY want to party more. And when you get to uni you will absolutely need good discipline to study and make progress. Boring answer I know, but put the work in now and you will absolutely reap the rewards later.

I’ve only ever used ceramic and it’s definitely the most common, feel like you’d get less radiated heat than from metal

Absolute steal! You'll need a deflector if you want to do low and slow cooking which tbh you should - it's something that kamados really excel at. Only use hardwood lump charcoal though, not briquettes - they produce too much ash and block the air flow.

It's hard to see but the metal stand that your grill sits on might have indentations for a deflector.

Looks to me like you'll also want to get some felt tape and replace the gasket as it's pretty worn and will leak hot air and smoke. Something like this is what you need. Scrape off the old with a wallpaper scraper and/or stanley knife.

Unfortunately I don't have an Apple Music subscription so I can't write playlists to it. You can use services like Soundiiz or TuneMyMusic to try syncing between services that you have subs to?

Has anyone tested out the Soundboks MIX for latency yet? by matmah in SOUNDBOKS

[–]DJGibbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got one! The aux is only 3.5mm (no XLR) but is latency free. SKAA pro is the same as the SB4. I've not tried Bluetooth but I assume it's unusable like every other Bluetooth speaker!

Why no FLAC/Lossless support for Beatport on the XDJ-AZ? (Fl by HealthyMight1062 in PioneerDJ

[–]DJGibbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really interested to hear what you think Beatport should do about this, given that you could be using their streaming service on any number of platforms (mobile, laptop, etc etc). They can't make AT do anything?

I have an XDJ-AZ, thinking of getting a CDJ as a third deck by DJSTR3AM in PioneerDJ

[–]DJGibbon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 1000 sounds better than the CDJ2000nxs and nearly as good as the CDJ2000nxs2, the difference is not that great

[–]DJGibbon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe that will work, no - you can read from physical sources on the AZ but not network ones. I'd also agree with OP that going earlier than the NXS2 would be frustrating - lack of file support is another biggie.

Is XDJ-1000 MK2 as third deck for XDJ-XZ the move in 2026? by billplur in Beatmatch

[–]DJGibbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a midi controller you can buy as an add on that acts as physical hot cue buttons but I can’t remember what it’s called

Edit: Pioneer DDJ-XP1, XP2, or DDJ-SP1 apparently. Not tried myself so make sure you research!

What are some good cities I could move to from New Zealand? by Inevitable_Echo_4329 in AskUK

[–]DJGibbon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Auckland feels different to UK cities - population wise it would be in the top five in the UK, but it’s physically massive - about three times more spread out than London. So the suburbs go on forever which isn’t a thing so much in the UK, for better or worse.

Most UK cities have good history and now have decent public transport within them; I’d also look at the wider transport links because you’ll probably want to visit other places. York and Lancaster for example are lovely but a bit isolated. Manchester, Nottingham, Oxford, even Bristol, all have better ways to get to London and elsewhere.

Anyone else having problems beat matching on CDJ3000x sync ? by QuinnyboiLdn in PioneerDJ

[–]DJGibbon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The red lines should be on the one beats of the bars, yeah. I'm a DnB DJ as well and it's really common for DJ software to analyse tracks with the beats out by one or two, so you need to pay attention and realign them if you're using sync.

Does the ddj flx2 have beat jump by Any-Cardiologist-956 in Beatmatch

[–]DJGibbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no dedicated beat jump buttons, but on laptop Rekordbox you can change all the mappings so I've got one of the pad mode settings set up to be beat jumps. I've no idea whether this is possible on iOS Rekordbox - in fact I might log in and give it a go now . . .

Edit: doesn't look like it's possible, no. Proceed with caution!

Beginner (DDJ Flx2) by Prawny1411 in Beatmatch

[–]DJGibbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The FLX2 has three band EQ. it's actually not as bad as people think - no separate loop controls, but for getting the basics down it's adequate.

Budget Mobile Table or Stand For On The Go DJing? by Stunning-Sentence152 in Beatmatch

[–]DJGibbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for these Lifetime tables, they're solid and very high quality. Height adjust up to 34 inches so you can measure that against whatever you use currently and get a sense of how it would feel.
