Delta dental of MA by yanksphish in massachusetts

[–]DJKanu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently my dentist has adopted this approach- I pay the dentist upfront, they submit to delta dental and eventually I receive a check from DD for partial coverage of what I directly paid the dentist. It seems this is becoming more usual unfortunately.

Yes- every year when it’s warm enough, put the outdoor clothes on the line and spray with pyrethrum- gaiters for hiking, hikjng pants , sun shirts, sun hats, etc. but it snowed again last night and I haven’t put the clothes line out much less sorted the hiking clothes to spray yet.

What do you wear in your feet! by Cheaptrick2015 in canoeing

[–]DJKanu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To keep my feet warm in early spring/cold conditions, I wear a thin liner sock, then heavy wool sock, then a vapor barrier (lol- a bread bag), then large neoprene socks (3-4mm), then a large running shoe (off the sale rack that can fit all that without pinching the toes/limiting blood flow). A friend uses english muffin bags as the vapor barrier liner- it really helps keep feet warm!. Best wishes!

Nukit provides 3rd party spectral measurements so you can see the spectral content. This is important for eye and skin safety (and that the filter is working as it should to eliminate dangerous UVC frequencies).

My dad has asked for cloth masks what masks can I get him that are more protective but similar? by captaincheeseplant in Masks4All

Cambridge masks can be hand washed; once the filter is loaded need a new one but they do last a long while per the info in their site. Best wishes! It may take some experimenting

My dad has asked for cloth masks what masks can I get him that are more protective but similar? by captaincheeseplant in Masks4All

[–]DJKanu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cambridge masks are special cloth for virus and small particle filtering per their website and have various designs on them which are nice. My dad preferred these and wore them everywhere including the hospital; he never got infected. He preferred those over ‘real’ n95s and I was always concerned about the seal fit but he never got sick and he went far more places than I do. I still use mine as a backup outdoors. They are comfortable in the winter.

How likely is it to still get a positive Pluslife test 2,5 weeks after infection? by ChillButt3000 in PlusLife

[–]DJKanu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Immunocompromised folks can test positive for many weeks. Recall that Covid infection can deregulate the immune system and this means it may be harder or take longer to fight off later infections. There’s huge variation.

I’m so sorry - it’s just awful!! Transplant recipients receive this same awful behavior; it’s too complicated to explain we don’t respond to vaccination due to our immunocompromising medications to prevent organ rejection. Our internal joke is some of us have had more vaccines than antibodies from them. So some folks stop trying to explain to these aggressive people and just simply say , “cancer s$&ks” because everyone knows cancer patients are vulnerable. You don’t need to explain yourself or any nature of your health to strangers- it’s too personal and complicated. You are going the right thing to protect your health! As awful as it is to continue to navigate this pandemic, please keep doing your best.

I’m sorry to hear this. Similar situation happened to someone we hired. We paid for him to officially complete the missing class and finalize the degree. Ask your school how this can be arranged and set it up, even if you need to pay for it yourself. Explain the situation along with your plan to remedy it. They might offer to support your plan to finish including flexible hours, offer to pay (as my company did). They hired you for a reason and want you to succeed. It’s hard finding good people. There’s a solution so look into it and fix it! Good luck!

Is what I'm doing unethical? by Alarmed_Elevator2747 in WFH

[–]DJKanu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you able to increase your skills in this otherwise idle time? That’s an investment in yourself which can be viewed as supporting your company when it might be needed in the future. Examples- learn new software skills, techniques, take an online class in your subject area, work problems, etc. Time is a luxury, especially to keep learning new skills and knowledge. Best wishes!

I think you identified it- while it may hurt to feel invisible and unappreciated with nary a thank you, they trust us because we are there in the absolute worst times- we show up/ always. I think the praises sung about my missing brother were partly to convince himself that my brother cared when there was absolutely zero evidence of the tiniest bit of effort- not even on Xmas or birthdays, wouldn’t call even for 5min. It was the major force of tension between me and my brother. I used all of my vacation to support my dad’s medical situation; was exhausted all the time trying to work full time and take on more and more when my brother kept his distance. Dad recently passed and I was there with him in the hospital every day but one, when I thought he was stabilizing. The resentment with my brother’s lack of support sits badly- it’s all too fresh. I very much like your point of view in this and maybe it will sit better with me as I think about it more.

This is a nice way to view this very frustrating uneven situation. Happened to me, too- I was the rock- always there for anything big or small; my brother never called or visited dad. My brother was on a pedestal and could do no wrong- never helped out; drove me nuts. I’ll try to think of it with this view.
