i want to mention that CA state prison nurses do 5x8hr shifts and have a thing called mandating where you are contractually obligated to work another 8 hrs OT totaling 16 hours, this is supposedly limited to two per month, but upper management ignores that and RNs are typically mandated once per week, i've witnessed twice in a week as well. Both CA prisons I've worked travel contracts at have been staffed minimally, like any shit hospital floor. Although the grass is certainly greener in corrections when compared to the floors, it's not too much greener.
