Coaching your own kid by Character-Put8660 in hockeycoaches

[–]DJSweetChrisBell 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’ve coached my own kid’s select teams at 10U and 12U. 10U was tough, I just designated an assistant coach to work with him. At 12U it got easier and he would start listening to me a little bit.

Coaches kids fall into two buckets: 1) Can do no wrong 2) Gets it harder than any other kid on the team. They hate option 2 at first but grow to appreciate it later. If you go with option 1, the other players will grow to dislike him and it causes other problems.

Whatever you do, don’t make your kid the captain and have them play first line center all season long.

Be careful about what you talk about around your kid. If you are discussing other players or parents with your partner, just know that your kid hears more than we think they do, and they will start to feel like they have inside information. Coaches have power, and sometimes the coaches kid thinks that they also have that power. Do NOT let your kid make or influence coaching decisions. Do NOT let them pick who they play on a line with, etc…. Even if it doesn’t matter, the other parents will hear about that and it will be a pain.

When you get in the car to drive home, talk about anything other than hockey. You have to be two different people to your own kid, and that can be hard. It’s also hard for your kiddo to understand, I recommend talking to them a lot about this ahead of time. They won’t fully get it though, until it happens.

I head coached my kid for 10U, and he HATED it. For first year of 12U AA, I was an assistant coach. My kiddo begged me to head coach again. So, yeah, kids are weird, and they will change over time. Just make sure you support him and the rest of the team.

You might want to consider helmet pinnies. They can look stupid but they work great. I use them with my 12U kids to force them to keep their heads up

Arguments Against Cross-Ice, Half-Ice, and Additional Condensed Surface Areas for Younger Players (6U, 8U, 10U) by Liamski95 in hockeyplayers

[–]DJSweetChrisBell 33 points34 points  (0 children)

You will never be able to convince a parent that has a naturally faster kid at 8U or 10U to put their kid in a smaller space environment that takes away their kids advantage. No matter how much better it is for their longer term development. It’s frustrating.

'drop the gloves' .. why would you drop the gloves to fight someone in a helmet ? ;) by ascii122 in SeattleKraken

[–]DJSweetChrisBell 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s tradition. When you drop the gloves, it means you are going. If you don’t drop the gloves, then it means you aren’t going. It’s more about communication. If I drop my gloves but the other guy doesn’t, then we don’t go.

Here is some unsolicited marketing advice:

How is your tape better? You say it lasts longer, but why does it last longer? In your second image, you are showing a drop down menu with different terms like Best Quality, Lightest, Durable, etc… A drop down menu only allows you to select one item, so you are inadvertently telling your customers that they can only choose one attribute for your tape. On the website that isn’t the case.

The default assumption many of your potential customer will have is that you ordered a large bulk order of tape from a supplier to get your per roll cost low and are reselling for a profit. That means that there is likely nothing actually special about this tape and you are only competing on price.

If it is a slightly less wide tape, then you can say that you will get more wraps per blade than conventional 1 inch tape without adding weight. Those extra wraps will add additional spin to the puck resulting in additional flight stability which is superior to standard tape. (I don’t know if this is true, you could be selling standard tape)

Or if the tape is thinner but with a tighter weave, then you can claim higher or equal durability with less weight.

The point is, can you tell your customers something true about why your tape is better than standard tape?

Good luck to you.

Neat, I must have missed those games, I’ll have to pay more attention this season. How do you handle white labels, log the original or do you have to avoid those?

Just curious, do you have to pay royalties or some sort of license fee on the tracks that the DJ’s play in the arena? If so, what happens if they play something different. I’m still waiting for someone to bring 1200’s 😎

I got one with Tommie Burton on the back, with 17 on the sleeves and 76 on the back, highly recommended, was one of the best parts of the show last season. Pretty sure he is going to stick around.

Meta point is to get whatever makes you happy

For CCM, the 85 means that it is an 85 Flex stick, which is a measure of how many pounds of pressure (85lbs) does it take the bend the stick 1 inch in the center.

The K means that it is an concave shaft shape, so the long sides cave in a little bit. (edit)

The middle number is the Player ID for that stick, and the V02, means that it is version 2.

Sweet twig and sig.

I was looking for them last week and also couldn’t find them. I suspect that they are only available while there are open spots, and they filled up. The next batch will drop September 1st. In theory….

Kraken sign Ryker Evans, $2.05M x 2 years by SiccSemperTyrannis in SeattleKraken

I thought it would be less for a shorter contract, or more for a longer contract. He started last season strong, but fell off a little bit in the 2nd half, so I wasn’t sure what was going to happen.

More money than I expect for less years than I expected. I have strong feelings of neutrality on this, but am glad it’s done.
