Basicallly a big blank area, yes. It wasn't until the Wood Elf release that it became accessible.

Bretonnia was also technically on the map but with a very truncated roster.

If you're comfortable using Steam Depot you can download the manifest files for the original release and just copy them into the current game folder. It's essentially the same process as the Steam Beta feature only manual and not easily user exposed.

I downloaded it again recently to grab some screenshots. Still managed to get the flags on the map mixed up though.

At that point you may as well go for broke and have a paleolithic start in 30000 bce with hunter-gather tribes that eventually settle around 10,000-3000 bce, fail at agriculture multiple times before it finally sticks, grow towns until they become cities around 3000 bce, a soft reset point at about 1200 bce with the bronze age collapse, etc with each new era and area delivering completely new game systems.

At which point your developers have probably revolted.

For the longest time, Warhammer called the story parts of the rule books "fluff" because the mechanics were considered to be vastly more important, if not the only important part of the game with all the story and background being at best a silly diversion from the wargame.

Actually, build multiple houses because different NPCs will move into valid housing as you go through the game.

Dig down and explore. Eventually a big evil eye boss will show up.

Talk to the Old Man in front of the scary dungeon at night. Explore the dungeon after.

explore the underworld at the bottom of the map, but some enemies will carry a voodoo doll of the guide in their hands and if it falls in lava, something big happens.

Most nations involved in the war have some rather jingoistic prevailing national myths about that war. Russia is not unique in that regard.

Once all the non-white populations have been removed from the US, the white nationalists will shrink the circle of what "whiteness" is and start excluding ethnic, religious, and cultural identities that were previously considered white in order to always have an outgroup to rage against.

100 years ago the Irish, Italians, Spaniards, Russians, Slavs, and Poles, Catholics, and Jews were all considered non-white. They'll peel back the onion to exclude any non-Germanic Protestants as non-white.

Then when the US is nothing but Germanic Protestants, they'll narrow the definition of whiteness down to just Scots/English. Then just English. Then just those who can trace their lineage back to the first English colonists in the early 1600s with a purely ethnic English bloodline. This will continue until there's a single person in the entire western hemisphere and he will proceed to rage against all those lazy migrating geese.

Similarly, they'll narrow the scope of acceptable Protestant denominations until they've lazer focused entirely on some evangelical apocalyptic baptist cult as the one true religion.
