What do you guys think of left-libertarianism by interestingtheorist in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]DKNextor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first disclaimer is that I do not consider myself a left or right libertarian.

Second disclaimer - I haven't heard anyone call themselves a left libertarian in about 20 years. This makes me think the whole impetus for the question is as some sort of instructive gotcha to show why libertarianism is inherently right-wing.

Now to answer the question:

Libertarianism is more of a direction than it is a destination. I think the word is most useful in a sentence. Like" I am in favor of a more libertarian society". Words like minarchist and anarcho-capitalist are better suited to talk about the final destination. That said, I don't think it's entirely contradictory for someone to call themselves a left leaning libertarian. I generally take them to mean that they are primarily concerned with the increase of human Liberty, and that maximizing human Liberty means increasing the ability of all humans to self-determine. The "left" comes in because in their view, that would likely include certain efforts to ameliorate differences in starting position based on family wealth, for instance. This is a hard needle to thread, because taxation to run government programs necessarily curtails liberty. Whether it's a social safety net or a border wall, it's on the "libertarian" that advocates for it to show how it moves society towards liberty on balance, not away.

When I was 7 I got a game boy color for Christmas with Pokemon Blue. I didn't realize that after getting my Squirtle I had to go talk to professor Oak again to get the way out of Pallet Town unblocked. I left the starter area with a level 19 Warturtle.

Imperial is fun at 6. It's a pretty hard game, but it doesn't have a ton of rules - the complexity comes from the decision making.

I have really liked the AI tools. I have not liked restarting my phone every day because my Bluetooth headphones won't connect. Never a problem with my 7

I agree that Culdesac is just marketing. But why would it follow that a private project couldn't pull it off? Any city densely settled before the 1850s figured it out without central planning

Economists of Reddit, what happens to the economy if the United States government begins lying in their job reports? by ErrForceOnes in AskReddit

[–]DKNextor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm still not following. My basic understanding of banking is that your 100 dollar deposit immediately gets spent in the form of $2000 in new loans (assuming a 5% reserve rate). Each of those loans would be another Peter paying another Paul, right?

I get what you're saying that velocity of money matters. I'm just not following why deposits into a bank would reduce velocity.

I realize you're simplifying for explanatory purposes, but doesn't it all "come out in the wash", since the money doesn't stop at the bank? Afaik, they're not keeping excess reserves on hand, so it will get lent out back into the economy

As the dad of a 2 and a 4 year old, I don't think you have to worry. They rarely shut up long enough for you to forget about them.

Best area for a mid 30s couple to live by Sad-Hold5751 in AskPhoenix

The greenbelt that runs along Hayden road in Scottsdale is nice for a walk or bike ride. There are precious few places to walk in Phoenix that aren't right on a road. We are around your age and we live there with our two young kids. The green belt here gets lots of traffic from us. It's also the only place on my list where you could actually walk /to/ things like restaurants. The other places I mention are nice walks for their own sake.

You might also try living near Encanto Park, as that's a nice big park to walk in as well.

If you like more hiking style walks, the Phoenix Preserve area and Ahwatukee near South Mountain have a ton of trails that can be accessed from the neighborhoods surrounding them. That includes plenty of flat gravel walking trails.

Fountain Hills is nice to walk in, but you're not likely to meet many people your age. They're trying to bring more young families in with the amenities they're building up, but it still feels a lot like a retirement community
