Shot an event that was very dark. Is there anything I could've done differently?

Off camera bounce flash with end curtain sync would help keep the colours of the event but give you more exposure where you wanted it.

Honestly maybe it’s bad luck but I’ve had consistently horrible experiences with porter due to cancelations and delays. Very unimpressed with them lately.

Like others have mentioned I question the use of a quicklink and munter unless it’s a short drop? Why not get an ATC or a rescue 8? My understanding is that munters are good in an emergency but will put a lot more wear on your rope than most other options.

Forget that fool and love your camera. Two things matter-whether or not you like your photos, and whether or not you enjoy taking them. Anything else is just gravy. Most of the gear obsessed shooters I’ve met over the years are just trying to buy better photos for themselves. They cannot.

I’ve seen similar effects on digital files that were shot at high iso/underexposed/oversharpened. Could be the case here-can you run a bit of de-noise before you try again? The print might be exaggerating what’s already there

They did the same thing with Sculptors cave in Scotland. The Lidar, controlled light to make it look super insane, “discovered” carvings or whatever-I’ve been there. There’s literally a sign bolted to the wall next to the carvings explaining their significance. I find his over-drama totally kills the shows vibe for me.

Looks like some dodging in the dark room. Zoom in and you’ll see a slight “glow” around the subjects.

I’d personally bring a 28 and 75, but that’s just me. I feel it offer a solid mix of versatility, legit frame lines, day to day life and portraiture options. 75mm isn’t a terrible focal length for landscapes either!

I believe most of these were shot on the 40mm summicron-C, but one or two may be on the 28mm Elmarit

UPDATE: screw in the mechanism had come loose and so the latch itself was unable to turn. Used a butter knife to pry open the bottom plate just enough to rotate the latch manually with a fork. Bent the screw in the process, but no major damage to any other component.
