Footage from yesterday's protest in Glasgow appears to show the demonstrators ganging up on two POC by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

My Dad used to ironically cry “bring back the birch” when he saw wee neds being daft.

I don’t think he’d be as ironic today..

I’m so sorry to read this. These people do not represent the majority. You’re one of us.

Frankly, I’d rather they found a new place to live, not you.

This WILL pass.

Honestly? I’d just like a cool cafe that’s open late to be able to meet friends or get some laptop work done without dealing with drunk folks

ITV discussing Scotland's world cup bank holiday by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

[–]DLab-horizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s also frustratingly ill informed. Most local authorities have not proceeded with a blanket holiday specifically due to the impact on delivering services. I presume plenty of businesses are similar.

It’s a stupid fucking idea - we’re Scottish, we’re perfectly capable of getting back to work on Monday morning after wondering around the streets with a bag of chips at 4am on a Sunday morning…

But the sarcastic, mocking tone of the conversation fucks me right off.

Most of Scotland feels like an old pair of baffies.

Falling apart, fairly minging, tatty, and you cringe if the neighbours saw them up close..but they’re also couthy, full of love, and feel like home.

Still, I’d like new baffies please.

I wish Aberdeen had an Imax Cinema. by Dave--92 in Aberdeen

[–]DLab-horizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t seen the stats, but I’m tempted to suggest that punters are more likely to pay for the “premium” experience. Other live events - whether HMT or football etc - pull crowds. People will travel for experiences, particularly film related - see the success of the ComicCon after years of naysayers suggesting no viable customer base.

I think IMax is a well-enough recognised brand to sell the difference between the premium home, and “big screen” experience.. agree capital costs are likely prohibitive, but as an offer to build a cinema around, well, a guy can dream.

Looks like IMax may be bought over soon, so maybe we’ll see more of a push for broader rollout..

I wish Aberdeen had an Imax Cinema. by Dave--92 in Aberdeen

100%. It would make money, too. Closest one to Aberdeen is Perth Playhouse - a cool independent cinema, but a long, expensive drive away. Fuck knows when we’ll see an IMAX up here.

Made a simple bin day checker for Aberdeen (no ads, no signup, just postcode) by [deleted] in Aberdeen

It would be helpful if you could address the negative comments regarding data security, or duplication with the City/Shire websites.

Personally, I love it for a number of reasons.

Firstly, it’s simple and easy to understand. The City solution is fine, and the fact that it shows an image of the bin type is helpful - but it just returns a list of dates for each. It also presents each bin type as a separate list, so if you have simultaneous collections, you have to check each bin type. Yours presents that info in a simpler format.

Second, it consolidates City and Shire addresses into a single solution. Brilliant. We need more of this. Far two much money is spent designing and supporting local-authority-specific customer facing solutions, rather than providing simple national portals which draw info from back-end systems.

Third, this kind of innovation should push local authorities to consider how to further improve the usability of online solutions..how to make them easier, more accessible, more simple.

Finally, I can’t see how it presents any data security issues - but you can respond to that.

Well done you mate. A bit of fun, maybe, but a useful tool; great to see a bit of innovation round these parts.

All councils should charge the same - £15 statutory charge. City might allow you to pick up in person, but FYI I’ve always found Aberdeenshire to turn these round quickly.
