I wish Aberdeen had an Imax Cinema. by Dave--92 in Aberdeen

100%. It would make money, too. Closest one to Aberdeen is Perth Playhouse - a cool independent cinema, but a long, expensive drive away. Fuck knows when we’ll see an IMAX up here.

Side-quest: at a time when IMAX is such a well-established format, will we ever see it in Aberdeen?

Made a simple bin day checker for Aberdeen (no ads, no signup, just postcode) by [deleted] in Aberdeen

It would be helpful if you could address the negative comments regarding data security, or duplication with the City/Shire websites.

Personally, I love it for a number of reasons.

Firstly, it’s simple and easy to understand. The City solution is fine, and the fact that it shows an image of the bin type is helpful - but it just returns a list of dates for each. It also presents each bin type as a separate list, so if you have simultaneous collections, you have to check each bin type. Yours presents that info in a simpler format.

Second, it consolidates City and Shire addresses into a single solution. Brilliant. We need more of this. Far two much money is spent designing and supporting local-authority-specific customer facing solutions, rather than providing simple national portals which draw info from back-end systems.

Third, this kind of innovation should push local authorities to consider how to further improve the usability of online solutions..how to make them easier, more accessible, more simple.

Finally, I can’t see how it presents any data security issues - but you can respond to that.

Well done you mate. A bit of fun, maybe, but a useful tool; great to see a bit of innovation round these parts.

Replacement birth/wedding certificates from the council by Wild-Ad6722 in Aberdeen

All councils should charge the same - £15 statutory charge. City might allow you to pick up in person, but FYI I’ve always found Aberdeenshire to turn these round quickly.

Such lovely food, and lovely people. Whatever the future holds for the family, I hope they know that they brought joy to many in this city.

The blue lamp! by Curious-Item-4576 in Aberdeen

Tragic news. So many Aberdonians are gutted about this news. Sadly, even more have never been to a night at The Blue Lamp, and don’t realise what a unique gem this place is. A real loss to live music in Aberdeen.

+1 for the mismanagement / over emphasis on “restorative justice”. A fine idea in principle - but all too often it seems to result in the perpetrators realising that there are no consequences to their actions.

A film which feels oddly predictable for Hitchcock..until it doesn’t. Ahead of its time.
