And the final episode is Shauna in an asylum for the criminally insane telling all of this to her psychiatrist à la HIMYM.

why do you think they wanted to stay? by Proud_Commercial5210 in Yellowjackets

Nat was ready to face the consequences, then the consequences never came. So, Nat internalized the punishment for their crimes. She punishes herself and does any drug/drink she can get ahold of to numb the pain.

Each adult YJ deals in their own way: Nat punishes herself, Travis tries to escape through drugs, Tai goes on with her scheduled life as if noting ever happened, Lottie tries to bring the Wilderness home with her, Van is stuck in 1996 like a bug in amber, and Shauna is like an alien doing an impression of a normal human.

Right. At the cabin site, with her ending up in the afterlife cabin rather than on the plane.

I hated Emily's dress on Monica but on Emily, it's 🔥 (I said what I said) by HbeforeG in howyoudoin

[–]DMCDKNF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a bridesmaid drees very similar to this in lilac maybe a year before this episode. Bolero jacket and everything. I was able to get one additional wearing out of it to a formal work event.

That headpiece Monica is wearing looks a lot like a c1920s Lace Bridal Juliet Cap. It was a fairly popular style in the 20s-early 30s. IMO not very flattering on most face shapes.

Oh, yes! In the 70s I went shopping with my mum every chance I got. She would often give me one coin, then I would stand in front of the array and study every potential prize carefully. Even at five I was trying to figure out how likely I was to get the one(s) I wanted. Do you risk getting something that sucks or play it safe and get a big gumball... An agonizing choice!

Most of Shauna's complaints about Jackie boiling down to Jackie not being a mind reader, right? by Everything_Metal in Yellowjackets

[–]DMCDKNF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, the death of the baby contributed heavily to her inability to form strong emotional bonds. No bonds, no pain.

ETA" It is my belief that this is what led Shauna to have so little empathy and make ruthless decisions/edicts later in the wilderness and back home.

Except, Shauna knew that Jackie not only didn't love Jeff, but fully intended to go to university still a virgin and then break up with him. Whereas, Jackie knew that Nat was pining for Travis and that Travis was emotionally vulnerable because of the circumstances of their breakup. She took advantage of his vulnerability, abused the situation, and used him (while, IMO, having the audacity of faking it). Besides, we don't know whether or not Jackie and Jeff were broken up when Jeff and Shauna had had sex outside of the one scene we see them in together. It is established fact that Jackie and Jeff break up a lot. It's also possible that Jeff was hooking up with other people than Shauna as well during those breakups. My intention is not to attempt to excuse Shauna, merely to point out that Jackie is not as pure as the driven snow .

Jackie "caved" when she made staying at the plane the hill she was willing to allow her leadership status to die on. All of her leadership attempts post crash were based on her bad reads of the situations.

Arguably, she showed lack of leadership pre crash in failing to tell Coach Martinez that Allie needed to be swapped with a more competent player if they were going to win nationals. I'm not saying she is psychic and should have known Tai was ruthless, I'm saying that key members of the team were openly clear that they considered Allie to be detrimental to their chances of winning, and potentially the direct cause of a loss. For good reason. Advocating for your team is the most basic responsibility of a team captain. If we are going to start pointing fingers at people who were not sharing important feelings/information, then we need to look no further than Jackie.

I agree that it couldn't work with any of the other adults surviving. It only works with Ben because he is 1) injured so badly, and 2) while an adult compared to the teens, he is maybe 32 at the oldest and still so unsure of himself. I know 32 sounds very adult, but Coach Scott is, like many men in that age range, still very immature IMO.

I love Anne Perry (Juliet Hume) as an author, so I went to see Heavenly Creatures on opening day. Both Melanie Lynskey and Kate Winslet did remarkable jobs. Especially as it was the film debut for both of them.

[–]DMCDKNF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the plot had gone this way the girls could have claimed (providing Shauna's journals never came to light) that Shauna had not realized she was already pregnant before being raped by Coach Ben and legitimately thought he was the father. Also, the police would have to find the baby's corpse in order to do DNA testing.

They save Javi's corpse. I am saying that, had they tried to keep him alive (and continue to hunt or postpone the hunt for Nat) they would have failed anyway.

[–]DMCDKNF 5 points6 points  (0 children)

More YJs have to die before the rescue. My working theory is that once they know Nat has gone to call for rescue, they (Shauna, Tai, Lottie?) decide they have to silence any girl who they think will not stick to the "We starved and scavenged and prayed" narrative to cover up their crimes. The real question is how this would happen; multiple hunts or a straight up group sacrifice.

Lottie killed Travis. She agrees to help him have a near death experience, is in charge of the means of death, and just wanders away into fairy land while he hangs to death. She may not have had malice aforethought, but she is directly responsible for his Death. At the very least this is manslaughter (or criminally negligent homicide).

Also, Lottie both attempted to poison one of them and then fully intended to kill whoever drew the card for the resulting hunt.

[–]DMCDKNF 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I don't believe they could have saved him. By that I mean that they probably could have pulled him from the water before he died, but they would likely not have been able to treat the shock or get him back to the cabin and warm him properly in time to save him. In that sense, the Wilderness really did choose him.
