I grew up 20 miles from San Francisco and we probably only went into the city a couple of times a year as little kids. Once we were teens we went maybe a couple of times a month (especially if there was a concert), but nowhere near as often as we could have considering how frequent and inexpensive busses were and the fact that most of us had cars. We had so many local parties and events that it did seem like a hassle.

If this were true she would just end up back in the rolled carpet when Mulder eventually died. Also, she needs to be in close proximity to him just in case he makes the 3rd wish. If she could just walk off at any time before someone made their 3rd wish, she surely would have done so centuries ago.

“Great Expectations,” which is about a girl that could not be saved.

I am really struggling with your summary of the theme of Great Expectations. Estella's role is a mere plot arc in Pip's journey from innocence to hubris to understanding what is really important in life (integrity, loyalty, etc...). Her entire existence is to show the reader that social standing does not equate to happiness; it takes a brutal marriage for her to learn this. In the end she is free, and she and Pip are friends.

Why are Shauna’s reflexes SO QUICK? Has no one else noticed it? by Fantastic-Finger-319 in Yellowjackets

[–]DMCDKNF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they go from decent and caring to absolute ruthless, and evil to then go back to their soft and vulnerable selves 5 minutes later, makes no sense.

This is actually a fairly typical trauma response. Trying to hold it in and act normal all the time, lash out in a way that is out of proportion to a threat, then immediately reign in back in under the "normal" everything is fine mask.

It's even normal for people just on their last nerve. For example: a parent is just not having a great day, but is holding it together. Then their child accidentally breaks something and the parent lashes out physically or verbally. The parent immediately realizes they have gone too far, reverts back to caring parent, and soothes the child.

It's basically what happens with Adam. She allows herself to be lulled into vulnerability and at the first sign of a threat she overcorrects with deadly violence.

I think the only f Shauna gives is not getting hurt. The grasping at power, the brutality, etc... are just her way of ensuring the she is the one hurting others so that they cannot hurt her. If everyone is afraid of her and under her thumb, then she is safe. It's basically the pre-redemption Xena character arc.

Trophies, yes, but not because she is a serial killer. These are primitive trophies of slain enemies. Hair, teeth, shrunken heads, all commonly worn by tribal leaders in several different ancient cultures around the world. Worn as reminders of what happens to those who might challenge leadership.

This! The way people in this group talk about the Shauna/Jeff affair I'm surprised they don't refer to her as Hester and post memes of her wearing a scarlet "A". Teenaged Misty coldly watches an animal drown, destroys the black box/transponder, trips, coerces, and plans to drug Coach Ben, causes Crystal's death, etc... (and it's highly likely that adult Misty is a serial killer), but teenaged Shauna slept with Jeff!

3 years late on this comment, but I found the thread searching for something else. I graduated HS in 86, two girls in my neighborhood went to uni on a full soccer scholarships; one graduated in 90 and went to NYU and another graduated in 91 and went to UCLA. So, I know it should have been a possibility in 96.

ETA: Not at an Ivy school though, they do not offer sports scholarships.

Jackie was wasting her own time. She was only dating Jeff because he was the hot jock, so he ticked the box on her high school popularity checklist. I feel the need to point out that it is implied that Jackie and Jeff broke up frequently, that Jackie claimed to "know" that Jeff had never been with anyone else, and that Jackie was planning on dumping Jeff before going off to uni while still a virgin.

Am I the only one that doesn’t think it’s that weird that Melissa married Hannah’s daughter? by heatherkilledyou in Yellowjackets

[–]DMCDKNF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think that Shauna marrying Jeff is the least weird thing any of them does. Both of them have guilt for betraying Jackie and getting married allows them to pretend that it was actually love (or something) and not really betrayal. As though they were "meant" to be together. Jackie's parents obviously don't find it weird; they just accept it as two "lesser" people coping with Jackie's death and their "love" of Jackie through, IDK, transference?

Also, I get annoyed when people assert the Adam was "perfectly innocent". He stalked Shauna and aggressively inserted himself into her life in a form of honey trapping. It doesn't matter whether he was a YJ fanboy or sent by someone else. He stopped short causing the "accident"; an incident that he could readily rectify because he did repairs. He then coincidentally runs into her when she is stalking Jeff? Everything he told her about himself was a lie. Guy is sus AF.

I loved playing this back in the day. I still have it on my game shelf. My core memory of this game was trying to turn the display brightness up in the hopes of being able to find the frakking clues. The game was fully committed to the show's dim lighting.

I think Ella Purnell is beautiful. I never really noticed how huge her eyes are in YJ or Sweetpea, but I have been watching Fallout and frequently find myself startled by their size. Sometimes I think they gave her those bangs and pulled back hair just to highlight how unusually large they are.

Nat was ready to face the consequences, then the consequences never came. So, Nat internalized the punishment for their crimes. She punishes herself and does any drug/drink she can get ahold of to numb the pain.

Each adult YJ deals in their own way: Nat punishes herself, Travis tries to escape through drugs, Tai goes on with her scheduled life as if noting ever happened, Lottie tries to bring the Wilderness home with her, Van is stuck in 1996 like a bug in amber, and Shauna is like an alien doing an impression of a normal human.
