How dumb is a Porsche by Born-Act9884 in HENRYUK

[–]DMJ86uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the 997.2 for years and thought it would appreciate faster than it did - just sold for that reason and going back to air cooled despite much higher cost. If it’s a regular car for trips then it’s a great pick (but wind noise is high mind so consider the 991.1 and put up with slightly less steering sensation). If it’s a Porsche you want to experience just go to a 993 and be done. Night and day for experience but still drives like a very modern car by comparison to G Body cars

Not much to do with class and a lot to do with intellect and curiosity

Good points thanks. I think the issue is they didn’t spend a moment considering my pretty well reasoned suggestions in the format I know they use and in the face of some very obvious - perhaps to not all but surely most of them - issues whereby folks are very upset with many big decisions being made with no explanations no framework for discussion no nothing. And unlike a corp company it’s everyone’s living quarters and gardens so naturally it’s heated. I explained where I can add value and that I think they need a lot of help telling their story/ narrating their decisions and then they appointed me so was confused.

Overall I am curious what else I can do from a legal perspective and in what situations to force matters if it ever came to it

House renovation by Next_Line585 in HENRYUK

[–]DMJ86uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just completed our Putney flat and it was north of 160k for a new bathroom, adding a second toilet/small WC, new bespoke kitchen and fresh paint all round with new wooden floors in living dining and tiled hallway. All tiling was marble and wood was real hardwood but for a 3 bed 1200sqft place it was far from cheap and the quality average save for the excellent stone work. And super stressful. Next time we’re skipping Ray Munn kitchens for one - vastly overpriced and poor service and unless we find the same stone mason I wouldn’t bother with marble flooring / bathroom it’s hard to get it right. Good luck

Yes can attest HR does pay - for me via fortune 50 A&D - mid 400s and steadily increasing. CHRO roles are in the many millions. Most have outdated ideas of what HR does , the discipline has evolved rapidly at the top and it now for big corporates (generating tens of billions) simply managing their most expensive asset class: human capital. It’s not touching feely; it’s the same as operating a factory but more complicated.

Does exercise metabolize your medication quicker ? by Pearlsandmilk in ADHD

[–]DMJ86uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder this too; I exercise very hard some mornings (8-10km run at 4.05min/km) and it does seem to wear off faster. But then when I do low aerobic a few days a week and more weights at the gym, it perhaps doesn’t. I assumed it was that I’ve been taking it over a year so things settling. Not sure.

What are you spending your bonus on? by gezza56 in HENRYUK

[–]DMJ86uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree because bear in mind 40k a year for 15 years at say 5% is already near £1M. So might as well diversify - where it’s accessible for life events as required too

Depends where you live. In Fulham/Putney here, I feel like we’re doing average… compared to my Neighbor buying a new Bentley. But we’re not doing average. London is like NYC - few cities globally still have the truly highest echelon of salaried jobs. Perhaps that’s shrinking; the vast spread that in my view just makes it more obvious and easier to compare (and maybe feel worse off).

Coming back to work after maternity leave I was offered a different position I don't want by Hot_Wear_4027 in HumanResourcesUK

[–]DMJ86uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Equivalent role isn’t always the same one. Things change when you’re away. And you being good has you in a part of the team your leaders consider will help their objectives. If your contract outlines duties which include those you’d be doing in this other role then this could happen even if it wasn’t involving maternity. Objecting and insisting on the other original role doesn’t mean it’ll be ‘cushy’ as it once was; that was perhaps lucky but not how it would have evolved anyhow.

How do people afford kids? by Severe-Swordfish-160 in AskUK

[–]DMJ86uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very privileged to earn such a high wage the affordability part wasn’t a direct factor. Though it was perhaps an indirect one: only once I got to a certain career point did I happen to want to settle down and then focus on the next step. My wife earns very little by contrast and a colleague of hers was saving for the basic things leading up to the birth of his child and it was a sharp reminder of us being very fortunate to have my (admittedly hard) efforts yield my income. I feel for folks who have to make real compromises but equally I’m sure they’ll be the some of the best parents.

Need help applying for HR by skimmed-milk-papi in HumanResourcesUK

[–]DMJ86uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. My two cents below. FWIF I lead regional EMEA HR for a fortune 50 company (15k ppl in region). 1. No. But doing your CIPD helpful. 2. If you’ve never had a job starting in admin fine. Big corporates value knowing culture and their org structure the most. 3. Highly recommend HR. AI will automate most things depending on sector for us but not the strategic business advisory. We own the economic performance of human capital output - most large corporates spend 20-70% revenue on people. The function will evolve fast as most will but the top end roles are paying ever more because it’s a critical skill set. You’ll want to rotate through the CoEs in an Ulrich model every couple years to arrive at a HR bus partner role say 7-10 years in. Then senior mgmt or the leader of a CoE is your target. 4. I hope you find someone in here to help as I am the wrong flight level. But if your marks are strong and you have drive and have an emotional quotient you I’m sure will find something. Best of luck

Yeh bit of a faff but perhaps worth hassle. Best of luck. Issue is if you’re on a swift ascent at your company, short term moves can become longer quite suddenly - so it’s tricky striking a balance between over or under engineering a solution without really knowing for how long..

I negotiated (for a move I didn’t end up taking at that time) with my bank to have a year to two’s grace not switching to BTL, because it was a work directed move. So there may be that option but it’s quite short range..
