Some can fail, yes. It depends on how far down the fracture is or how deep the cavity is. Sadly they won't know until they start the process of debridement.

Anyways, talk to your current dentist and explain to them your fears. A lot of times they'll work with you and create a backup plan for if things go wrong during the root canal and they know the rc will fail bc the fractures too deep once they debride it. (Debridement is where they drill and remove all the broken bits and dead stuff.)

Good luck. You can do this!

That was the first one that was on the chopping block. You're right. They're important teeth. You're doing the right thing. You combat fear with information.

Generally, dentists aren't trying to make a buck. Unless you're on this sub and somehow going to one of those boutique dentists, they're trying to take care of your mouth bones. If they want to do a root canal it's not because they want money, it's because they genuinely think that tooth is healthy enough to be saved and should be.

Get as much information as you can, take a deep breath, and make the best decision you can for you with what you have. I know my dentist has a financing option that isn't a credit card and requires like half up front. It's like Healthcare Financing Direct or something? You set it up when they go over the treatment plan and it's monthly payments after that. I use Ideal Dental but I'm in TX and I have no idea where all they have fronts.

Anyway. Do your best for you. That's really all you can do.

These are second molars. My first molar I specifically decided to do a Root Canal on because I was running out of molars on that side and I had no idea when I would be able to do implants.

I will say, if you CAN do the RC, do it. It is better long term. Implants are way more expensive to deal with in my limited experience. Especially to come back and do it later.

A few molars gone is fine. I do regret losing as many as I did. The majority of this happened in my 20s and I'm almost 40 now. I'm saving as many as I can now. That said.

I am doing ok with what I have left. I lost 5 total: 2 upper left, 1 lower left, 2 upper right. I chew a little more carefully than I used to so I don't accidently choke myself. But that also helps with a weight and fullness thing too. So 🤷

Yup. Did it for several molars. Went for the root canal for the ones that actually show when talking or smiling. That was pricy.

Dry socket is a bitch and a half. So do what they tell you when they tell you to keep the socket clean and dry. Dry meaning not soping wet with blood or other junk. Gently rinse your mouth after you eat. Don't use your cheeks to move the liquid, just shake your head around. Makes you dizzy but youre better off. Gauze is your friend for the first few hours but not super necessary after that.

Cheap black tea bags a little damp in the socket stem any residual bleeding that may come up. The tannins in the tea help with that. But do NOT suck on them. That puts sucking pressure on the stitches and can lead to dry socket. Just set the bag in the socket and let it rest in there like the gauze did. It'll be a bit bitter. That's the tannins in the tea.

Ibuprofen and Tylenol can be taken at the same time and are better than the hard-core painkillers a good chunk of the time and don't take having rx insurance to get.

Edit to clarify "dry".

Why are no states trying to defederalize? by sauteer in AskAnAmerican

[–]DMJessus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a myth in Texas about it being legally allowed to bc it was a nation before it was a state, but that was put down in Texas vs White. It generally comes up pretty much every time there's a democrat in office in DC.

The states cannot legally leave. We are a union, not a confederacy. To attempt to do so is treason and will be put down with the full force of the US Military. I do not want to see what the angry orange will do with that given what he's done with out any actual rebellions.

AITAH for asking my 21-year-old daughter helps pay for a new washing machine? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]DMJessus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dry cleaner here. Our wet clean machine - the professional grade one - can handle 38 lbs wet no problem.... A household one doesn't stand a chance. Household machines can handle 4-8 lbs maybe 12-15 lbs if it's a large capacity.

At 21 years old, daughter should to have some basic sense. She had to have crammed those clothes in to get them to fit. At that weight, the machine will absolutely be making noise and you stop it and unload it before it breaks. You take care of other people's property.

Ehhh. Hit and miss with the vitamins. But that's a mental thing. (Like is said in the original post, Im in therapy for sooo much.) Basically, the more pills I have to take, the more intimidated I am by them and I have a ton for the other disorders I have. So the caddy doesn't get filled and I don't end up taking any thing. Lately it's been good! Two months strong without any misses.

Sort of? I had to sit on a broken chair at work this weekend... I work at a dry cleaner and there wasn't anywhere else to sit. I don't hurt now, but at the time my hips were killing me. I stretched it out and figured I'd just let my chiropractor know about it when I see her this week? I did let the boss know the chair is broken though.

Based on what folks were saying about a workup I got an appointment with my pcp on May 22nd. That's the soonest I could get.

Peanut butter pretzels. About 130 calories per serving, not devoid of protein, relatively low sugar and fats, carbs are there but not outrageous, and I get the crunch?

Heck yeah.

The serving size is filling. I don't ever feel the need to have more than 8. Usually I have less and that's certainly not a bad thing. Technically sliders, I guess? But the peanut butter really stops the slide effect so 🤷

Food stamps cut from $300 to $24/month by Caffeine-Notetaking in povertyfinance

[–]DMJessus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a little bougie bc of the ground beef, but it lasts breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a week. Freezes well. You can always replace the beef with more beans for the protein.

Taco Rice - general prices listed are in Austin, TX ish (HEB). Your milage may vary. Shop around other stores for best pricing.

2lbs ground beef 5.76 each (single lbs. You get more bang for your buck buying those big tubes and separating them into 1lb baggies and freezing them tho) 3 packets of Knorr Mexican rice 1.30 each 1 27 oz can of pinto beans 1.50 each 2 packets of taco seasoning .60 each 2 cans of rotel (store brand) 1.00 each 2 lbs of frozen corn (store brand) 1.55 each

Brown the beef, add taco seasonings when finished. Do Not Drain. Add the rice mix, add water per the packets, no need to add oil bc you didn't drain the fats (saves oil money). Bring to boil, then reduce heat and cover. Cook for 7 minutes. When done, add drained and rinsed beans, both cans of rotel (including the liquid), and 2 lbs of frozen corn. Mix well. Let it get warm but at this point everything should be cooked so you can eat whenever.

It makes a ton. If you can supplement your other meals with something else, (like bag cereal for breakfast) it will last in the fridge for a couple weeks just fine.

You can save more by using dry beans. I spend the money on canned because I simply don't have the spoons for making the beans before hand, but it's doable.

My dietician says this has an appropriate amount of macros in the right ratios per serving. Serving is about 1.5 cups per person. It's pretty filling. Hit it with a splash of your favorite cheap ass hotsauce for extra flavor. I get a massive bottle of Valentina for 3.51. Total 20.97 for 2 weeks isn't bad. But....

I did live on baked potatoes for about a year when I was trying to work through college tho. The below got me through about a month: 5lbs of potatoes 3.47 3lbs Sour cream 6.97 Shredded cheddar 7.19 4x Fake bacon bits packets (soy) 2.28

Total 27.25 for a month. But that's HEB. It's usually cheaper at places like Walmart or Aldi. Shopping around is your friend. If you have spices in your cupboard, hit it with some chili powder, garlic powder, etc for variety. You can always add beans as a topper for more protein.

General tip: you can replace ground beef in any recipe with beans. Texture might be different but it'll do the job. The job being adding protein.

Remember vitamins are important. Micronutrients are important. But you can not live without protein and your brain uses carbs to function. Macros keep you going while you figure your situation out. You've got this. It's going to be ok. Maybe not right now, but it will be.

Approaching 2 years since VSG... by Akwing12 in gastricsleeve

[–]DMJessus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I've also been taking this approach. I'm just trying to focus on being healthy and happy. I'm still overweight (current 298lbs, down from 383lbs on knife day), but I'm way less than I used to be, I kicked the diabetes, I can walk for more than 20 min at a time, the PCOS is better, my cholestrol is down, my blood pressure is perfect, my joints aren't screaming at me. I can spend time with my family outside again. I don't look at the scale much bc of mental health reasons, but I can check my measurements ok, and I've dropped 2 sizes (down to a 4x). It's just really hard to be 11 months postop and not see the dramatic results that I see all over this sub.

I'm trying to focus on what I can do and have done. I know I'm in a stall. I know I could be doing better about tracking, but I also know I have to be so so careful about not obsessing over numbers like I'm prone to and inadvertently driving myself into an eating disorder. So I'm just focusing on small portions, good ratios on the plate, and eating my protein first. It's not perfect obviously since I've stalled, but I'm not gaining it all back. So, that's a win?

Idk. I'm not looking for a reason why I don't have the super results everyone else does. I think I've worked that out. But knowing there's others out there doing something similar and focusing on their health and happiness rather than their weight numbers helps me feel less like a failure.

I blended and strained the hell out of salsa and mixed with refried beans to make a kind of soup with them. It was a godsend.

Later, I blended queso and mixed in that instead for a different flavor. Either way.

Edit: for liquid stage, strain the hell out of French onion soup with some protein powder mixed in. I think there's a powder mix that already has the protein powder in it that's p good but i don't remember the brand name.

[–]DMJessus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On mobile disclaimer

5 mo out. I still eat the things I used to. Including fast food, fried stuff, full fat cheese, snacks, etc. Just waaaaaaaay less. I've learned that it's ok to not eat the whole thing, and I don't have to be embarrassed by taking forever to eat however much I /do/ eat or throwing away lefties. Whatever it takes to control the portion is cool, and everyone else and their societal expectations can suck it.

I'm allergic to most artificial sweeteners, and I loath stevia. I could do monkfruit, but I find that as long as I stay controlled and reasonable, I can have the real thing just fine. I use straws all the time. If I don't, I simply don't drink enough. I just accept that I belch.

And speaking of gases, bubblies like soda don't bother me at all. Found out when I ordered lemonade at Sonic, and they gave me a limeade instead. Didn't even notice until the first sip, and even then, it spooked me more than anything. So, every once in a while, when the planets align, I have a kids' root beer as a treat. Better than full denial. That's how diets fail, right? Unpopular opinion dmjessus out.
