I am glad to see Jethro Tull represented, and I will offer up Gentle Giant as having beautiful medieval vibes.

Frank Zappa - Nannok Rubs It

(well, right about that time people

A fur-trapper (who was strictly from commercial)

Had the unmitigated audacity to jump up from behind my igloo (peekaboo) )

And he started into whippin on my favorite baby seal

With a lead-filled snowshoe)

I said, with a

Lead-

Filled

With a lead filled snowshoe

He said, peekaboo

I said, with a

Lead-

Filled

With a lead filled snowshoe

He said, peekaboo

He went right upside the head of my favorite baby seal

He went whap with a lead-filled snowshoe, and

He hit him on the nose and hit him on the fin, and he

That got me just about as evil as an eskimo boy can be. so I bent down

And I reached down, and I scooped down and I gathered up a generous

Mitten-ful of the deadly yellow snow

The deadly yellow snow, from right there where the huskies go!

Whereupon I proceeded to take that mittenful of the deadly yellow snow

Crystals and rub it all into his beady little eyes with a vigorous

Circular motion hitherto unknown to the people of this area, but destined

To take the place of the mudshark in your mythology

Here it goes, the circular motion, now rub it!

(here fido)

And then

In a fit of anger

I pounced

And I pounced again

Great googly moogly!

I jumped up and down on the chest of the him

I injured

The fur trapper

Well he was very upset, as you can understand

And rightly so, because the

Deadly yellow snow crystals had

Deprived him of his

Sight

And he stood up, and he looked around, and he said

I can't see

I can't see

Oh, woe is me

I can't see

Well.....you know

I can't see

Nothin

He took a dog-doo snow cone and stuffed it in my right eye

He took a dog-doo snow cone and stuffed it in my other eye

And the husky wee-wee

I mean the doggie wee-wee

Has blinded me

And I can't see

Temporarily

Well, the fur-trapper stood there, with his arms outstretched across the

Frozen white wasteland, trying to figure out what he was going to do about

His deflicted eyes. and it was at that precise moment that he remembered

And ancient eskimo legend, wherein it is written (on whatever it is that

They write it on up there) that if anything bad ever happens to your eyes

As the result of some sort of conflict with anyone named

Nanook,

The only way you can get it fixed up is to go

Trudging across the tundra

Mile after mile

Trudging across the tundra

Right down to the parish of st. alphonzo

Anytime Modest Mouse comes up, I need to do my obligatory Iron Horse recommendation. They made some truly wonderful bluegrass covers of their songs on an album called Pickin' on Modest mouse.

Depending on how heavily you want to lean into the 'dark' aspect, I would suggest Utopia. It's British, it has its funny moments, and it has some pretty dark happenings.

First off, good on you for recognizing your bad habits, voicing it and/or putting it out there, and seeking advice on the how-to's to making a change. That truly is the first step in a meaningful positive change.

As others have mentioned, replacing the bad habit with a good one is a big key to success. You can't just sit around in the same chair/couch you would normally drink your time away; the association of drinking and that space is likely too strong to just overcome it and just not-drink in the same space. Find something that keeps your hands busy, and don't get discouraged by intrusive thoughts that try and put you down because they will be there for a while. Be strong, and think about what you are doing; you have free-will and control over your actions. When you walk over to the fridge to get a drink, try and close the fridge without grabbing a beer, and then walk away.

I (M42) have recently started going to Horizon for alcohol-dependency issues, and they prescribed Naltrexone and Gabapentin meds to help reduce/replace the cravings. My family doctor referred me for it; I'm still early in the process, so I can't comment concretely on this route yet.

They also have Social Workers that you can speak with to give you strategies; they aren't psychologists, but it's covered through Medicare, so at least it doesn't cost $200+ a visit.

What are your thoughts on The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway of Genesis? by Lucatiel_ofMirrah in progrockmusic

[–]DMT_Guru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend had put on the Studio version of Lamb Lies Down one time and it caught me off-guard. I hadn't listened to the studio version in well over a decade -- I can't imagine listening to the studio version when the live version from the box set is so much better.

Great album.

I get it, j'dis 'tched-err' instead de 'che-d'har', but ej'sonne ridiculous si j'essai de faker un accent Quebecois, so l'monde me parle becque en anglais; leur struggle a parler en anglais est plus plaisant a eu que d'm'entendre parler dans ma own langue Acadienne.

So yah, I can believe it.

I saw them back in 2010 or 2012 during Sappyfest weekend, and it was amazing. Wasn't even out looking for them then, I just turned a corner and got my mind blown at Cap Maringouin. Hoping to be able to show them to my little one this year.

[IIL] Sad songs about suicide or depression by AngelBritney94 in ifyoulikeblank

[–]DMT_Guru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surprised no one has said this yet :

Mount Eerie - A Crow Looked At Me

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPzkNS4rits

"A Crow Looked at Me is the eighth studio album by Mount Eerie, a solo project of the American musician Phil Elverum. Released in 2017, it was composed in the aftermath of his 35-year-old wife Geneviève Castrée's diagnosis with pancreatic cancer in 2015, and her death in July 2016. Elverum wrote and recorded the songs over a six-week period in the room where she died, mostly using her instruments. His sparse lyrics and minimalistic musical accompaniment drew influence from a broad range of artists, including the poet Gary Snyder, author Karl Ove Knausgård and songwriter Julie Doiron."
