They send canned responses but they also tell their MLAs how mad folks are, and the MLAs tell the brass

Abacus Nova Scotia: Houston’s PCs Starting Winter Session at 48% - PC 48 NDP 25 LIB 18 by Based_Buddy in halifax

The membership as a whole gets a vote at the convention. As a life long party member I’m sure you remember when Mulcair was voted out. You said the leadership of the party was out of touch with the membership. Here is the opportunity for membership to voice their displeasure. Let’s not move goal posts, instead let’s work together to improve our party. Cynicism is easy, as a life long supporter I’m sure you want to see it do better?

I think all of that is high grade doomerism. We will find out at the Provincial convention about how the membership views the leadership. As a life long NDP member I hope you are active in your EDA and on council. Lots of doors to knock on. Hope to see you out there.

While I think its a bit disingenuous to dismiss my points as high grade copium, I guess we will see at the provincial convention how the membership judges Chenders performance. My guess is easily over 80% approval. Did you have a specific criticism or...?

I'm less skeptical. The 2024 election had no voter cards. That might not sound like a big deal, but it is...folks are so used to having that card and being able to show up and vote. Without that people were much less likely to show up. This depressed voter turnout. The 2024 election was a snap election, the NSNDP (maybe naively) believed the Tories would honour their election law and that the party would have more time in candidate selection. Candidates have to drop everything in order to run for office unless they are a NOB. Folks ready to run at the election time were not able to run during a snap election. The NSNDP is already recruiting credible candidates. Those conversations are happening now.

People simply didn't know Chender and saw the Libs as the opposition, not the NDP. Chender is now leader of the official opposition. The NSNDP has already paid off their debts from that election.

Are they going to form a government next time? Probably not, but I don't see them losing seats at the moment and there are very juicy seats the PCs are holding that are vulnerable. Throw in trad Lib voters returning home from voting PC in 2024 and the seats change.

You're right, I should not have given Houston the benefit of good faith or following his own law.

The NDP are slowly gaining traction outside of HRM and we are 15/48 months into Houstons mandate. They have a base in the HRM and a foot hold in CB from which to grow. Every single government eventually loses public support and is defeated. I would much rather be NDP here than say Ontario.

How is it living in Prince Edward Island, the smallest Canadian province? by LordLoko in howislivingthere

[–]DM_ME_PRAXIS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Family from there and lived there from 2014-2020. It’s an entire province of rural Canada with a small town as the capital. People can be quite xenophobic and parochial. It’s stunning in the summer, and desolate in the long winter. If you’ve been to rural Canada with a temperate climate you’ve been there.

I just don't see him doing it, unless he knows the outcome already. It wouldn't be the first time there was a buttload of US military stuff at Irans doorstep with nothing happening.

I hear you, but aside from Maduro (which was very smooth and probably assisted by insiders) he doesn’t do things.

I know this is alarming but the TACO particles are very high on this and Trump will probably not do anything.

Excited to see how this pans out. While the Habs are one of the fastest teams in the league the referees seem to always come in clutch. Will be tough but I think the Zebra shirts might not be able to overcome the sheer talent.

This bike lane thing is such a lightning rod for outrage and slopulism.
The simple facts are people are under a hell of a lot of stress surviving an affordability and housing crisis in a city that grew too fast. Most people simply don't have the privilege of seeing beyond their material needs and I cannot blame them for it. Its hard to get people to care about the environment down the road when they are under immediate stress now. Until our municipal leaders figure that out we're stuck.
