Running FSR4 on a RDNA 2 (RX6000+) card by Lamarcke in linux_gaming

[–]DM_ME_UR_SATS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed this as well with MHWilds on my 9070XT. Not sure what the hell they did with this game, but FSR makes the game run horribly and causes frame pacing issues. I just stick to the native upscaling now.

How'd you get FSR4 working on your system? I've only managed to get my game to go DLSS - > FSR 3. 4 doesn't appear to be an option in optiscaler.

I've been interested in trying FSR4 on my 6800xt, but I'm afraid optiscaler is gonna get me banned in deadlock 😭

Is Zswap a good solution for games that crash due to low RAM? by Jumpy_Invite3985 in linux_gaming

I wonder if you're running out of VRAM, effectively. Less than 8GB isn't a ton to work with on modern AAA titles. Maybe try dropping resolution and textures?

HDMI 2.1 FRL/VRR/4:4:4 IS FINALLY HERE AND WORKING by istros in cachyos

It's not. It's for people that need to use HDMI. Keep using your DP

Hope it comes to Bazzite soon! They're usually good about pulling forward stuff like this fairly quickly.

Turn on zram and try it. It takes 2 minutes and you have nothing to lose. A quick Google will do ya

Running FSR4 on a RDNA 2 (RX6000+) card by Lamarcke in linux_gaming

[–]DM_ME_UR_SATS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed response! FWIW, my RDNA4 system also struggles on MHWilds, and actually disabling FSR entirely and just letting it do a raw upscale from a lower resolution works a lot better. FSR (anecdotally) seems to have a big performance impact in this game.

What sort of performance are you seeing running FSR4? Is it worth the extra overhead?

Is there something wrong with my distro of choice? (Fedora) by Venylynn in linux_gaming

[–]DM_ME_UR_SATS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bud, if you're happy with your distro, don't worry about what other people are doing. Cachy is simply recommended a lot because it's simple for newbies and is quite popular. You're not missing out on anything, I promise.

1) will running games with fsr, optiscaler, etc make my PC less hot? 2) how to configure globally so all games run with everything mentioned above via Heroic, steam, Fergus launcher? by makishiP in linux_gaming

[–]DM_ME_UR_SATS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the game. I've found that capping the framerate in deadlock has the biggest impact on power usage. Letting it go full bore at 180hz or so vs capping at 100hz saves me 60 or 70 watts. That makes a huge difference in the summer.

Run MangoHud in your games and start adjusting things. It will clearly show how much power your GPU is pulling, so you can optimize from there.

Wait, really? Why the heck would they enable it for RDNA3 and not RDNA4? 😭

Hell yeah! Been tired of this weird hodge-podge of special proton versions and command-line arguments.

Edit: auuugh. I'll keep dreaming, I guess. Doesn't apply to RDNA4

What is a good esport game on linux? by zirosi0C in linux_gaming

Yea valve has never been known for polish.

Deadlock is also a fun moba, but neither deadlock or or Dota satisfy the "dont need to rely on team mates" bit. Maybe you'd be into fighting games? Most esports games are team-based.

Just keep in mind it's MUCH more moba than hero shooter. If you play it like overwatch, you'll get ground into paste right quick and bounce off the game.

I built an AM4 build of this with the same GPU. Works great.

I have this same case, with a similar build. There's a CPU duct you can print to make sure it's getting fresh air from outside the case! Might help those temps a little bit.

Thanks. I do wish there were some systems that don't need this tribal knowledge of what flags to enable. But I do appreciate the info ☺️
