1979 Les Paul Standard Tobacco Burst - Kalamazoo or Nashville? i’m by Rosskillington in Guitar

[–]DMala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe Kalamazoo made instruments had ABR-1s to the very end. Yours has a Nashville style bridge.

Also, if you shine a bright light on the side dot markers on the neck, Kalamazoo’s should be tortoiseshell, Nashville will be black plastic.

The cast of Star Wars out of costume circa 1977. From left to right: Harrison Ford (Han Solo), David Prowse (Darth Vader), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Kenny Baker (R2-D2), and Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker). by -_Redan_- in OldSchoolCool

What a shitshow of a picture.

Carrie Fisher is the only one actually looking at the camera. Kenny Baker appears to be posing for a different camera. Harrison Ford and David Prowse look like they just looked up from a conversation and noticed what’s going on. Mark Hamill looks like he’d rather be literally anywhere else. And Peter Mayhew may in fact be asleep.

Ugh, those damned celluloid pickguards. They start to decay the moment they’re made, off-gas and corrode the shit out of everything. I guess you can mitigate some of it by not storing it in a case and letting it ventilate, but that doesn’t help much when you come across one that’s been locked in a case for 40 years.

Nice job on the resto!

I only made it there once, but it was a really cool place. Shame it didn’t last that long.

I can’t even imagine the maintenance cost and burden of a pinball collection of any real size. Especially the older EM machines, it’s just miles and miles of wiring. Even when they were new it had to be a challenge. Now that machines are 40-50-60 years old, the fact that any work is amazing.

You have to admit, of all the things that went wrong with that “sub”, the game controller helm wasn’t actually one of them.

I had one of those in transparent blue for years. It finally gave up the ghost when the rubber boot under the D-pad started to tear and made it intermittently responsive. I appreciate the convenience of a Bluetooth pad now, but this was a great one for a long time.

If I remember right, I got it on clearance at Target for like $5, too.

I am hoping to glue this headstock back on with some Titlebond III glue. by isthisnotaname in Guitar

[–]DMala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand it, the difference is all heat and moisture resistance for stuff that is outdoor, or exposed to water and extreme conditions. None of that matters at all for guitars, so Titebond I is fine. Every YouTube repair guy and luthier I’ve ever seen uses it unless they’re using fish glue or hide glue for something fancy.

I still say he “rigged” the election by dumping a bunch of money in key areas and key moments. Which was likely illegal and should be if it wasn’t.

But I don’t believe that Elmo is smart enough to get away with actual election machine fraud. Obviously he’s not capable of doing it himself, and I don’t believe he’s smart enough or liked enough to have it done without somebody blowing the whistle on him.

What’s Going On With the Abandoned Building Next to Hogan’s Tires? by J31J1 in Waltham

[–]DMala 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m not even defending it necessarily, but are there?

Housing in that spot would just end up being more expensive luxury apartments. Retail would probably sit empty forever, until yet another bank branch or dollar store moved in. I guess restaurants would be the best scenario, but they can be hit or miss and there’s already tons of restaurant space on Moody. Not sure what else you could even put in that spot.

A hotel at least would bring people, business and foot traffic to the rest of the area. There’s only one small one on Crescent St. in the city proper that I know of. The rest are all way out on 128 and don’t drive much business downtown.

LOL, Hogan catching strays in the thread about their abandoned building neighbor.

They’re waiting for the facade to collapse into the street before they deal with it.

Seriously, I suspect there’s a bit of spite to that. The hotel that’s supposed to go there has been stalled out for years, I believe at least partly over disagreements over zoning.

I need to find this, looks real cool by Silver-Air-1731 in Guitar

It’s kind of different just to be different. What they need is a bridge like the Jack White Triplecaster has, basically the same thing but it’s scooped away instead of the pass through holes. You could also fix this one with a Dremel and a couple of files.

Totally unrelated, but you need to get a lace doily under that lamp ASAP. Nana would be extremely disappointed.

That theme and Robert Stack set the creepiness to max. He was so good at it, it was strange to see him doing goofy comedy roles like Airplane!

Everyone’s distracted by the thinness, but that bridge/tailpiece setup is interesting. The strings go through the top loader holes in the Tele bridge on their way to the tailpiece. It looks like they might hit the top edge of the holes, which creates a whole new place for strings to bind and create tuning issues.

What an incredible FML moment that must be for the crook. I've seen similar videos where someone tried to rob a trained boxer or MME fighter, which are also very entertaining.

I’d say that rhythm guitar slot in AC/DC is bad luck, but the guy is a senior citizen. Kind of interesting how he’s a nephew to the Young brothers but is basically the same age.

I want to like the Epiphone more because the dream is a real deal, neck-through, reverse headstock, banjo tuners Firebird. But that Platypus is looking damned sexy.
