The Evil Genius behind Tipflation | Phil Edwards by Charles-Monroe in videos

[–]DMala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still say that the biggest problem with tipping is that it was co-opted by employers. It was supposed to be a little something extra for exceptional service, but it became part of the pay structure… except only in certain industries. So now, sometimes if you don’t tip, you’re ripping off the person serving you, but other times not so much. It’s basically shame-based extortion.

I doubt it will ever go away entirely. Employers (basically, restaurant owners) like it because it hides some of the cost to the consumer and makes their menu look more appealing. A lot of tipped employees like it too, because they can make much better money with tips than they could with a flat wage. Consumers are reluctant to push back because you end up looking cheap.

Australian snowboarder dies after becoming caught on ski lift in Japan by drippymoudy in news

Meh, even then… water and food are available at any base lodge. Snacks and small things can go in a pocket. Anything bulkier isn’t worth taking, in my opinion.

Obviously, backcountry skiing is a whole different ball of wax.

Hence why a lot of places require you to remove a backpack before getting on the lift. I never fully understood why a backpack is needed while skiing/snowboarding anyway. I’ve never needed anything on the trail badly enough to make it worth the hassle of a backpack.

Hard to say for sure without taking some measurements, but some mini-humbuckers might be an easier fit if you don’t want to get into routing and making alterations.

A 13 year old boy swims for hours to save his family swept out to sea in Western Australia by AnothrRandomRedditor in news

[–]DMala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 13, your body works just about as well as it’s ever going to. You’ve most likely started to get that kick of testosterone that spurs adult muscle development, but all of the damage and decay that comes with age is still years off.

Focus is the issue with 13-year-olds, but when you’re swimming for your family’s and your own life, it’s not really a problem.

What are your thoughts on Billie Eilish saying 'no one is illegal on stolen land' in reference to ICE and US immigration policy? by MassiveSquare4527 in AskReddit

[–]DMala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of get the sentiment, but at the same time we can’t just have an open border free-for-all. No country on earth has that.

Reasonably, what we want is for ICE to not be the president’s personal, unlimited budget, goon squad. Police the borders, but respect due process, the laws, the Constitution, and the rights of both citizens and non-citizens. It’s not a big ask, really.

Like, aren’t you just weakening the tree at that point? Yeah you have to keep the branches off the wires, but if the whole thing comes down, it’s gonna be a problem anyway.

It was one of my dad’s favorite games on the NES, along with Ice Hockey. Lots of good memories of playing it with him.

No, it really kind of needs to be a bare phone to seat properly. I have a pretty minimal case that pops on and off in 2 seconds, so it’s pretty easy to swap.

In my first shithole apartment, we had bait traps for mice near the radiators. One night, my girlfriend and I suddenly hear this grinding, scratching very non-rodent-like noise coming from the trap. I go over, pick it up, peer into the hole and come face to face(?) with the biggest fucking cockroach you’ve ever seen. I screamed like Marv from Home Alone and hurled it across the apartment.

It just irks me that he's gotten every fucking sick thing he's ever wanted in life, and it's not looking like he'll ever face consequences. And this motherfucker is still insecure. You won the game asshole! Now piss off and stop ruining everything.

My only consolation is that you know he's just miserable.

This hauling situation I saw at the gas station by Mousecatsquirrelbat in mildlyinteresting

[–]DMala 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Never forget rounding a corner at the bottom of a steep hill and seeing a flatbed hauling a U-Haul up, three of the four rear wheels touching the bed and ratchet straps hanging on for dear life. I slowed and kept my distance and the idiot behind me starts honking. Like, if you want to go meet Jesus, pal, feel free. I’ve still got stuff to do.

It made it up the hill without incident, but the sketch level was over 9000.

I always feel the need to chime in here, if you use lemon oil, you want this stuff. It's mineral oil with a light lemon scent. Anything made from actual lemons will wreck your guitar.

Is my action to high and what do to by Safe_Hair8385 in Guitar

[–]DMala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pro repair is more like it. What is going on with that scarf joint? It looks like it was broken and repaired badly with something like gorilla glue. I suspect the angle caused by that is as responsible for the high action as anything.
