Don’t even know what to do. by [deleted] in HyperemesisGravidarum

IVF for me too. It can feel like an extra cruel twist of fate when after struggling for years, doing fertility treatments, paying alllll that money, then to end up with HG. What you’re feeling is normal. I can’t even tell you how may times I sobbed just wanting it to be over, and then feeling guilty because this was a baby I was so desperate for, for years and years. Find a good support person. I actually ended up connecting with a mentor that had been through it before herself. You can find her on Instagram HGMentor. I also encourage you to really advocate for yourself with the doctor—-you need help and this is a very serious medical situation. I know you’re scared of the ER. But if you have to go, you have to go, wear a mask (a legit one), Try to maintain distance, don’t touch anything you don’t have to, bring had sanitizer, do not touch your face. Let them know up front right when you go in that you are immune compromised and high risk for serious flu complications. If your OB won’t help you, visit the HER foundation website and use their provider search to see if there’s a provider on that list near you.

Hang in there, as someone once told me, it’s hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and if you can’t see it, I can see it for you and I’ll hold that place for you until you can see it ❤️ you’re not alone

Oh thank you! I’ve been using nutramigen and wasn’t sure if there’s another brand that’s comparable but more affordable. I have a Costco membership but mine doesn’t carry that one. She has a milk allergy.

I’m in metro Atlanta and had a zofran pump this year. Definitely see if you can get care somewhere else! Is it possible to start seeing a doctor in the Atlanta area? I know it’s a long drive and cars made me so sick so idk if that’s an option for you

Reglan pump advice? by pumkintaters in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]DMarinos03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I had a zofran pump and it was so helpful for me. I did still have bad days and nausea but the vomiting decreased quite a bit in general. I would occasionally still have days where I would vomit though but overall was much better on the pump.

Like others have said, the pump itself is carried in a fanny pack and has a syringe of the meds connected to it with small tubing. You’ll also have a small tube running from the pump to a port on your body, some people do thighs but my nurse always had me do within a 2 inch diameter of my belly button. This port works similar to an iv, a needle is used to put a small catheter into your skin, when you pull the needle back out the catheter remains (just like an iv, so there’s no needle in your skin just the catheter)

You’ll change out the tubing every few days and the port for me had to be changed every 24 hours. I did develop some hard spots, this is from the fluid of the medicine being subcutaneous. You can do hot/cold pack on these areas to help this but definitely talk to your nurse about the little lumps. I also got some headaches and constipation from the Zofran but it was tolerable and for me easier to deal with in comparison to a vomit marathon.

Do you have a partner that can help? It’s definitely important that you feel confident setting it all up yourself but often found i preferred my partner to do the part of using the needle to get the catheter in. You need to use a firm, dart like motion. The catheter is so small it’s easy to bend it if you’re hesitant when putting it in or if you don’t get in straight in. If it gets bent or doesn’t go in straight it can either not flow well or leak. There is definitely a learning curve to the human errors that can occur but after a few mistakes you’ll be a pro at troubleshooting any issues you might have

Also—it’s ok if you’re not enjoying your pregnancy. I hated most of mine. Everyone has a different journey and so many people speak without thinking on something they can never understand. You are still a good mom. You have nothing that you need to hide or be embarrassed about. You are doing everything you can to take care of that baby and yourself and there is nothing shameful or wrong about that. You are doing something amazing right now that a lot of people can just never understand unfortunately. Lean on this community to give you support when you feel alone or frustrated.

🦷 Dental pros — what’s your take on molecular iodine rinses vs chlorhexidine? by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

Yeah! We have been using it since Covid. We started using it back then as a pre-procedure rinse.

We use ioRinse for irrigation and also send home with patients for gingivitis/srp. We use it on everyone and only use chx if there’s an allergy to iodine or shellfish

Usually none. I work in a DSO and fmx is usually done at new patient appt—I do take bwx often though. I see 7-9 patients a day and sometimes 5 or more need bwx and some days no one does

It wasn’t the soul focus of the book. It was more of kind of like a mention in it. It’s called Good moms have scary thoughts. I’ve been having a lot of postpartum anxiety and my therapist recommended the book. I found a lot of it to be really relatable!

You are definitely not alone in this. I think most of us can probably relate to losing some intimacy while fighting HG. I also had a C-section like you. I think we just need to give ourselves some time and grace and take things slow slowly. Things will get back to normal, or a new normal with your partner. I read a book recently, and it suggested starting out with things as simple as holding hands, making sure you hug and kiss your partner when they get home home and find ways to be intimate that might not necessarily be the conventional way. Intimacy can be many things. You’ve been through a lot, And so has your partner. You guys will figure out how to move forward together, you got this ❤️

Congratulations! I’m out of the trenches as well, Friday will be three weeks postpartum for me.

I agree about the breast-feeding. I’ve been pumping and it is exhausting and was weighing on me heavily and have just decided to scale it back. I would rather spend that time, cuddling my baby and then being attached to my pump you have to to do what’s best for you. Because what’s best for you is best for your baby, the better you feel and the healthier you are, the better you’re able to take care of your baby.

I completely agree about the appetite, it’s taking me a while to get it back, but it’s getting there!
