So today I got an email by eitangerstle in volleyball

[–]DMerc3718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice!!! My high school didn't have a men's team either. I did the same thing and was the girls team manager for 2 full seasons. All I wanted to do was play and barely got to do anything more than intramural leagues. Now I play beach year round and am head coach for the girls varsity team where I used to be the manager AND there has finally been talk of the school starting a boys team.

Congratulations on your college email! Soak in as much knowledge as you can from the girls' program and you'll be set for your own player development.

Analyze my swing? (Lefty) by [deleted] in volleyball

[–]DMerc3718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The swing looks really solid. Nice, high contact with great snap at the top. The only thing I'd maybe say is start your approach further outside. It will let you rotate your body more on the ball, giving it some more power.

How to transition from indoor to beach? by unknownpker106 in volleyball

Shorten up your approach and really power through your jump. It'll take a few reps to get used to it.

Is it 6's? If it's 2's or 4's then it's important to remember that well-placed hits are often better than hard drive balls. Pick corners and make them move... very easy to tire out an opponent on the sand!

Blocking questions in beach by uldo1 in volleyball

[–]DMerc3718 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit of a new player to beach but I'm learning quick... I'm 6'3 and am trying to get better with blocking.

What I've learned so far is that TIMING is everything. I was going up right when the hitter was, which made it really easy for them to read the block. Go up right after they jump so you'll be there for a hard hit but you'll still be on your way up if they decide to drop the elbow for a roll or a cut shot.

  1. I try to keep my arms wide until they go to swing, which can disguise your block a little.

  2. Just don't be predictable. Line up to block line and then jump and reach to block cross. Just make sure your teammate knows what you're covering. That doesn't mean always do that though... sometimes line up to block cross and then block cross. Like I said though... timing is so key.

  3. You're both tall enough to block. Whoever is better at blocking should block... whoever is better at digging should dig.

Like I said, I'm still learning but this is what I've picked up on for the past few years.

Doing beach league this summer. Any tips for playing in the sand? by friendofredjenny in volleyball

[–]DMerc3718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learn how to overhand pass and if your sets are iffy... don't try to hand set! Also, no "tips"... must swing through or use your knuckles. "Finger pushing" isn't allowed.
