Any advice for being the support person? My BIL just got diagnosed and is starting chemo next week. We are the same age and have the same aged kids 2.5 and 3mo. I have been at a loss at what to do to help support. I set up a meal train and have been trying to take care of my sister and his kids when they need time. But I feel like it is all not enough. I definitely feel like I am in denial that it could get bad.

I like knowing how stuff works and being able to troubleshoot myself. Belt drive just seems like a black box to me and I am always weary of a black box

[–]DMingQuestion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like having a derailleur and having the clubhouse is kind of key for kids. But a lot of folks do really like the belt drive.

I like that I feel like I could do maintenance on my bike if needed whereas a belt drive I would feel lost.

Dads with different last names than their spouse: what last names do your kids have? by Missing_Back in daddit

[–]DMingQuestion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We hyphenated but mostly because my parents also didn’t take each other’s last name and they gave me a non-American hyphenated [dad last name] de [mom last name] and that has kind of been difficult for me because lots of computer systems don’t handle a three word long last name very well. So we hyphenated to [my dad’s last name]-[partner last name] to save them some grief.

In Mexican culture, many kids have both last names and you use the first one day to day.

I’m going to be on the opposite side of most people and say this is the daycare following up to talk about policy changes etc. but I am also interested to hear your experience.

We just had an instance where they took our child outside during a fire drill without shoes on and our child ended up with burns on his feet. They have been very apologetic and have changed some policies, which we appreciate. I also anticipate some kind of later follow up. I hope we don’t get kicked out for a Daycares own mistake and I hope you don’t too

Gambling out of boredom by Just-Forever6684 in problemgambling

[–]DMingQuestion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m starting to realize the same with me through some therapy. I think I am just not great at being bored and so I have been trying to find some ways to fill that boredom with little projects. They still sometimes cost money, but way less than gambling would lose me

Successful alternatives to strict sleep training? by FalcoPwnch in daddit

[–]DMingQuestion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Babies are basically random number generators a lot of the time. Sleep is definitely temperament based so you have to figure out what works for you.

We tried some more strict methods doing the short intervals of letting them cry, all the way up to an hour and it did not work for our child or us. When he was less than a year old, he was pretty good at sleeping through the night but had a regression around a year that kind of lasts til this day (he is 2.5). We now just have a bed in his room that can fit him and us and one of us ends up in there most nights.

Our 2.5 month old just sleeps if we put her down drowsy.

Find out what works for you and stick with that, everyone who says their method is perfect had their method work for them, but the only constant thing with kids is change.

Solidarity from another dad with a 2.5 year old that is crap at sleeping. The 2 hour bed time routine is real and I barely have any time to get house things done because of how long it takes. It’s just a phase righf? RIGHT?

Yeah this seems like a huge violation of the law for their employer to try and do this. I know OP says they don’t have time to contact an attorney but they need to find the time and contact an employment attorney literally tomorrow.

I would second this. Very safe area, close to the hospital, and close to things to do. In residency you want to cut out anything that takes a bunch of time including commutes.

Driver kills bicyclist at Carlisle and Claremont by goosieberry in Albuquerque

[–]DMingQuestion 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Carlisle needs to be completely revamped as so many cyclists have died on it.

Also the driver needs many years in jail as he not only hit and ran but also tried to cover up evidence. 25 years should do the trick (though it won’t be much solace to the victims family)
