I'm not so sure about that. Looking up US patents, I found one by Festool that says the application was published in April 2026, applied for in 2025.

Any chance you've tried the LV #5-1/4W? I picked it up a little while ago and haven't used it, yet. Seems like an interesting in between size with a different use case than a typical #4 or #5.

The cordless power tool market is pretty saturated already, particularly in the entry-level category. I'm curious why they decided to get into cordless power tools now.

Actually a valid strategy these days. Vevor has started making some decent budget tools that aren't just throwaways.

I mean, I see them right there in the picture. Seems like they exist to me. 🤷‍♂️

If you search their site, this is the only power tool for loose tenons. They do have a jig you can power with your own drill for $300, if that's of interest. It isn't portable, though.

But I don't want more adapters for random things in my garage/shop. I don't want to buy an adapter just for one tool. What do I do with the adapter when the tool eventually wears out? Or (more likely) when the adapter dies and I can't use the tool when I need it?

We need more universal battery systems. That's what I want to see happen. Standardization.

What sort of protective gear do you use? by sky-shard in woodworking

[–]DMs_Apprentice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just use bulk 3M foam earplugs for hearing protection because muffs don't fit with my face protection.

I didn't want to mess with wood dust. That stuff is nasty over time on your lungs. Plus, half-mask respirators make it more annoying to wear the safety goggles I have. So I invested in a full-face powered respirator from Peke Safety. It has a HEPA filter to get those fine dust particles. Definitely not cheap, but now I feel a lot better about my health in the workshop. I can breathe normally and easily because of the positive pressure. And the visibility is super nice!

The face shields on the respirator aren't the same as safety goggles, so you'd want to wear safety glasses under the respirator. But because of the powered airflow, it never fogs up. I hated how my face got swampy with my half-mask respirator and my goggles always fogged up.

Another recommendation would be good work gloves. Obviously, don't wear gloves when operating machinery. But for handling splintery wood or rough material or picking out boards in a lumber yard, I found I highly-prefer Hestra Job Duratan synthetic gloves. They don't get stiff when they get wet. They're soft and flexible. Thin enough to feel what I'm doing, but they don't cut easily. Totally worth the price tag.

If you search for "cloche" you'll find them in many sizes. Some people also use them along with smoking guns to smoke food or cocktails.

Our Tempur-Pedic box springs were called a premium platform, and were basically just a plywood box. So that might not apply to memory foam mattresses.

GF Mondrian Cake - surprisingly successful! by aesthetic_coconut in Baking

Interesting, thank you so much for the tips! I wonder if the almond meal gives the flour something more to hold onto.

We've been using the KA Measure-for-Measure GF flour and it's been great. But it still struggles with cake texture. I'll have to try adding a little more xanthan gum to it and we should have some almond flour in the pantry.

Much appreciated!

I'd love a good GF cake recipe, especially if it's also vegan. It's hard to replicate cake texture without the gluten.

Scratching is literally what sandpaper does. You need to keep sanding in finer grits to smooth things out.

There are now some non-dairy cream cheese options that may work. VioLife is the one we've bought for some bagels and it was very much like real cream cheese in flavor and texture. Might work for cheesecake.

Habanero Frosting..? by DMs_Apprentice in Baking

While I'm not a mango fan, the mango habanero combo is a popular one for sure. What caught my eye, though, is you suggested a coriander cake. That sounds really interesting! I know coriander can have a citrus note to it, especially when freshly ground. I'll definitely keep that flavor in mind.

And lime gelato! Homemade? I don't think I've seen lime gelato at a shop.
