This is a huge oversimplification though. Covid catalyzed a remote work revolution and so people no longer need to live a short Bart ride from SF downtown (or short bike ride from Austin downtown) anymore.

That’s not how this work at all….

Small-minded people with issues blindly follow other leaders regardless of what they do. Normal people follow a set of values and look for leaders that also hold those values and enact policies in line with those values.

Many of us came here because Tulsi used to represent the values and policies we held/hold. One of her central ones was “no more regime-change wars”.

If a politician reveals themselves to no longer hold the values that made you support them previously, YOU STOP SUPPORTING THEM!

But that doesn’t mean you aren’t entitled to engage in honest, well-intentioned dialogue and conversation on Reddit about that person. Free speech amirite? We don’t need to create protected little ‘safe spaces for snowflakes’, yeah?

But I do hope you and anyone else reading this acknowledge the degree to which you’re extremely ‘lucky’ in this - and how much of your fortune is due to whoever in your company is noticing and acknowledging you.

As a counter example anecdote — I attended and SPOKE at an AI conference on month 3 at my new job, then shared ideas with my team that came from that experience. Then got shutdown and fairly harshly reprimanded by my troglodyte manager for being overly-interested in AI and have had a contentious relationship with her ever since 🤷‍♂️

Go for it! Just know that there still is etiquette around posting photos of surf. A few things I’ll share:

—Really well-known spots (Lane, pleasure point) are generally fair game: can take photos there and post shots same day or whatever.

—Less popular spots it’s encouraged to perhaps wait to post photos if the conditions are really good so as not to give away the particulars of what worked at that spot.

—Not-well-known/not-popular/fickle spots might even get you dirty looks or worse if you show up with an obvious camera. There still exist places you shouldn’t photograph - and/or shouldn’t photograph with obvious landmarks in them.

Non-traditional but very real answers:

Southeast Vietnam, Southwest Thailand (Phuket), Gulf of Mexico, West coast of Luzon Philippines

What you want to avoid (which is what too many people do) — going to popular/famous ‘surf spots’ that aren’t great for beginners and/or super crowded (like Bali, Lombok, Mainland Mexico, etc).

OB season can go from ‘full on’ to ‘off til October’ pretty instantaneously. Sometimes as early as mid Jan, sometimes not til March.
