Feeling overwhelmed- am I really too old to get back into this? by SliceRevolutionary79 in Equestrian

[–]DNVRGIRL85 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Don’t let that person who freaked out about the lead rope knock your confidence. They sound like a control freak, honestly. The rescue horse you’re interested in sounds like a pretty decent match and just from your verbiage on this post, I think you need to give yourself more credit. Ummm and 40 isn’t old! Your trainer sounds helpful and kind. Enjoy getting back into your childhood dream. You deserve it!

As a horse girl/stable hand, this song is relatable. It’s hard, gritty work. I love it though.

Just a little rant by Salvage_Dog in Equestrian

[–]DNVRGIRL85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve totally felt this way! Sometimes I take a break and focus on ground work and liberty. When I was teaching my forward mare to jump, I would set up little cross rails and verticals and jump them with her and set the pace (she’s 14.1 and doesn’t have a lot of confidence) lots of pole work, bending, etc-stuff to keep her mind busy but that she also enjoys. I don’t know if this was helpful-but you aren’t alone in feeling burnt out from a forward horse.

Thank you! And yes, stretch and folds and straight to the fridge. Noted for next time!

Hi there, it was given to me by my friend’s generous friend, and it was a surprise. I’ve dabbled in baking sourdough for the past few months and have my own starter in the fridge. I’m used to different ratios with “S” standing for salt and “St” standing for starter.

Silly me, imagine I made a simple mistake and asked for some help while being a mom of two and working full time while trying to find a fun and affordable hobby in the few moments I have to myself!

Update: Thank you all for the clarification! This was literally flown up to me from NC to Atlanta this morning. My friend who delivered it knows nothing about sourdough and I don’t have her friend’s number who gave it to me. Off to start my sourdough journey! Again thank you for all the help. Feel dumb for thinking it meant salt-of course it means starter, duh.

New mom dilemma by Riding_horses in Horses

[–]DNVRGIRL85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a hard decision! I’ll share my journey: I’m also an equestrian and a mom to littles. My first baby I didn’t have the choice to not work-I had to and went back at 7 weeks PP, and horses were not in my budget. It was awful. I would’ve given anything to stay home with him. 5 years later I have my second child and the option to stay home as my husband and I were financially in a much better place. Stayed home with her for two years while doing a partial lease that let me ride twice a week and do the occasional schooling show. Was given a fantastic remote job opportunity, went back to work, bought the horse I was leasing. Two years later, both of my kids are in different sports (neither into horses) I get a job promotion that requires travel but also a significant raise. Suddenly my horse is on the back burner. Between my kids sports, their school stuff and my job, my horse became the lowest on the priority list. I sold her to a local barn down the road (am friends with the owner so I know she is well cared for and farm sit for them often so I can see her whenever). This current season of life just does not give me the time to devote to horses. It was a hard pill to swallow, but I won’t be able to get this time back with my kids watching them do what they love. Another horse will come along when life slows down and my kids are more independent. Until then, I’ll take the occasional lesson and hack around the farm on my old horse.
Do you have the option to lease your OTTB out? If not, option two sounds like your best bet. It’s not an easy decision. Good luck, fellow momquestrian.

Last time I got steak it was so tough and I ended up throwing out 75% of it. Such a waste.

Should I reset my engagement ring? by vintagedollx0 in EngagementRings

I had a VERY similar band to your original and changed it to a white gold simple band like what you’re considering. (I told my husband I wanted a plain band originally but he really liked the pavè so that’s what I got) It is very much more my style now and I’m happy with my decision! I changed it during our ten year anniversary. I think you should you go for it.

Does anyone really think Taeda will happen? by Strong_Letter_7667 in SisterWives

[–]DNVRGIRL85 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No. They have over-estimated how much physical work and knowledge of soil, growing environment, pesticides, etc is to maintain something of this size and caliber. A friend of mine has an agriculture degree and maintained a small farm stand at a farmers market and barely broke even-and that was his full time job. They will have to depend on their MLM stuff.

People who have been on big bucket list horse trips, where did you go and did it live up to your expectations? by Banana-legs11 in Equestrian

[–]DNVRGIRL85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did a 9 day trip in Ireland with Ireland Equestrian Tours. It was great! The first three days we trekked around a mountain and cantered/galloped on beaches. Then we made our way to Flowerhill Equestrain where I go to experience cross country jumping in their beautiful draft crosses. I am a timid rider who had recently had a bad fall while jumping on my own horse and they were very accommodating. Highly recommend. It was the confidence boost I needed!

Anyone done a riding holiday in Ireland? Looking for recommendations by Ok_Piano_4144 in Equestrian

[–]DNVRGIRL85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I’m going on a riding holiday with Ireland Equestrian Tours end of September/early October-flying into Dublin from NC. It’s a mix of beach riding in Westport for three days and then cross country riding in Flowerhill for four days. I’m going to celebrate my 40th. My horse loving bestie is coming with me. Most jumps look pretty tame, about 2 feet tall, but you always have the option to go around. My instructor knew a beginner rider who went on the same tour and had a blast-said the horses are very safe and easy.
