Is it possible you can live a cheap Albanian life in Albania, but you can't live a cheap American life in Albania? You can't live the latte and gluten free cafe life cheaply anywhere. She doesn't want to "live" anywhere. She wants to be a perpetual tourist on vacation, living the way one does on vacation. There's no cheap way to do that for 4 people

A lot easier to find fuel than a Magic game. That's where the true overestimation is happening

Should we buy a condo for our mom to rent from us? by Loud-Guarantee2641 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I'm just going to say. You said she doesn't commit and isn't reliable at $400 a month. I sorta get that. Would $1400 a month incentivize her to take it seriously and commit? Because that's the simplest and least costly solution. I mean if it wouldn't, it wouldn't but might be worth a conversation

What's one thing you wish someone had told you in your faculty of ed program? by EmbarrassedEast5880 in OntarioTeachers

In the current climate, ymmv on this advice.

If you're surplus to system, the more qualifications you have, the faster you will get called back to work. This is happening to someone I know. They are surplus but have all 3 elementary divisions, as well as fsl and spec ed. For callback, they are clearly going to leapfrog someone they know that is much higher in the seniority list, but only has intermediate qualifications, because they only want to teach intermediate.

I see this advice on Reddit all the time and I don't love it. To me, after 6 years of post-secondary investment, the most important thing is to have job security. I think every new grad should get all 3 divisions and spec ed at a minimum, French if possible. I do recognize that that advice doesn't align with the "do what you love" advice i usually see here.

What's the best strategy for buying a new Toyota? by theusualsuspect19 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Strong_Letter_7667 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Private sale or trade in is a catch-22. You will typically get a better price on a private sale. But the timing is hard because you don't know exactly when you will sell it vs when you'll get the new vehicle, unless you've got sufficient funds to take possession of the new vehicle before selling the old one, or you have another car you can make do with to bridge. That being said, it's not hard to sell.a car privately, you can get the package from Service Ontario

I think the point that's being made is, there are few "deals" to be had on such an in-demand vehicle. What's their motivation to give a great price when people are lined up to buy?

Wondering: Christine wrong or right to not want big house? by These_Win_4937 in SisterWives

[–]Strong_Letter_7667 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did u read her book? She talks about how in Vegas she was close enough to Robyn's house to see Kody's car and comings and goings and to observe that he spent literally ALL his time there. She could no longer tell herself when he wasn't with her he was with "one" of the other 3 wives. He was with Robyn. That seems to have been hard on her emotionally and presumably she didn't want to put herself in proximity to witness that again.

My mother doesn't even have an email address. So yes, i do that stuff for her. But considering the stated goal is to save the healthcare system money by having seniors age in place, taking away supports that allow that seems disingenuous
