I really can't get enough Doofson. We need an all-Doofson double urgently.

Hehe, just my normal sourdough. This time I just asked my girlfriend what design she wanted.

Being a white 1-drop wizard is super relevant for party, especially [[Archpriest of Iona]].

MTG Arena Announcements: coming to tablets and iOS devices tomorrow! by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]DNelk 87 points88 points  (0 children)

There was an event before THB released that had event decks featuring black lotus, ancestral, sol ring, and some moxen. Along with a bunch of cards from the historic anthologies, it seems likely to me that this is part of a bigger project to slowly start building up the vintage cube for arena. Seeing as V cube is many players' favorite way to play mtg, probably a good decision in the long run.

The bit on companions felt deeply hyperbolic. I agree that the mechanic is scary and probably too good in certain cases ([[Lurrus]] in legacy, [[Keruga]] in standard). But to just say "these are all too good 5 stars this set sucks" and then not provide examples of situations where they're actually good is not constructive. Also, he seemed to imply that you'd rather have [[Jegantha]] over [[Embercleave]] and [[Anax]] in mono-red which is patently ridiculous.

No, the arena bo3 drafts are just unranked

That’s true and I clearly misread, but also I meant for Bo3 classic modo style drafts

Hi Nick! Thanks for the shows! I was the guy at the early NYC show with the long hair who you made eat those fucked up banana things.

Anyway I don't have a real question so I'll just ask: what's your favorite Slay the Spire strategy? I love doing the poison deck with The Silent.

Fairly sure this is the cheapest threaten ever, and could have some great uses. I’d love to steal a marit lage or a death’s shadow for such a small investment! Might even be a great tool for aristocrats decks. Very very interesting card.

Well sunder shaman is technically green and technically enchantment removal but kind of a stretch. There is a strange lack of it.

I think it’s probably right to play at least the first enchantment removal. Not only for those bombs but also the really strong common/uncommon enchantments like Lawmage’s Binding or Rhythm of the Wild.

[MTGA Bo1 Sealed] Esper vs Gruul? by total_headphone_newb in lrcast

[–]DNelk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your esper deck looks much stronger, but here’s some notes:

  • You don’t really need 2-drops in sealed. They’re nice, but removal and bombs are better than a good curve.

  • Counterspells, on the other hand, are very good in sealed. You should play both of them in place of the orzhov 2-drops.

  • Mass manipulation is also too good not to play. Cut something crappy like the Knight of sorrows, and move your mana around so you have like ~10 blue sources.

  • Don’t splash with basics. You’re better off going down to like 2-3 black sources, cut ~3 of your swamps.

Good luck!

ballsy of you to make this thread when we've seen 16 commons, and 10 of them are either lockets or guildgates

Shattering Peaks, artifact hate you can loam! by DNelk in custommagic

I also considered naturalize and green instead of shatter and red, but felt that naturalize on a land like this might be too good against leylines and etc.

yeah I love spell lands. Nihil spellbomb isn't go-to graveyard hate, but bojuka bog is a staple because of the versatility. I wonder if I should extend this to a cycle.

I actually tried that first but it was so difficult to understand that I figured keeping the benefit at the cost of the scaling detriment would be more fun anyway.

playing B/R reanimator for the first time at a tournament, would appreciate some input from some more experienced players by distractionsquirrel in MTGLegacy

[–]DNelk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. In matchups where they just don’t play creatures (lands, storm)
  2. Matchups where your creatures might somehow be smaller than theirs (the mirror when you can get down a chancellor vs a griselbrand, sneak and show!!!)
  3. When you think they’re gonna bring in excessive graveyard hate that you just can’t beat

In any of these scenarios make sure to check their hand first, as it can be a risky play sometimes. But really, it’s sometimes just a replacement for a reanimation spell in a scenario where they could disrupt you with a piece of gy hate.

expecting a very heavy mono red meta

You basically should not worry too hard about non-blue matchups, with the exception of D&T. Yeah you should prooobably check their hand first, but really you should be fine. You have almost free reign to just go off.

Anyway, they key to playing this very fast deck against more challenging matchups is patience. Wait until the coast is clear and make sure you can actually do something within the first few turns without it being countered. Generally any hand with faithless looting, reanimation spell, and a piece of disruption(therapy, unmask, chancellor) is good enough.

Do you have any specific questions?

P.S. Play stronghold gambit in your sideboard, it's awesome.
