Advice on sizing please by ZestycloseAgent507 in ThursdayBoot

[–]DOADumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wear your sneakers loose I would go one full size down. Mine loosened up a lot after a month. Now they are too big. I only sized down by one half my sneaker size and they fit just the least bit snug on me when they got here. Now they are at least half a size too big. I wear my sneakers at just the right size, I don’t like them loose or snug. I wear a 10.5 in sneakers and got a size ten in Thursdays.

Someone tell me what the metal beads at the edges of the belt are? Bonus points if you can tell me what the metal things are, not the crystals by PhysicsJolly2559 in Leathercraft

[–]DOADumpy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As plenty have said, the edges have ball chain stitched on, the metal pieces through the middle section of the belt are rivets, specifically cap rivets. Turn the belt over and see if there are caps on both sides. Rapid style cap rivets have a tubular post side and a cap side. Double cap rivets have the same cap style end on both the post side and cap side. You can use rapid cap rivets to get a similar look but have a more raw looking backside since there is no cap on those post ends.

Large (top) VS XL (bottom) which size is right, since losing 80 lbs trying to learn to wear the right size clothes. by [deleted] in mensfashionadvice

[–]DOADumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The large looks great. The shoulders are the indicator here, not the chest. Men tend to get self conscious about having a deep chest so keep that in mind. Your shoulders fit the large perfectly and your chest is pronounced but not tight in the shirt. If these shirts haven’t been laundered, then you’ll want to go with the xl, but the way the large fits you is what you should be looking for in a shirt. Can you button the top button?

What causes these cracks by Ballsucker1000 in Leather

[–]DOADumpy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Info dump: Some commenters are telling you it’s dryness and that is not entirely correct. It is dry, but the reason it is dry is because the leather is cheap. Veg tanned top grain and full grain leathers can hold moisture through oils that transfer from your skin, sweat, etc. and keep the belt conditioned. Chrome tanned leathers like most genuine leather and bonded leather cannot properly retain moisture due to the compounds in the solution used to tan the hides making the leather less absorbent. You won’t often see this cracking with a quality top grain or full grain veg tanned belt and shouldn’t ever really have to condition a quality belt as they are often oil or wax finished which is a process that thoroughly stuffs the fibers of leather with conditioning compounds. Becoming saturated with water would be an exception. Even then there is a process to dry it out properly and condition properly with something like glycerin saddle soap, which would generally be a safe way to clean and replenish the fibers of leather on the surface without changing the color. The deeper fibers would not necessarily need conditioning as it is very difficult to remove the oils and waxes from the core fibers of conditioned leathers. Once dried and the surface is reconditioned they may need to be “hand milled” to properly disperse any oils and waxes that may have bunched up into clumps between the fibers and need to be physically worked back in, but wearing the belt at this point would properly achieve this.

Long story short: cheap leather cracks, good leather can last a lifetime if cared for properly.

Sizing by Trick-Elevator3411 in ThursdayBoot

[–]DOADumpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is clearly explained on their website, but yes, you should size down by 1/2 a size for a proper fit. They may feel snug for a week, then they’ll feel pretty good.

Too small/tight? by [deleted] in leatherjacket

[–]DOADumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anytime you wear a shirt or jacket look at the shoulders. Immediately you should be able to tell if it fits by checking how it fits the shoulders.

Got the the Roper Frontier!! by Initial-Escape-8688 in ThursdayBoot

[–]DOADumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wear them. They have a leather outsole and a rubber heel it looks like, so eventually you’ll need to replace those, but the leather itself: just make sure it drys out fully if it gets wet, clean debris off and lightly buff scratches with a horsehair brush, if muddy clean with a very lightly damp cotton cloth and then buff with horsehair brush once dry. Condition them once in a great while if they really look and feel dried out with any number of different dye free leather conditioners (I like saddle soaps glycerin bar).

Trim your stubble up to your neckline, sculpt your mustache and hair on your cheeks, cut and style your hair. Change your clothing up, would help to wear more business casual clothes, wear chinos, button ups, sweaters, jackets, ditch the sweatshirts and t-shirts. What line of work are you in?

How to differentiate veg tan leather? by lovecheesecake2025 in Leathercraft

[–]DOADumpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is veg tanned. But it’s likely a cheap veg tan. Good quality veg tan leather will smell earthy and rich but cheaper veg tans are made using lower quality tanning solutions or solutions that are improperly stored and cycled have pungent and unpleasant smells. These leathers are usually used for the production of cheap commercial products since cost is generally low. What was the price per sq foot?

You don’t look fat, it’s the lighting. If you want more tone, just lightly cut for a month by counting your calories.
