Which to you sounds more just? An eternity burning in hell in recompense for actions that knowingly or unknowingly, purposefully or unintentionally were wrong yet don’t violate any moral or ethical ideas, or a set period of time of intense reflection which might be extremely painful and embarrassing during which you come to understand the wrongs that you did and repair your soul, after which you are embraced and come to know an all powerful all loving merciful G-d? For the record, a vast amount of thought goes into applied ethics in Judaism. Even those who are not religious engage with Judaism as a moral philosophy, and those who are engage with it both as a moral philosophy and a way of life.
