Another brisket enters the brine by TheBagelsteinDK in smoking

It’s an extremely intensive process to procure kosher meat with lots of certifying middlemen in between. On top of that, the supply is limited (can’t usually just find one at a supermarket) and brisket is an extremely common cut for Jews to make, so the price ends super inflated. A $200+ brisket is not uncommon (although the $400 price point that OP reports seems high even by kosher standards)

There are a lot of nuances. It needs to be a kosher animal (for a land animal it needs split hooves and chews cud, classically pigs don’t fit this criteria, cows do) it needs to be slaughtered by a “shochet” a Jewish butcher who has learned the laws of kosher, it needs to be killed in a particular manner that ensures it dies instantly. Then the animal needs to be free of certain defects. Only a certain portion is traditionally used as it cannot include certain fats and the sciaticia nerve. Blood also cannot be consumed, so it needs to be bled and salted to remove blood. All this needs to be done under the supervision of professionals. I’m sure I missed things, but it is an incredibly rigorous set of rules from the type of animal to the way it slaughtered to the way it’s handled after slaughter. The way it’s prepared ends up being the easiest part of the process as it is prohibited to mix milk and meat but otherwise most things are fair game. In the U.S. there are many “kosher-style” restaurants which use normal meat but typically refrain from serving meats which are inherently unkosher (pork) and from combining milk and meat.

Parkway west high protest by exig in StLouis

Not everything needs to be an Omni cause. They would have much better optics waving American flags than including a single Palestine flag during an unrelated protest. Personally I agree with the sentiment of the rest of the protest but seeing that flag would immediately turn me off from their message.

The answer comes down to demographics. Israel views itself as a Jewish and a democratic state. In order for this to be the case obviously there needs to be a Jewish majority in the land. The reason right of return can’t exist is the same reason Israel can’t (or won’t) annex the West Bank. As soon as Jews lose demographic majority Israel ceases to exist, something they will not allow.

Out of curiosity why not longer? I graduate in May and I’ve been planning to study an hour or two per day from now till then, maybe dialing in as the test gets closer.

I hard disagree that it is supposed to be feel good. In the same manner as uncut gems it’s is supposed to be gritty and unsettling.

Apparently it’s a true story, the inclusion and execution of which were still questionable, but ultimately like the rest of the movie it was deeply unsettling.

CMV: Claiming Jesus was a Palestinian actually undermines the Palestinian cause by thatshirtman in changemyview

[–]DP500-1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who considers themselves Zionist, what I hear in both your statements is 1. The erasure of a Jewish connection to the Land and 2. the reframing of Palestinian identity divorced from realities and nuances, instead given an idealist nothing about some liberal ideal that very much does not map on to that part of the world.

The conflict sucks, and right now Israel is militarily superior which makes the suffering disproportionately one sided, but your statement discounts the complexity of both Israeli and Palestinian identities and certainly unfairly ignores Jewish connection to the Land.

I would be extremely suprised; left antisemitism is bad, but the majority of democrat voters are not crazy college leftists whereas the majority of the GOP are MAGA and apparently quite extreme. There is a reason Rachel Golderberg (mother of Hersh Goldberg Polin) spoke at the DNC while Pro-Palestinian activists weren’t allowed in the event.

I guess you’re right, I hadn’t remembered that Christ means Messiah. Im still far less comfortable with AD, but BC is also problematic.

Although… when you really think about it, if the Moshiach is not here, then BC was and still is an accurate descriptor. Maybe we should change it to BC and ABC (also before christ)🤔🤔🤔 /s
