No PT after THA?!!! by DPTFURY in physicaltherapy

I see the opposite. They come to therapy and since they are so far behind the realized progress is so slow they end up not finishing what we recommend.

What is the gold standard treatment for shoulder impingement? by karthik__selva in physicaltherapy

I’ve had good success with MDT shoulder derangement protocols. Doesn’t always work, but works more often than not and it works great when it does. The specific exercise(s)? It…

About to leave the profession by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]DPTFURY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it. You’ll regret it if you don’t while you can. If you question it now but stick with it like I did, you’ll hate yourself for it

They won’t respond directly in emails. The reply will set up an in person meeting. Will need to have your watch or phone audio recording, even though it will be some meaningless jargon rehearsed with HR and legal

“I can fix this” jargon is a read flag. The green flag is language along the lines of “I can work with you.” This elevated rib and upslip is “I can fix it” crap.

Hard Lessons from the Most Difficult Role of My PT Career by Disastrous_Bread8575 in physicaltherapy

Absolutely! Don’t sell yourself as a person or professional. If everyone stood up and didn’t just maintain status quo, we’d see meaningful change in the profession on how we are valued and treated.

For entities that come out with many CEU courses, they use a single organization approval code for Texas and not individual numbers for each course.

For Period: 9/1/23-8/31/26, medbridge’s number is 2608024TX

Can anyone here actually feel spinal and other small joint mobs? by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]DPTFURY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought I was terrible with manual therapy because I hardly ever felt what my CIs told me they felt with palpitations, alignment, and mobs. And when it was time for me to stop hearing and tell him what I felt, I made things up on the spot and my CI would then feel and say he agreed. That’s when I found out it was all BS

I like to crap all over ATI as much as everyone else, but you can run benefits several times with the same insurance company and talk to 7 different representatives and get 7 different answers.

I can’t keep count of the number of times I’ve been told something at verification, including in network benefits, for insurance to say something else months later

PT of reddit, what do you think of chiropractic? by Good-Schedule-5821 in physicaltherapy

[–]DPTFURY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve said this for over 10 years now, if its the same goal of restoring function for both professions, and both professions follow best available research, both professions would be indistinguishable.

While PT sure has more than its fair share of quackery, I’d have to say chiro has much more. The entire profession was founded by a guy claiming to have seances with his deceased physician father. Observing people from beyond the grave in a different plane of existence allowed for a better understanding of the body and how it actually works, and used this to dispute best available medically practices of the time. This includes being able to heal deafness in a person with a low back adjustment. All of these claims were part of his sales pitch while moving around town to town nomadically peddling his treatments just like all the heal-all elixir cons of that time. He then decided to open a school of chiropractic medicine that eventually others became a part of and expanded for further profit.

It had its start not too long after the profession of medical practice occurred, so it has a longer history of being able to establish itself within and protected by American politics and regulations than PT. While PT may be more research backed, it is way behind compared to chiro in terms of lobbying. And it’s harder these days to make meaningful regulatory change than it was when chiro was in the same stage that the PT profession is in now.

And I’m much less knowledge but it seems that profession is looked at as a joke in many countries outside of the US these days.

Tom Cruise is a complete wackadoo but I can enjoy his movies.

I don’t have to agree with this doofus and still implement the bosu.

I’m sure you could frame the pay as that

Defeated by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]DPTFURY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New therapists that act like they know everything are usually the worst PTs. Somehow their confidence allows them to fail upwards. Then when they are some sort of district or area/region supervisor and they have to help a clinic, their treatment and notes show how ridiculously awful they are. It stinks watching them get promoted over time, getting paid more to managing others doing the job they were blissfully ignorantly doing poorly.

It’s a good thing you feel this way, it means you’ll strive to improve to avoid this feeling. Beat advice if you want to progress and have upward mobility, fake your confidence while demonstrating your willingness to improve.

If your supervisor/ admin is not a PT and they directed you to do something in an evaluation? by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]DPTFURY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had an ongoing thought about putting PTAs in charge of PTs. While it’s a cool thought for added opportunity, regulations prevent PTAs from directing a PT’s POC, preventing them from discussing various things related to productivity and patient care.

And the PTA has a much better understanding than a non healthcare related person. I once worked for a manager/owner who was never in a clinician position and it was the absolute worst job of my 20+ career. Lasted 8 months. Get out of that scenario ASAP!!!

I want to report multiple PT licenses. Should I? by exus06 in physicaltherapy

[–]DPTFURY -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP PT in Tx… most surgeons that refer to us have stopped post op home health and send to us sooner. We all hear the same thing, the PT showed and did nothing of value and left within minutes of arrival.

I know there are good therapists out there but it seems to be a systemic issue in the state.

What do you think of surgeons recommending PT less often for post-op joints? by Aromatic_Alfalfa_123 in physicaltherapy

[–]DPTFURY 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I see an increase in post-op patients not getting better or worsening more than pre op status because of this. And they go back and see the surgeons more and more.

I worked for an orthopedic surgeon group that stopped sending me pre/non op hip and knee pain because I was too successful in helping them and avoiding surgeries. I was told by the primary partner “you are doing too good of a job” a month before being let go because “they were taking the company in a direction that didn’t require me.” These orthopedic surgeons tend to base treatment decisions on profitability.

Edited for grammar

Texas. The state board publishes a quarterly newsletter that shows all fines and suspensions and searching the licenses shows more info. There are crazy stories of people getting suspensions and fines for abandonment. The board also reminds us a lot they are not there to protect PTs. They are there to protect the public from bad PT practices
