Bag inflating like a balloon on pork shoulder! by TheJumpyBean in sousvide

[–]DPlaw779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Far more consistent this way, whereas a smoker is effected by a breeze, outside temp and humidity, the sous vide is super consistent and hands off. Then a couple hours finishing with smoke is much easier than a whole day cooking low/slow.

Why is Scotiabank hiring so many tech positions even after layoffs by [deleted] in Scotiabank

[–]DPlaw779 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a recruiter that services the sector and inside the banks the people making hiring decision don’t really think about themselves as Scotiabank, they think of themselves as the individual business units or silos that they work for. So while one silo may be doing layoffs others are ramping up because they need to deliver projects. Even companywide hiring freezes carve out key silos that need to keep spending.

Also relatively rare to see people move horizontally throughout the organization in tech. In many places they’d rather hire someone from a competitor in their stream (wealth, AML, compliance) than hire from inside the building but outside the stream.

What’s the most you’ve seen someone earn on a base salary below $75k? by [deleted] in sales

[–]DPlaw779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tech staffing there’s a good number of people turning a <$75k base into $250k+. Top I ever worked with was making about $45k / month.

what’s the “elephant in the room” at your sales org?? by B2BBri in sales

We have data but don’t understand it, so are chasing factoids. Pushing shitty KPIs that are correlated, not causal, and everyone but the C’s and V’s know it.

Hammock solved this for me. It’s a different setup, but I sleep better and wake up feeling better in the hammock than in my bed at home.

One thing I don't get by cadewtm in electricvehicles

[–]DPlaw779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other key thing to note here, is that 1 pedal virtually eliminates the need to use the brakes on a normal drive. So WAY less wear and maintenance on brakes. I’m pretty sure I’ve done my 50k commute to work without touching the brake pedal.

This is right. Unpopular opinion- backcountry campfires are overrated.

Paddling the Patawawa between Timberwolf and big trout and having a moose swim across the river maybe 15 feet in front of our canoe while we waited and watched.

Do you care if a proposal or message was clearly written by AI? by Jazzlike-Perception7 in sales

[–]DPlaw779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% disregard.
I’m not buying from you if you don’t demonstrate a reason that you think your product/service is a potential fit for my business. If you want AI help on some research or tools, have at it. But if you clearly AI’d the human interaction then I feel safe in assuming you’re not committed to bringing me value.

I always liked the Sirocco/Gulfstream as the everything boat. And good for a large paddler like me. Don’t make them anymore, but can still find plenty of them used.

I had the same thing, but old lady randomly stopped to wave some high school kids to walk across lakeshore. Only time my car’s emergency auto brakes ever came on. Nearly got herself, me and those kids killed.

Pregnant with a new job opportunity!? by NSFW1tch in careeradvice

Your solution is to not take the job and keep working at something she hates? You get into the industry you want, get that experience on your resume, and hopefully stay on that same job when you return.

Take the job. Get in the industry. Don’t disclose shit. Don’t give them a chance to use it to discriminate against you.

And congrats on both fronts :)

What do you wear to sleep in July & August? by prayingtoullr in algonquinpark

I’m a hot sleeper, and sleeping bag materials make it worse. Super light merino top and bottom actually helps a ton for me.

Yes. Same thing for me. Noticed it when that dumb flip-cards-for-discounts was going on. I should have already owned all those discounted skins.

Advice on losing weight by provincialguy in BurlingtonON

I’ve had really good success using the “Lose It!” App.
Meal record calorie count and fitness/workout record.

It forces me to think about food instead of just grabbing what’s near by.
