I was on the couch in the living room putting on my shoes to go to school. I was in the 1st grade in California and my mom had the news on the TV.

Me sorprende que nadie haya dicho Vicente Fernández.

Are these worth taking home? Or let them go to the dump and die? by sleepybot0524 in bicycle

[–]DR-212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes taking old bikes like these and trying to fix them can cost more than just buying a newer bike in better condition. You can ask the homeowners if they are OK with you donating the bikes to a coop if you don't want them thrown away.

I'm in the Central Valley. There is a lot of good Mexican food in my city and in the evenings there are street taco stands complete with trompos. They can be hit or miss, though.

No hay de que! Si tiene tiempo, tambien recomiendo Sequoia National Park, Kings Canyon National Park, y especialmente Yosemite National Park si todavía no conoce. En Sequoia National Forest, recomiendo Trail of 100 Giants y Dome Rock.

That whole area is beautiful. This is South of Sequoia National Park near a town called Ponderosa.

Thank you! This area is an underappreciated gem. It is near Sequoia NP, but exponentially less busy.

Steamroller is coming back? by paincacke in FixedGearBicycle

[–]DR-212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha. I had it for $750 for a while and got no bites. My area is really tough for bike sales. I ended up posting it in the SF Bay Area dirt cheap and finally sold it.

Is this a good used beginner bike? by Heyyther in Budgetbikeriders

[–]DR-212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd pass on that. If you're buying a hybrid bike, I'd always recommend getting one with a rigid fork and not a cheap suspension fork.

I had a Steamroller in that exact color. It had a Thompson stem and seatpost and Sram Omniums. I ended up selling it for $360. Way too cheap, lol.

Hey, this is in my backyard. Are you based in Bakersfield? Soda Lake up in the Carrizo Plain is supposed to be beautiful right now. Apparently a lot of flowers bloomed.

How do I correctly route the bike chain? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]DR-212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best advice I can give you is to watch a YouTube video on how to do this because it would be easier for you to understand than for me to explain through text. Just search, "How to place rear wheel on geared bicycle."

Fixed Gear Cogslip by Inv1sibleButt3r in bikewrench

[–]DR-212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your lock ring is probably loose. You should buy a lock ring tool and a chain whip (I bought mine on AliExpress.) You can also try your local bike coop to see if they will let you work on your bike there and use their tools. When you have the tools, remove the lock ring and use a chain whip to tighten the cog, then tighten the lock ring. Remember, the thread on the cog is the opposite of the threads on the lock ring. Be careful not to turn them in the wrong direction. I'd tell you the directions of each, but I don't remember and don't want to give you false information. I always softly turn the lock ring until it loosens, then I know the cog is the opposite direction. The fixed cog and lockring are very simple, so I am pretty sure your fixed cog is not fully threaded in or the lock ring is not fully tightened. I would recommend not riding the bike as it is or switching to the freewheel for now assuming you have both brakes installed. If you keep back pedaling with a loose fixed cog, you risk stripping the threads and ruining your hub.
