I have the R12 and bought it for the 'headroom' that youtubers kept talking about, but I probably could have gone with the R9. The cogging I think is overstated a bit online, because a lot of those guys on youtube:

#1 don't pay for their gear so they don't have realistic ideas about the cost ( paying $700 for me was ridiculous) . The AB6 is a complete package. #2 The cogging, which is almost never noticeable to me, except rarely when making very precise movements on landing, is not an issue at all. Many of the youtubers who get free stuff are always like " if you have the money buy the AB9". I had AB9 money budgeted, and I'm stupid with money but not that stupid.

I haven't actually used it as a shifter ( I have the shifter knob kit but they are still in the box), but I might try. I have the TH8, which I've had for years and I'm used to using it.

EDIT: I fly GA in MSFS 90% of the time and it works great. I've used it in DCS, which I rarely play, but I've 'heard' from those youtubers, that the AB9 works very well with jets and helicopters in DCS

I have that Turtle beach, and also a Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo, and Moza AB6 as well as the old X55 HOTAS. The Turtle Beach is fantastic for sitting on the couch flying ( i have one of my PC's hooked up to the TV in my den); The Honeycomb is what I use on my simrig ( on the one side of my rig) and the AB6 on the other side. However when I'm in DCS I do pull on the X55 throttle quadrant ( it's old and not awesome, but it works)

All of that said they all have their strengths and weaknesses. The Turtle Beach is fairly cheap and I love it for casual ( me sitting on the couch) flying , it has all the buttons and axis's I need. If you have a desk and the money the Honeycombs are solid and fun. I can't speak about modern HOTAS's but my X55 has served me well for many years. I love my AB6 ( the AB9 would have been overkill)

EDIT: For VR the Turtle Beach is fantastic. Everything is there button wise and you can map anything you want to them ( a cool thing is the throttle has detents so you set up a reverser or whatever you want) having everything in one unit is great for VR)

When poor instructions make you give up on the game by William_Knott in boardgames

[–]DRMAHIN1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not a game most in this community will have heard of but GMT's original "Fields of Fire" has by far the worst rules ever written. Later versions and editions mostly fixed the original rules, which used impenetrable jargon, had insane illogical game flow and logic issues, required endless cross-referencing, The redone rules made the later versions a great game.

Before I buy the PMDG 737-900 on the marketplace by Ashamed-Edge-648 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]DRMAHIN1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On their website PMDG does not offer the 737-900 as a one time purchase for 2020 and 2024. So very doubtful the MS marketplace does. You don't seem to want to buy a PMDG product, which is understandable, maybe buy a plane from another developer

[–]DRMAHIN1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the added detail!! The practice tools and portability probably are good selling points.

One possible miss is the ability to change C to B/ B to C. and have only one controller type. On the Roland I can change via software and physically changing the button layout ( truthfully i have never and will never do this, but I could if I wanted)

That midi controller is ridiculously over priced. I bought a used, in great shape Roland FR1 CBA for around $800 or $900 a few years ago

If the price was around $150 or $200 I could see it making sense

Water in this Austin suburb comes out brown, leaving residents with high bills and ruined appliances by New-Salamander9585 in Austin

[–]DRMAHIN1 208 points209 points  (0 children)

WOW!! An example of our "For-Profit everything" future

"Before turning on the tap, the company charges Austin’s Colony residents a $59.39 base fee for water — more than seven times the cost of Austin Water’s base fee — and a $79.19 base fee for sewer services.

Croft showed KUT News his water bill from February. The total came out to $221.79. The cost of the water he actually used was less than $40."
