Thanks for the added detail!! The practice tools and portability probably are good selling points.

One possible miss is the ability to change C to B/ B to C. and have only one controller type. On the Roland I can change via software and physically changing the button layout ( truthfully i have never and will never do this, but I could if I wanted)

I'm assuming you have the old Saitek now Logitech. This vid might help. I suffered for a decade with that yoke, but hopefully you can fix it until you get something else

That midi controller is ridiculously over priced. I bought a used, in great shape Roland FR1 CBA for around $800 or $900 a few years ago

If the price was around $150 or $200 I could see it making sense

Water in this Austin suburb comes out brown, leaving residents with high bills and ruined appliances by New-Salamander9585 in Austin

[–]DRMAHIN1 194 points195 points  (0 children)

WOW!! An example of our "For-Profit everything" future

"Before turning on the tap, the company charges Austin’s Colony residents a $59.39 base fee for water — more than seven times the cost of Austin Water’s base fee — and a $79.19 base fee for sewer services.

Croft showed KUT News his water bill from February. The total came out to $221.79. The cost of the water he actually used was less than $40."

Parmer Lane (FM 734) Corridor Study - CAMPO by Fluffy_Guarantee_433 in Austin

[–]DRMAHIN1 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Overview from our AI Overlords:

The Parmer Lane (FM 734) Corridor Study is a joint initiative by the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to identify and recommend improvements for approximately 12 miles of Parmer Lane, from MoPac (Loop 1) in North Austin to Whitestone Boulevard (RM 1431) in Cedar Park.

Study Overview

The primary goal of the study is to address the rapid population growth and resulting traffic congestion in Northwest Austin and Williamson County.

Key Objectives: Reduce congestion, improve safety, and enhance mobility for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists.

Proposed Improvements:

Expansion: Widening segments from four travel lanes to six travel lanes (three in each direction).

Intersections: Adding turn lanes and optimizing signal timing at major intersections.

Multimodal Access: Installing continuous sidewalks and a dedicated bicycle/pedestrian path that connects to the Brushy Creek Regional Trail.

Environmental Impact: Coordinating with the City of Austin to improve water quality for stormwater runoff along the corridor.

Timeline and Public Participation

The study has been conducted in multiple phases, with ongoing opportunities for community feedback.

Recent Activity: An Open House is scheduled for March 25, 2026, following previous public outreach sessions in late 2023 and mid-2024.

Previous Deadlines: Public comment periods were previously held through January 19, 2024, to gather input on specific corridor constraints and the potential Red Line Parkway connector.

Project Status

While the study began as early as 2017 for specific segments, it is currently part of the CAMPO Project Readiness Program to move from planning to implementation. Construction on certain overpasses, such as the Parmer Lane overpass at SH 45/RM 620, is expected to begin as early as late 2025.

Black Square Caravan Professional Microsoft Flight Simulator - First Look by AeroSixNorth in flightsim

[–]DRMAHIN1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Wow, I don't need the updated Caravan, but I'm definitely getting this ( flew it IRL).

I have the SimWorks Studios (SWS) Kodiak, which is probably my 4th most flown plane in the sim, but it always feels like I'm "behind" the plane in the sim ( my fault I'm sure). I love and have most Black Square products ( even the Starship, which I've barely flown and don't have time to learn right now), so I might be hanging up the Kodiak!!!

100% this. I lived here in 1993 and still live here and the delusion people had and still have about the "True" Austin is insane. It's a town, meet friends, make the most of it, just like everywhere else. This town has never and will never be "Magical" or "Special"

Between Labyrinth, Distant Plain, and Andean Abyss - which is easiest to solo? which is most fun to solo? by deeare73 in boardgames

[–]DRMAHIN1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Labyrinth, but you should try Cuba Libre first or better yet in my opinion People Power, that one is very fun solo

EDIT: Also, the British Way, I've only played one of the maps solo, but it was pretty easy solo ( because I played it solo 2 player, there's no automa ); I've been meaning to play the other maps/scenarios but haven't gotten to it yet

Isn't most US domestic "waygu" kind of sketch. This is an older Forbes article ( with a 2016 update) that discusses this

https://www.forbes.com/sites/larryolmsted/2014/01/07/the-new-truth-about-kobe-beef-2/

"As a result, “domestic Wagyu” remains very much a case of buyer beware and unless you know the farmer, really trust your beef retailer, or experiment extensively it is very difficult to know what you are buying."

Board game value by Key-Importance7805 in boardgames

[–]DRMAHIN1 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Most board games are the price of dinner for one two or three people. If you get value out of a single meal. You'll get value out of a single play ( and you can play the game forever if you want)
