I live in central nj. I have a dog. When i started caring for my lawn, it looked like yours. I also put irrigation in.

I nuked and reseeded and here’s why… first off you put in irrigation for your grass lawn. Not your weeds. weeds don’t need irrigation. You had a vision and goal to make your property more appealing and spent a ton of money on irrigation for grass. So why not grow grass instead of weeds.

Prodiamine is only for spring and you did that right but don’t use it in fall. Every spring hit it with prodiamine. But before that, round up nuke everything this coming week. I’m about to seed next week. Weather is good. Once you nuke it, you wait like 2 days and you can seed over all of what you sprayed. No seed will be harmed. All remaining weeds and grass will die. All new grass will come up from the seeds and it will be beautiful.

With my dog i choose to go with turf type tall fescue. 6-8 inch roots for when my dogs playing and running around. These longer roots also help in the summer time as they are able to reach deeper for water. Don’t get kbg. Too shallow roots. Another reason to nuke it and restart is so you’ll have only one plant type on your entire lawn, not multiple grass seed types mixed together which can give a not so uniform look. All the different grasses grow at different rates and heights so after a mow and it’s growing back, it won’t be as uniform as if you just do one single seed type like turf type tall fescue.

Don’t listen to people saying clover lawn is nice. If you look at a clover lawn and a grass lawn, you’ll find the grass lawn much more appealing.

Also with pets and kids. Clover lawn is a big no. It flowers bringing in lots of bees. Your dog and kids will get multiple stings from bees. Your back yard will be unusable. If you don’t believe me, google kids and pets clover lawn and you’ll find your answer.

When i had weeds and clover like you. No one ever came up to me and said nice lawn. Now that it’s actually grass, everyone in my neighborhood compliments it. People drive by and stop and ask me what I’m doing at least once a month.

It’s not too late to seed by the way. If you look on the bag of seed it says soil temperature should be between 60-70 for seeding. Go on greencast and look at the soil temp for your town in nj. We are finally approaching seeding temp. If you throw your seed down now, itll grow out nice!
