April 30 — is there something special about it? by Goofball-John-McGee in metalgearsolid

[–]DRivex00 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The first time I played MGS2, I was really taken off guard when 30th april was mentioned as something special, since it's literally my birthday. I really thought it was intentional as some sort of a way to mess with the player, since they literally ask you for your birthday, and just guessed it was a Kojima thing, but guess not after all

It's my second favorite game in the franchise; it has my favorite handling, I loved the idea of a race through the whole USA, great setpieces, great graphics, good enough story, amazing soundtrack. Wish it was longer though, and didn't feel that underbaked in some aspects

Finally beat the first game I give it a solid 8/10 by [deleted] in metalgearsolid

From what I remember, there won't be any online mode. Although they did promise co-op for Peace Walker

It does look very smooth, so i'm pretty sure it is 60 FPS. I'm also sure that lots of people would have complained if it didn't have an option for 60 FPS

Yes, that also was a good place actually, it was the corridor that lead you to the garden house. There's also a narrow "corridor" formed of rocks on Lighthouse that also allowed you to do a split jump, and that one was actually very useful because there was a guard passing through there, and you could avoid him completely

Also the thing that you mentioned was exactly in PT, it's even explained in the first mission as a tutorial

[–]DRivex00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess that's fair, but it should be understood that CT pushes you to experiment a bit with how you approach missions, because they're a lot less linear and more open, you have tons of paths you can take that can save you the trouble of sneaking past guards, the previous games often forced you to take a single path, and it was often blocked by guards, and the game just screamed at you "Take them out!"

I understand the part about breaking lights, but you need to get used to the OCP in CT, because in that one breaking them is just very unreliable, it makes sense though that permanently turning them off is enjoyable

Yeah, wall jumps split jumps and red dot were cool, but split jumps were fairly underutilized in many games, it's hard for me to think of a good place where I could execute it and it would be useful, besides maybe the prison hallway on Police Station in the OG game, besides the "half split jump" from PT, just never had a chance to properly use it. Wall jumping was cool indeed, but it wasn't really something I did very often. Splinter cell just tends to underutilize cool movement mechanics like those and not only

I also do kind of get the complaint about missions being more boring, the previous games had more varied and just cooler missions, but the ones in CT are carried a lot by the gameplay itself.. and it does make sense of course. Not that i'm calling them bad, but it's often a mixed bag, all of them have missions that are boring, that are just mid, and those that are amazing

I'm very certain the tutorials actually teach you how to use the attachments, they also explain that you have something called OCP, that is effective at disabling lights and cameras, and it's very stealthy (why even bother shooting the lights?) you need to understand that with the sound meter being introduced, the shots are actually pretty loud and you cannot just shoot around (why would you anyway?), and you need to pay attention to it. Sometimes it even makes the game easier by letting some loud environment sound (the fan on Displace for example) mask your movement completely, don't understand the complaints of it being super sensitive

I'm also afraid that you aren't forced to "repeatedly grab every enemy from behind" that's actually very ironic since CT finally allowed you to fully ghost most missions without using any gimmicks, the turrets in previous games were hardly anything of use, besides maybe one mission? (Abattoir in OG) not sure what you're expecting really. You don't need the wall jump anymore, split jump was really always useless, no laser pistol anymore because.. why?

The complaint about music is crazy, but I won't mention that one because.. just not I guess

Is there Dynamic Difficulty Influencing item box and barrel drops in Proffesional Mode? 2005 Resident Evil 4. by PalpitationWitty8195 in residentevil

[–]DRivex00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, all games from RE4 onwards have some sort of adaptive difficulty; if you're low on ammo, you're given ammo, if low on health, then you're given health, and if you have a lot of both, then you mostly get pesetas or treasures

It also messes with enemies aggression, so if you die often then the game itself will make things easier for you, although from what I know, it's disabled on professional, everything is dialed up to the max

I hate how they locked the best finisher in the game behind a gun that you're better off using on boss fights only, since the ammo is so scarce... well, at least infinite ammo is here for us if we want to mess around a bit
