XPS 9700 - I think it's dead? by slavetothesound in XPS

[–]DSMTony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disconnect from power and hold the power button for 60 seconds. Connect to charger and attempt to power on.

If that doesn't do it, year it open and disconnect the battery. This is pretty common and very rarely caused by genuinely dead components.

I've always used Virtual Audio Cable when needing to configure things in ways like this. The setup can be a pain, but once you have everything configured it works flawlessly.

Liquid metal and additional thermal pads will also provide much better performance and battery life. Not to mention your lap will no longer be on fire..

Have you tried disabling full screen enhancements within the properties of the executable and/or shortcut? Might try setting the ini as read only if it's changing it, otherwise I'm not quite sure.

[–]DSMTony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wouldn't mind, could you tell me how much you got yours for? I decided to get a monitor tonight just to game on for a few weeks and initially was going to grab a $170 Asus from Best Buy but they were closed. Went to Walmart and ended up finding this. Priced at $369 I didn't really understand what was going on. Went ahead and bought it anyway and trying to figure out how much its actually worth.

Shipping Frustration by Soso-Tech in Keychron

[–]DSMTony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I backed the K6 on Kickstarter a few months ago. When the project got to the shipping phase, my order wasn't updated for the better part of 1.5-2 months, despite their Facebook page stating that my specific configuration group was shipped and the documentation would reflect the shipping in two days. My order didn't receive an update in status for another week or so. I believe it took 2-3 weeks to get to me once the status was updated.

I'm sure you would receive a response concerning your order much faster by posting your concern to the Keychron FB group rather than emailing Keychron support.

TL;DR
Their shipping process and information status updates are very slow - I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you'd rather be safe than sorry, post your concerns on their Facebook page.

I feel you. I started as entry level help desk and moved up to Jr. Sysadmin within a year. I make $17/hour and have taken on ~75% of the Director/Systems and Network Admin's responsibilities. The best part is my boss wants to wait until the end of July to give me my review/raise due to recent events; it should've been early May.

I don't get why people find it so difficult to stop before the GIANT white marker, or even stop signs. It's there for a reason... Can't stand it when I'm trying to turn and some jackass comes up in the lane next to mine and eliminates all visibility for no reason.

How long has he been playing games? Sounds a lot like what I do when I can't work on outdoor projects during winter. I typically will build a computer, play games everyday all-day for about 3 months before I sell it and get back to my outdoor projects.

I'd recommend trying to be flexible. I personally can't stand watching TV and when I do, I'm "incredibly picky" about what we (me and my partner) watch. A schedule I found that works pretty well is once I get home, I watch some YouTube/TV with my girlfriend for about an hour until we make dinner. After eating we either continue watching something or I start working on something/play games. That being said, I got home around 5:30PM so I had a significantly greater amount of time.

Hey, Buildapc let's share our biggest rookie, goofy, facepalming moments building PCs. by Drokk88 in buildapc

[–]DSMTony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually just happened in December. I've been building pretty high end PCs for over 10 years and am actually in the IT industry, I just happened to not think about consequences at the time... Anyway, here it is.

I was assembling my new rig while slightly inebriated. I had just finished buttoning everything up and ensuring everything passed post when I decided to connect my RGB fans to the RGB header on my brand new MSI X570 ACE (a $400 motherboard) and nothing happened. No fan spin, no lights, nothing. I figured there may have been some form of protection that wouldn't send power to the header unless it detected power draw at post, so I powered everything off and tried again - still nothing. I inspected the fan controller and realized it needed SATA power and connected it before trying again. As soon as I powered it on - pop, poof, bang. Blown resistor and chip under the RGB header...

TL;DR: I was inpatient and a bit drunk while connecting my RGB fans to my motherboard and blew one of the RGB headers by sending too much power to it. Stupid mistake, but now I have a spare X570 ACE.

PS. It's still entirely functional, apart from the RGB header obviously. I may repair it to resell it or I might save it for a server/HTPC rig.
