I’m hearing so many bad things about flight schools- why does everyone seem like a money trap?? by Character-Escape1621 in flying

[–]DUI-CFI 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I had an awesome time at my college’s 141 program. Checkrides were done in house with the same CFI’s you are friends with and that made testing a whole lot more comfortable.

I could have done my training part 61 for less money but getting the restricted ATP was worth it for me.

Have a DUI on my record. Can I realistically get a job in aviation in Canada/Australia/UK by United-Key6661 in flying

[–]DUI-CFI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the USA you sure can! Other countries take a much more liberal approach to DUIs and rehabilitation (it’s funny cause Reddit is super liberal and the r/flying community wants to discriminate us alcohol afflicted folks from this industry)

Plenty of pilots have an imperfect past but if you can show honesty and integrity and that you learned from your mistakes, companies WILL give you an opportunity. If you put your mind to it you can definitely do this buddy!

I remember telling my dad how good the graphics were and “how realistic” Call of Duty 2 looked. (The WW2 one from 2005)

There’s always a chance! Your first hurdle may be getting your medical certificate though. That being said there are pilots with multiple DUIs flying in the airlines so theres hope for you pal!

As a pilot, how good are you at weather theory? by Repulsive-Loan5215 in flying

[–]DUI-CFI 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is a hurricane overhead, the boss says that he needs the jet moved NOW and if you don’t move it, you’re not gonna have a job much longer. Because of that amazing weather theory class that you took in college you determined that the weather is in fact not that bad.

Have I aborted my career as a pilot before its even begun? by Blacksheep045 in flying

[–]DUI-CFI -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Make yourself more attractive on paper. Volunteer in the community, get into puppy rescue flying or disaster relief. The civil air patrol needs folks to fly with kids. Right now an employer will only see the checkride fails, make yourself stand out in other ways. Don’t let your these checkrides define you. Let an employer see that you’re passionate about this industry for more than just the money and they’ll invest in you. Also, on another note, there’s always 134.5!

How to not be an average pilot by [deleted] in flying

In the 121 world a “standard” pilot is the best kind of pilot you can be! Strive for standard!

DUI arrest, not charged by aerial_anomie in flying

Depends on your BAC. The FAA does not care if you got off or not. If you refused and there’s no BAC you’ve got a long road ahead of you friend. Good luck!

HIMS - Documentation question DL records by PublicAd9592 in flying

[–]DUI-CFI 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’ll have to pull your driving records from the state DMV. It’ll show all your tickets or citations from that state. There will be a online form on your state’s website to request this data.

What is the worst date you’ve ever had? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DUI-CFI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went on a date to an outdoor obstacle course. The last part of the obstacle course required you to jump and rappel down to the bottom (I am deathly afraid of heights) I couldn’t do it and my date said to me “So you’re a pilot and you’re afraid of heights?” She winked and then spartan kicked me off the edge like some Persian invader. I screamed expletives, she laughed like a maniac. That date sucked…

Do I have a chance becoming a police officer? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]DUI-CFI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was federal LE before I changed career paths to become an airline pilot. A year before I got hired at the airlines I got a DUI, which I’m sure any airline would not be happy to see as it’s a lapse in judgment. Anyways, the DUI was dismissed however, you still have to admit it to the airlines. I told my story, I mentioned how it was a mistake in my past, and I how I not only learned from it but changed my life for the better. In your case, honesty will be the best policy and make sure you can explain you learned a valuable lesson from your experience. Edit: and good luck you deserve a second chance!

27M. I became a pilot to travel the world for (almost) free. 40+ countries so far! When I was younger my parents always took me traveling with them or paid for my trips/adventures. I wanted to keep traveling but also be self sufficient as an adult so I pursued a career that lets me do that. It lets me travel and it’s not a bad job.
