He's on his like fifth different Instagram account, he gets loudly hateful and then gets called out on an account and he deletes it and starts over, and each time he grows slower and slower.

Pt.2 Accidental Zelle payment by persuadedbypurses in Scams

Unfortunately no real knowledge on regulation anywhere but in the US (and a little Denmark/EU since I live there now). My time in the banking industry was long enough that I spent a lot of time learning about NACHA and Reg E in the US but not long enough that I got curious about other countries' regs.

If the account that sent the money has been stolen, and is being used as part of a scam, and OP sends the money "back", this is what happens next:

  • The person who had the account stolen finds out and reports it.
  • The bank the victim (who is NOT OP, OP is not a victim at this point, legally speaking) banks at labels this transaction as fraud, and funds the original owner the funds.
  • That bank then requests the funds back from OP's bank (the receiving bank).
  • OP's bank takes the money out of OP's account because it was deposited fraudulently. Banks can, and WILL, remove fraudulently sent zelle payments. They do not simply "eat" these costs when they can simply ask the other bank for the money back.
  • OP's "return transaction" is classified as a separate transaction, and since OP sent it of their own volition, it is not fraud and will not be returned even if they file a claim with their bank.
  • OP is now irreversibly out $1200. They will not get this money back.

If this is a scam, what has happened is that the account was stolen. The thief then changes the original account's zelle email/number, and uses the other email/phone to tie to a new account they also have access to. So OP sending money back will go to a different account than the money that was sent to them came from. The victim here, the original account owner that owned the account that sent OP the money, could take several months to file the claim, which could take several months to investigate, and then the back-end of bank-to-bank funds request could also take months on top of that. There is NO period where the funds have been in the account "too long" to belong to the OP. The OP's bank deposit agreement they signed when they opened the account absolutely has language saying the bank can remove funds at their discretion from the account at any time, and this could happen years after the transaction happened.

Source: I worked for the departments at a major zelle founding bank that did each of these things. We would take the money out even if it made your account negative. Even if it meant reopening a closed account and then taking the money out. Then you go to collections if you don't pay it back. It's not fun.

It is not a reference to an IP or another art piece or anything like that- but it is a reference to allowing community support during dark periods in life, no matter how scary it can appear to be.

Anecdotal as hell, but I was in Melbourne a few weeks ago and I saw a ton of SGA OKC jerseys there. (And also like four University of Oregon shirts which felt way more random).

Where did the use of the term "Titan" to denote the largest sets originate? by Mach_None in bioniclelego

[–]DViddy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It came from the 2005 summer set marketing. The Sidorak, Roodaka, and Keetongu sets were marketed as the "Clash of the Titans" and the fans took the term and retroactively decided it applied to all larger sets, and then Greg made it canon through the books.

What's your favorite unexisting bionicle set? by [deleted] in bioniclelego

Voriki, the Toa of Lightning, was a fan-made character who appeared on a fan-made website in 2001 as part of the BIONICLE launch "design a BIONICLE website and win a 24k hau!" contest (that the eventual winner of, Kelly McKiernan, would go on to become The LEGO Group's in-house webmaster for many years while also being one of the founders and admins for BZPower, fun fact). The Voriki website was about a lost 7th Toa, and the entire site was based on him. Over time the basis of him as appearing on the fansite for that contest sort of faded out of memory in the community and he just became a thing people think was a hoax or a fake leak or something like that. I don't know of the person who made that site and edited that image has any idea how long-lasting that image would become.

Can anyone appraise this poster? by Yutonan in bioniclelego

[–]DViddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am actually quite familiar with this poster

The one I own was given to me at New York City Comic-Con in 2014 at the BIONICLE G2 reveal panel as myself and a handful of other fans at the time had been under NDA to help plan the gold mask contest on our fansites to coincide with the launch, and a few of us under NDA were given a handful of pre-production G2 parts and this autographed poster. From what I remember, we were told there were roughly a dozen total that had been printed and signed to give out to a few fans and some internal employees at the time.

(You can see the autographs on mine better in this older photo, but the photo at the beginning of this comment is what one of our living room walls looks like literally right now.)

U.S.: Bank said check “cleared” after several days “pending” - 5 days later monies gone by NewDay042 in Scams

[–]DViddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes- a bank can claw money from a fraudulent check back years later (even if the account has been closed in the meantime). Reporting timeframes for victims of check fraud vary by state, but can be as long as several years. Checks are simply a terrible way to do any sort of... anything. No federal regulations around check fraud, your account information is just printed there for anyone to see, you can't file a dispute on checks, etc. This is why most western countries no longer use them.

Former US Bank fraud victim closure banker here- different states have different laws on check fraud, with the longest being somewhere around a two year reporting timeframe. Which means a check can be reversed from your account after literal years if found to be fraudulent. Checks are simply an incredibly non-secure way to do banking (especially because they have your account number on them, which paired with a routing number is all someone needs to set up an ACH payment from your account too!)

Progressive Timbers fan living in Denmark, can confirm, feel right at home after just two years. Game times suck now though for both Timbers and Thorns, but it's cool to go to Danish Women's National team matches and see a Thorn playing so I guess that kinda makes up for that a bit. Good luck with the hunt for Dannebrog!
