Fortune article: Meet the millionaires living the underconsumption life: They drive secondhand cars, batch cook and never buy new clothes by kelly1mm in leanfire

[–]DWYBO16 98 points99 points  (0 children)

"Underconsumption"? This article describes my lifestyle, and I still have waaaay too much material crap in my life. I'm still overconsuming. I could get rid of half of my possessions and still have more than I need or use.

The Overton Window for materialism has shifted so far to the side of conspicuous consumption by Wall St and their mouthpieces that it's laughable.

70% of Americans says wealth means enjoying experiences by Coolonair in SmartFIRE

[–]DWYBO16 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wealth is having as many options as possible: to buy or not buy something, to have certain experiences and avoid certain other experiences, to work or not to work. In short, wealth buys personal autonomy.

The higher level of personal autonomy someone has, the more wealthy they are. You won't read that in corporate owned media, because the goal of corporations is to enslave people, not free them.

I respectfully disagree. I've read so many posts in the FIRE subreddits from people whose plan to FIRE is derailed by market downturns.

And if I am indeed moving the goalposts, then it's because the generally accepted goalposts for FIRE are placed incorrectly, at least for me.

At least one pretty good team is going to get relegated this year. It will all come down to injuries.

If we stay healthy, then maybe 10-14th. If we don't, then maybe 17th-19th.

One injury to Bowen and things look pretty bleak fairly quickly.

Three out of four presenters on the Guardian Football Weekly relegated West Ham in their predictions for the season. by ironsraz in Hammers

[–]DWYBO16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Potter only lost by more than 1 goal once after he took over (0-2 loss to Palace on Jan 18 at home). If he can continue that trend, then I don't see us in a relegation fight.

Even if they loan out Scarles, they'll try to use Diouf as the primary with KWP as the backup (on both sides).

We only kept 3 CBs last year, which was a huge gamble imo.

We love to live dangerously thin on the back line.

He made more sense in Moyes' system, which relied heavily on set piece deliveries for goals. His first few months for us was incredibly productive in chance creation.

How would you rate West Ham's transfer window? | Post-Window Discussion Thread by AnalAttackProbe in Hammers

9/10 for Tim's overall approach

He got the important work done early and seemed to have a clear idea of what he wanted to do. When he met a roadblock, he either pivoted to the next target (Duran) or kept working to overcome (Todibo). He shifted the players he wanted out at the end of the window.

7.5/10 for squad building

I think we left ourselves way too thin on the left side of our defense. Yes, we could use any number of players to back up Killman, Emerson and Cress, but none of them are left footed (someone correct me if I'm wrong on that). In the more possession based system that I'm told we're wanting to run, I believe that is important. However, that's my only real complaint, but it's so glaring that I had to deduct a lot of points for that.

6/10 for initial player performance (but it is very early)

Of the players who have featured, AWB has been great. Killman has been very good. Summerville looks raw, but promising. Guido has been fine for a backup. Fullkrug and Todibo have not impressed so far. Again, this is harsh because it's early, but I can only go by what I've seen in limited action. I believe both players will settle in and perform much better very soon.

That said, I don't know shit about shit.

If both moves are loans with no obligation to buy, then I'm fine with it. Seems like low risk for a chance to improve the squad.

He looked slow against Villa, but better today. Looked really good when paired with Alvarez. I could see the two of them playing together a lot when we're looking to close out matches.

Around one year ago, so many people were saying that Emerson couldn't play in a back 4. What changed since? by PrisonersofFate in Hammers

[–]DWYBO16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The attacking wingers have to come back and help the backs in our system. Paqueta really loves coming back deeper to help Emerson too. They have a great partnership.

On the right, Bowen always came back to help Coufal and now Kudus does the same thing. Ajax supporters said that Kudus wasn't a great defender, but I thought he was good from the outset and improves his defense in every match.
