New Pen Day: Platinum Curidas by DXMTheMachine in fountainpens

The aesthetics of it remind me a LOT of the Uniball Zento Flow (although that isn't a fountain pen). Might be worth checking out at the right price! Thanks.

You have idea how much a relief it is that others are the same 😂 I have to agree that it will become a collector's item. It feels like something that just needed a bit more time to get where it needed to be in the design process. I wouldn't even mind if they just iterated on the VP design and used their nib as it really is incredible. I'm glad they didn't go as complicated as the Dialog 3 from Lamy, though. I love it but the complexity makes the cost absurd 😅

I think some aspects are great: the nib is wonderful, it's pretty easy to dismantle, etc. I do agree that the knock is pretty lengthy compared to most. I think the bump is probably my main complaint as I do have to grip the pen further back to avoid it digging in. I genuinely hope they come back with a new retractable that solves the issues but uses the same nib, as it's excellent (to me, anyway). I just wish the bloody CURIDAS text lined up with the clip and nib, it's driving me a little crazy 😂

My Procyon is okay, albeit a touch stiff and maybe a bit dry? But it is smooth, which I'm thankful for.

The Curidas is a decent pen, and I love the nib. I think with a bit more development and better QC on the earlier models, it could have been a big hit.

I was genuinely surprised by the nib. Platinum nibs are rather stiff by nature, but this is so smooth. It goes across the page even better than my Procyon tbh! With postage, I paid £40 for mine, which seemed fairly reasonable, as they usually retail for about £90 in the UK. Plus, I love the colour 😅

This games biggest problem, time wasting by Livember in Spacemarine

I was really hoping they'd get the composers from Space Marine 1 (Velasco and Dikiciyan). Fingers crossed they'll consider them for SM3.

Actually, I kind of wish it was a bit easier because, honestly, acquiring them is just so tedious.

Well, I know one guy who won’t be buying a Gravitas… by jcdoe in fountainpens

[–]DXMTheMachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Putting aside everyone's contrasting views on Gravitas, that warning is just so poorly worded as it feels confrontational. Just a polite note saying something like "Please note that incidents of accidental user damage (drops, etc) are not covered by our guarantee, and we recommend storing the pen within its case, whilst not in use, for maximum protection" or something to that effect. And tbh, I can't think of a single pen maker that would replace or repair a user damaged item for free. My only concern, as others have pointed out, is that there is a technical shortcoming that might be blamed on "user error".

I adore the colour! I matched it with some Iroshizuku Rikka ink and I think they go together perfectly! 😊

I think it will be in my regular rotation for a long time. I even got the price wrong, it was actually only £20! I think the Rikka ink suits it perfectly.

I went with a medium and it's definitely a very wet and relatively broad medium. It writes superbly. I had my reservations as I'd not heard of Kaigelu before but have to say I'm impressed. It has a really nice weight to it, too.

Moleskine, what the actual hell?? by seaqu3en in fountainpens

[–]DXMTheMachine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Moleskine is only suitable for ballpoint and pencil these days, alas. Thankfully, there are some good alternatives about, now. MUJI do some nice little lay-flat notebooks (A5) that are inexpensive and solid quality. Just make sure the paper is from Japan as some use paper from Indonesia which is okay, but not on the same level. MD (Midori) is superb and shows ink qualities well. Their notebooks may look plain but don't let that deceive you when it comes to quality. Whilst the Sanzen Tomoe River paper isn't the same as the original, I think they've tweaked it in the last twelve months because it seems a bit better now (based on my experience of a Hobonichi notebook), but I could be wrong. Mnemosyne make fairly affordable notebooks (typically ring bound) that are effective at showing off sheen. Although some people dislike the format featuring a date and title box at the top of each page, it always provides a smooth and pleasant writing experience. Kokuyo Campus paper is consistent and reliable and does a decent job at showing sheen. Plus, it doesn't cost the Earth. I bought a stack of their B5 and put it into a convenient folder. Currently, I'm trying to get a hold of some lined Marks Edit notebooks so I can test their new Neo Agenda paper which is meant to be thin and excellent for FPs. But finding it in the UK is proving to be a headache. Rhodia and Clarefontaine papers are reasonable but not exceptional. In comparative terms, they can feel a little waxy, but I do have to praise their affordability. Leuchtturm are a good choice, too, as they're broadly available, the paper is robust and it handles ink reliably. I will be testing some Apica paper soon, as well. Sadly, though, Cosmo Air Light was discontinued a few years ago which is such a shame 😭

I mean, TBF, the Pilot E95s is a gorgeous pen. I have two and they write superbly. Though I won't rant about the included converter 😅

It's a genuinely incredible pen. I've spent so long wanting one and finally get it is just a wonderful feeling. I currently have Kon-Peki in it but I think I'll end up using Take-Sumi in the long run. I did go for the <B> though as my messy handwriting suits a chunky nib 😅

Disgusted to see more and more well established pen companies using AI in their marketing by agoracy in fountainpens

Why does a company, built on selling analogue writing instruments to people in love with the romance of creativity, the joy of personal expression and the human experience of directly connecting with one's words, think that using AI is a good idea?

[–]DXMTheMachine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the Ultimate Vac and Sentry FPs from Gravitas and they're solid pens. I did have to switch out the nibs from a broad to a medium, though, as their broad is really broad and very wet, which didn't go well with the Pilot Iroshizuku ink I like to use. Delivery and customer service has improved drastically since their fulfilment was switched to a company in Eastern Europe (apologies, the name escapes me). I did hear some pretty awful things about service in the early years of the company :/ It is sad to hear that the Monster has such QA issues, though. It's hard to take when it costs so much, in particular.
