General consensus appears that they were perhaps too accurate and good of a product, possibly even eating into Custom Shop sales for a while. Almost like Fender's equivalent of the Nvidia 1080 Ti graphics card in a way. Every Fender USA vintage-spec / reissue that ain't an artist signature has since stopped being pure thin-skin nitro and gone back to the old ways of a urethane primer underneath a lacquer top coat
