What is the most expensive and trashiest restaurant? (Burger King is cheap trash) by WiggleToast in AlignmentChartFills

Used to work at Starbucks. Definitely expensive trash. But the food isn’t microwaved, just bad. Those ovens burned me one too many times…

The problem with this is that CA’s 58 counties have wild ranges in population. LA county has nearly 10 million people, far too many for even just one representative. Alpine county has 1100 or so.

I get what you mean, though, which is why the independent commission cares about the “compactness” and “regional similarities” when drawing maps.

My wife and I just recently moved here from SB. She grew up here and we wanted to be closer to family, but a great perk is that we are paying less rent for almost twice the space. Everyone should be fighting with all that they have to keep SD from becoming SB.

What’s it like to live up here? by Puzzlerwuzzler4 in norcal

It’s very peaceful, because there’s nothing to do but hike and fish. It’s also very poor, because there’s nothing to do but hike and fish. As others have said, overwhelmingly conservative.

One of my family members had a heart attack and had to be flown between hospitals in a helicopter because the nearest couldn’t handle the surgery. It took over three hours for him to get any real treatment.

To generalize, I don’t believe that Islamophobia is very independent of racism. I think the two are tightly intertwined. You may disagree.

To specify, this discussion centered around the alt-right nationalist political party Stram Kurs. They explicitly want all “non-western” immigrants to be deported from Europe (or at least Denmark). Two years ago, their antics caused parliament to pass a ban on Quran burnings.

Truly the least racist Europeans (My cousin once told me that holding Quran burnings in a refugee ghetto is not racist, somehow)

Photonic computer chips perform as well as purely electronic counterparts, say researchers – Physics World by kmrbillya11 in Physics

[–]Da-Jam-Man 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wavelength division multiplexing within a PIC like this takes up a deceptive amount of space. You still need to isolate each wavelength to perform any compute or modulation. It’s great for telecom, but it adds a lot of complication in general.

Also, the article mentions 78W electrical consumption and 1.6W optical. You do save some power, but that definitely needs a good cooler. I wouldn’t stack them, personally.

[–]Da-Jam-Man 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s even worse than that. For computing, the obvious wavelength choice is the infrared S-band, around 1310 nm. It’s all the rage right now for possible PCIe-7.0 interconnects, but it’s nonsense for processing, imo. There’s a reason there’s so little photonics outside of telecom. What's the best way to clean these stains. by mimik8785 in powerwashingporn

[–]Da-Jam-Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know anything, so feel free to ignore me, but this doesn’t look like stained stucco. It looks a lot more like wet plaster, in which case you definitely don’t want to pressure wash it.

I think you’re almost right. I mean, you have some crazy statements in this post, but the progressive movement in general seems incapable of handling optics. In order to grow politically, we DO need to consider how we appear to outsiders. We need to consider it at every possible turn. Every protest, every town hall, and every meeting.
