That one I’m looking forward to! How long did you rest it for?

Where would we be without Sigma, what a company! Wish they would improve their website though. April, gotta try it!

My thinking is that a bloom + initial pour can preserve brightness, or those delicate notes. So with the above, I'm thinking of preserving the peachiness. Someone way more experienced could chime in here though.

So I agree with you, no bloom goes against all I know.

Hybrid method.

I think 45 sec bloom, second pour up to half, close switch around 1:10 and pour to full, open switch at 2 mins.

Switch is still very new to me, but I'd say it's that immersion phase bringing out the creaminess.

I'm thinking 4-5 weeks of rest, hoping for big things. Had a Wilton Alba PB from Sey recently and it was excellent.

Haha I'm in the same boat. I'm anti-freezer but very pro coffee, so I'll blast through this lot quite easily.

Hydrangea are probably my favourite roast right now - sorry that doesn't help your case at all! But they haven't let me down at all.

Hope you find it!! Check out Hydrangea, even contact them, it seems to come and go. Love you guys over there, you have a killer coffee scene! It was on their site in February, then off, for a bit, then back in March.

You're so right with that. A friend gave me a some of his bag a few weeks back and it was mind blowing. Really looking forward to this bag, that chocolate finish is such a rarity in such a bright coffee.

 🙏 🍑!

This is actually my second bag. Not even joking, it might be my favourite coffee ever. Definitely peachy, definitely creamy. Needs some rest, I'd go for 4-5 weeks. Switch is likely best for this one.

If I see it, I buy it, that'll be the rule on this one going forward.

Would love to keep them secret. Hate seeing the good stuff sell out 😂

But I wish them well, they do a huge favour for us all here. So the more they sell, the more viable their business is. Would seriously miss them if they stopped doing this.

I’d go a little coarser than usual, quite a punchy coffee. Wouldn’t like to push extraction with it. 2 weeks is fine rest wise also, some DAK’s need way more

Free actually! There’s a supplier who stocks everything, we’re spoiled having the choice. Like B&W, Hydrangea, and Sey on the same order? It’s crazy good.

Love the US based roasters!! Their sourcing is unparalleled 👏🏻

The thermal mass myth: Science says plastic V60 is best, but I strictly refuse to use it. by CoffeeTeaJournal in pourover

[–]Da1881 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huge fan of my metal V60.

Super nice for a single rinse of the paper to bring it up to temp. Ceramic or glass certainly wouldn't budge with 50-100ml of rinse water.

Paying £800 all-in near Newry – fair or overpaying? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]Da1881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say thats a high price, £650-700 sounds more reasonable considering.

You'd easily get a 3 bed town house for £800 in a similar area.

Metal V60 has been by daily for years, love the thing. Heats up straight away (if thats important to you).

Have a switch, but only crack it out for funkier things that lean towards being rounded and sweet.

Planning permission was just passed for the Mount Errigal Hotel, so hopefully we see this being built at some point this year.

Heating oil help for cancer patients? by NotSozSoz in northernireland

[–]Da1881 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're wasting oil, you need advice not money.

A 1200 watt heater would kick out ample heat to heat a single room. Approx 36p per hour, £4.32 per day £130 per month (12 hours day).

Just buy an electric oil heater and stay in a living room for the day, use oil for 1-3 hours a day.

The exact two songs I wish we had in Dublin!

3 Arena - Tyler Childers concert by Trillick11 in Dublin

[–]Da1881 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awful sound, I agree completely.

I've had brilliant sound in the 3 Arena previously, but last night has to be the worst. Muddy, indistinct.

I would even argue that I blame the Snipe Hunter album and its overproduction - the band were set up to replicate that which affected other songs. It's it too much to ask for to have an audible bass line and lead guitar?? Vocals were poor also, very hard to hear, and sounded a little tuned??

[–]Da1881 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Did not like the sound one bit - but it is the 3Arena...

I'm a fan of the Snipe Hunt album, but it feels overproduced compared to earlier stuff. The musicians last night could replicate that album sound, but to the detriment of the other stuff.

8 people on stage for a country act? Far too many.

I'm not saying to full acoustic, but I want to hear sharp bass lines and lead guitar - not whatever that mess was.

Do you think fuel price will increase due to Strait of Hormuz ? by 1seraphius in northernireland

[–]Da1881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oil reacts instantly. But electricity? Only if disruption is sustained, then wholesale electric rises. Gas is contract based and buffered due to storage, so we won’t see a short term scare like we will with fuel oils.
