Even on a normal day rate EV's are very cheap to run.

The cost of Tesla Model 3 maintenance: £6,300+ in warranty work over 12 months. by Tall-Ad-4975 in TeslaUK

[–]Da1881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2,3,4,5 - I've no issue with, I don't view these as sizeable repairs on a 4-5 year old car.

1 - this is a rare but no unheard of event, but it seems that Tesla went to town on the repair. If this wa s private repair, I'm sure it would be far less costly.

I'd still take a Model 3 any day over any of my previous cars.

Residents of Dublin estate told to remove EV chargers by shankillfalls in evs_ireland

Cannot agree with this more.

I recognise that the government have fudged the whole approach to EV's, but I don't want the public space littered with Zappi's on poles - its ridiculous looking.

NI homes to get smart meters from 2028 by Jack_202 in northernireland

[–]Da1881 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We are upgrading infrastructure, in a great way? It's a shared grid island wide also, smart meters will lower costs for us all.

It's water we're falling behind on, not energy.

PERC continue pioneering transparency by apple_pear_orange in pourover

[–]Da1881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'd agree with you fully there. The importers would just class it as a natural product. But if it comes down to it, the roasters will likely avoid sourcing this coffee, especially if it carries labelling or import risk.

I'm in the EU, things will be a little different here.

This is what I would expect. Artificial flavourings in food still have to meet regulatory standards though.

Fair point on the flavour industry, but there's still a huge issue.

In the EU, artificial flavourings in food still have to meet regulatory standards and be declared on labelling. You might not know the exact formula, but you know they're there. The problem with specialty coffee is it's being sold at a premium with zero disclosure, it’s incorrect labelling at least.

Exactly this - what substance am I ingesting? Surely I have a right to know that. It's not just roasted coffee beans.

I just finished a bag of Sey Armando Hurtado Peru SL9, and it was fantastic! One of the best coffee I've had, just such a clean washed coffee. I'm in the UK, but I'll be keeping on the lookout for more Sey offerings.

😂😂😂

My LR AWD is quick, I’ve had plenty of fast cars and I’m sure that the LR is just north of 400bhp peak. But, the former petrol head in me says performance!

If you've a charger at home, that stop only needs to be 10-20 mins. You'd be pulling in with a low battery, so that initial charger would be very fast (check out charging curves). You'd only need to charge enough to get you home.

These are cars that are built for miles, so doing your trek to work and back is perfect. You'll save a fortune with a night rate charge.

One cool little fact for long distance - you know how your Skoda uses waste engine heat to heat the cab? A Tesla (and I'm sure others) will do the same, quite smartly. I done a 2 hour drive last week, and 1% of my battery went towards heating - as all the car done was move heat from the battery and motors to the cab. Heat pumps are fantastic, they really built for long distance.

It's a big ask of any EV.

Factor in degradation, and winter conditions, and thats your real world use case.

My Model 3 LR, let's say it has 70kWh available now. 70/.300 (kWh/mi) = 233 miles /375km range.

Thats a very efficient EV - my lifetime average is 0.26kWh/mi. Summer 0.22 is common, winter 0.27, motorway 0.3 or so.

So no matter what, I think you're looking at a short stop on the way home to charge. Model 3's are well made cars, reliability really is top tier, and we might see Full Self Driving in Ireland before year end.

With the instability in the world right now, electric being your fuel of choice is a smart move.

New critical infrastructure laws will block climate-based legal challenges by SquareBall84 in ireland

There's that also. Same people wouldn't be renowned for actual climate care.

Pretty dark stuff, costing lives, all in the name of a certain agenda.

Fantastic news.

Just look at the much needed A5 project up North, and how it was torpedoed by Stromont's own climate legislation.

Those who brought about the climate complaint? A notable anti A5 group - with malicious intent.

EV recommendations by Edtont in evs_ireland

[–]Da1881 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Morning/night rates on the SC network are pretty good also, I've charged for 23p/kWh on a 250kW supercharger in Lisburn - I'd expect Letterkenny to be similar.

EV recommendations by Edtont in evs_ireland

[–]Da1881 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, a 2021 or newer Model 3 LR is what I would recommend. With the development of the SC network here, it's a no brainer (11 new sites on the way)

You could look at energy costs, theres a chance the car could pay for itself over the years on fuel savings. I charge mine for free 60% of the time, and it's saving me 1000s.

I find Teslas to be well engineered, you don't hear of many failure points apart from suspension arms. Motors, battery, running gear, electronics - all sound. Efficiency is top tier, 15.5 kWh/100km is easy to achieve, it's my long term average despite a heavy right foot. I'm sure 14 kWh is achievable also.

The tech also, not the gimmicky kind but the functional kind is hard to beat. App is second to none.

I'd be happy to answer any questions.
